Subject: 2.5m obslog 20220629 (SJD 59760) From: dmbiz@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Thu, 30 Jun 2022 10:46:10 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday June 29, 2022 (SJD 59760) ---- Observing Team ---- Dylan Gatlin Dmitry Bizyaev ---- Observing Plan ---- 1. First priority: observe an RM field, configuring the robots at the observed rotator angle. If for whatever reason this doesn't work, observe the RM field from the queue using the regular current sequence that configures at rotator=190 2,3. Next highest priority is to get dither sequence on design 35994, with third priority dithers on design 36002, both configured at rotator angle 280 4. During second half, please obtain a 900s BOSS exposure on design 112891. 5. While telescope is settling and if conditions don't allow the dithers, observe from the queue. ---- Observing Summary ---- Clear night??? We hope that the data can be reduced using the arc and flat from the previous field in the night. Requested design: 07:21:54 23104-112891-6069 bright_1x1 2x900s 2xAB Notes ----- - Dust accumulated: 7.5K - M2 MIG Axial C indicates ZERO. Please check and replace its battery. - at 03:23Z we attempted to accept ROT foducials and lost MCP as a result, see the log. 12 minutes lost to fix it, restart MCP, and to redo the fvc loop. - we tried to disconnect the two FPI fibers during an exposure on the RM field - it has no APOGEE targets any way. We took an FVC image and ensured that we continue to see the spots of light there. The APOGEE all-sky spectrum 59760 19 05:11 41980019 Object 43 B 13.5 107044-6040 a-b-c 1.94 0,0 has very faint FPI signal. Sorry about it. Due to it, one reason less. - We attempted to look inside the wind baffle and searched for stray light source with a binocular. We see some stray light from El Paso and Holloman coming through, but there is no any obviously suspicious source of light there. - The whole night we saw the stray signal in FVC images and in BOSS spectra. The two spots on the FVC image change their position while the rotator moves. In the morning we turned off jaeger, then turned on and took one more FVC exposure. There is no more stray signal there. Turned on with the GFAs on - still no stray signal. ---- Engineering Issues ---- The secondary's axial C mig is still dead ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: APOGEE cals started BOSS cals taken Mirror numbers in spec, except for axial C which is dead FVC loop done with config 6036 01:25Z Began ventilation Lots of radar in the state, but it might be clearing in the county.
