Perhaps we could try a different logic where instead of "if a priority field is up, observe it ASAP", it could be "if a priority field is crossing the meridian during the night, try to schedule it at minimum airmass". Sometimes in the current schedule due to overheads Kronos usually underestimates, we end up falling behind and getting fields at lower airmass than Kronos recommends, but this doesn't help as much during the first half of the night. scheduling fields early does happen in dark time. Perhaps we could try a different logic where instead of "if a priority field is up, observe it ASAP", it could be "if a priority field is crossing the meridian during the night, try to schedule it at minimum airmass". Sometimes in the current schedule due to overheads Kronos usually underestimates, we end up falling behind and getting fields at lower airmass than Kronos recommends, but this doesn't help as much during the first half of the night. I'm very surprised that issue with apogee S/N wasn't flagged earlier (I guess we're used to APOGEE just doing well?) but it was definitely not correct. That's fixed now. I'm not really concerned about it in bright time, unless you notice a quality issue, but if it happens in dark time I should probably change scheduler logic.
