Subject: 2.5m obslog 20210925 (SJD 59483) From: dmbiz@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Sun, 26 Sep 2021 11:01:24 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 25, 2021 (SJD 59483) ---- Observing Team ---- Karen Kinemuchi Dmitry Bizyaev Jose Sanchez-Gallego (visiting in the evening, discussing changes) ---- Observing Plan ---- Focus sweep w/ altitude test, if weather permits ---- Observing Summary ---- The entire night was lost to the weather. Notes ----- - Jose discussed software changes with us. He continues to work on things, so some more changes are coming. At a glance, new features are: -- we don't have any features in STUI that call the "sop". So, the SOP gui is not functional, neither the motions in the Telescope Controls" script. By the way, all other buttons (axis stop, etc.) are functional. -- Jose has got a list of sop commands that are useful to us, including sop hartmann and sop collimateBoss. Since we need them for tuning the BOSS cameras, running tests, etc, Jose will make them separately. The entire sop actor won't be up anymore. -- So far we run evening and morning calibrations via the "*.inp" scripts. The "morningcals_nodither.inp" and "eveningcals_nodither.inp" can be taken from the observer home directory on the podium laptop. -- getDust and list_ap scripts are updated to their adequate status on the sdss5-hub -- Although APOGEE exposures are being bundled, the software changes lead to the lack of "quickred" images (ap2D-, ap1D- ). They stopped coming two days ago. Jose knows about it. This is now on David Nidever's plate since David is converting the IDL data reduction pipeline to python. -- We tried to wear the G7 device all night long. It is found extremely annoying that even if an observer sits still and read docs or write code, the device is pinging person every two minutes, aloud. It is found very distractive. Karen checked the workability of the G7 around the site, and found that its connection is working in the upper and lower enclosures at the telescope. It loses connection only at the loading deck. ---- Observing Log ---- AFTERNOON CHECKOUT: =================== 23:14Z Cloudy on site. 23:28Z Restarted podium STUI. Was at 9G. 3G were accumulated from this morning to this afternoon. 23:33Z Started APOGEE evening cals. Can't seem to access this morning's APOGEE cal information on either sdss4-hub or sdss5-hub. 23:58Z Grabbed mirror numbers - ok. 01:03Z APOGEE cals done and inspected - ok. FPI cals done. 01:16Z Took ecamera dark and flat. #0017 is at exptime=50s w/ 36K flux. #0018 is at exptime=40s w/ flux=30K. We got a guider error: guider w text="Guider raw exposure has 4028 saturated pixels." 01:15:04 OBSERVER.karen 72 guider e text="Fully saturated! Please reduce exposure time or wait for the excess light to go away." 01:15:04 OBSERVER.karen 72 guider e text="" 01:15:04 OBSERVER.karen 72 guider f guideState="failed"; text="analyzeFlat failed. Error reading/processing guider flat." 01:15:04 CmdDone: OBSERVER.karen 72 guider flat time=50 There was a bright spot on the flat field, and that may have caused the error to trigger. Upon inspection, the flat looks normal and has the same flux level that has been reported earlier. 01:21Z Delaying ventilation and opening due to heavy clouds and nearby radar. No changes for tonight: cloudy sky, and accidental rain. Jose visited us and we discussed software changes that are in progress. 10:45Z called it a night. APOGEE calibrations started. Upon leaving, I checked the mirror numbers again and found that the focus and scale are not reported correctly, and the SETMIR VALUES are shown as zeros. Since it is not required for the weekend, I'll check the tpm status during the afternoon checkout. ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 4 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.0060 0.0080 Axial B: 0.0320 0.0330 Axial C: -0.1150 -0.1140 Trans D: -0.0376 -0.0395 Lateral E: 0.3310 0.3310 Lateral F: 0.5345 0.5335 GALILS Commanded: 12500 -1600 5350 47050 -8800 -8400 Actual: 12500 -1600 5350 47050 -8800 -8400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0 PrimOrient: 0 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 48 Air temp: 11.83 Altitude: 30.000038956303893 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -9.4560 -9.4610 Axial B: -9.4720 -9.4760 Axial C: -9.5020 -9.5050 Trans D: 0.1000 0.0880 GALILS Commanded: 4634800 4631950 4651950 -50 -3450 Actual: 4607243 4607262 4607294 -50 -3450 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 0 SecOrient: 0 ---- Telescope Status ---- Never opened Status at: 10:43Z Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = engCamera Counterweights at: 425 LN2 autofill systems: Disconnected and turned off ---- Software Used ---- Get Versions, 09/25/21, 23:15:59 -- STUI software: STUI : 1.7.13 alerts : 2.1.4 apo : 3.0.0 boss : 6.0.0-alpha.0 -boss.specMec : Offline gcamera : FAILED guider : 4.0.0 hartmann : 2.0.0 hub : 5.0.0a0 mcp : 2.0-7-g8799 -mcp.plc : 34 -mcp.azFiduci : v1_146 -mcp.altFiduc : v1_146 -mcp.rotFiduc : v1_146 platedb : FAILED sop : FAILED tcc : 1.4.0 apogee : not availble apogeecal : not availble apogeeql : v1_7_0dev STUIAdditions : 3.1.7 -- done -- Home Disk Hogs (GB): muna 132.068 eboss 83.1765 manga 66.812 sdss3 27.1813 apogee 17.4802 logging 13.6955 Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/vdd 688G 660G 28G 96% /home 10.25.1.230:/data 21T 14T 6.4T 69% /data Setting up: idlspec2d Flavor: Linux64 Version: v5_7_12 Setting up: |elodie Flavor: Linux64 Version: v1_3 Setting up: |spinspect Flavor: Linux64 Version: trunk Setting up: |specflat Flavor: Linux64 Version: v1_20 Setting up: |speclog Flavor: Linux64 Version: trunk Setting up: |platelist Flavor: Linux64 Version: trunk Setting up: |sdss_python_module Flavor: Linux64 Version: v1_6_7 Setting up: |sqlalchemy Flavor: Linux64 Version: 0.9.7 Setting up: |psycopg2 Flavor: Linux64 Version: 2.5.3 Setting up: |idlutils Flavor: Linux64 Version: v5_5_16 Setting up: |idl Flavor: Linux64 Version: 7.1 Setting up: |dust Flavor: Linux64 Version: v0_1 Setting up: |photolog Flavor: Linux64 Version: trunk Setting up: actorcore Flavor: Linux64 Version: v4_1_6 Setting up: |opscore Flavor: Linux64 Version: v2_5 Setting up: |external Flavor: Linux64 Version: v1_2_0 Setting up: |actorkeys Flavor: Linux64 Version: trunk Setting up: |plc Flavor: Linux64 Version: v30_2 Setting up: |sdsstools Flavor: Linux64 Version: v4_33 Setting up: |sdss3tools Flavor: Linux64 Version: v1_7_13 Setting up: |RO Flavor: Linux64 Version: 3.6.9 -- Other versions ---- idlspec2d : v5_7_12 sdss_python_module: trunk ---- APOGEE Data Summary ---- APOGEE data list, mjd=59483, all raw_data: /data/apogee/utr_cdr/59483/apRaw-*.fits archive: /data/apogee/archive/59483/apR-[a,b,c]-*.apz quickred: /data/apogee/quickred/59483/ap2D-a-*.fits.fz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- mjd i UT File/Exp Imtype Nread A/B Dth Ct-Plate Arch Offset %Flux Comm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 59483 1 23:30 39210001 Dark 3 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 2 23:50 39210002 Dark 60 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 3 23:52 39210003 QuarFlat 10 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - 95 59483 4 23:54 39210004 Arc---- 12 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 5 23:56 39210005 Arc---- 12 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 6 00:03 39210006 Arc---- 40 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 7 00:10 39210007 Arc---- 40 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 8 00:21 39210008 Dark 60 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 9 00:30 39210009 Arc---- 20 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - FPI 59483 10 00:39 39210010 Arc---- 30 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - FPI 59483 11 10:23 39210011 Dark 60 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 12 10:33 39210012 Dark 60 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 13 10:44 39210013 Dark 60 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 14 10:46 39210014 QuarFlat 10 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - 94 59483 15 10:48 39210015 QuarFlat 10 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - 95 59483 16 10:49 39210016 QuarFlat 10 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - 95 59483 17 10:52 39210017 Arc---- 12 A 13.0 ------- a-b-c - - 59483 18 10:57 39210018 Arc---- 40 A 13.0 ------- x-x-x - - --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
