Subject: 2.5m obslog 20210809 (SJD 59436) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Tue, 10 Aug 2021 11:12:23 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday August 09, 2021 (SJD 59436) ---- Observing Team ---- Kaike Pan Audrey Oravetz ---- Observing Plan ---- Pointing model ---- Observing Summary ---- We prepared the telescope for a pointing model by mounting the engineering camera, rebalancing the telescope, homeing/relaxing, talking/taking images with the camera, Built a new set of fiducial tables with data taken this morning, installed them. Performed test slews with new fiducial tables. The plan is to get a new pointing model. The weather prevented us from opening all night. Notes: ====== The telescope seems out of front/back balance slightly. With altitude at 90 deg, engaging an e-stop or taking out the altitude pin would cause the telescope drift and pass 90 degrees 2-4 arc minutes in altitude, to 90:04:xx. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ========== helped JHU team to measure the positions of FSC camera relative to the L3 at various FSC stage angle and rotation angle. The measurement found that the relative height separation between the two elements varies about 250 um or so. This variation does help in explain the data we took in ext couple of nights. We dismount the FSC, put ATF away, mount the engCam and move the counterweight to 400. During the process of mounting the engCam, we found the instrument lift would not go up although The "instrument chnage" is green. Likely due to the "cart in place" is not light up. We had to mount the engCam inthe manual mode. Systems were checked. 02:30Z: started ventilation. 02:30Z: delay ope due to nearby radar. Night: ====== 03:10Z - Homed and relaxed M1 and M2. All position errors were in acceptable range. 03:29Z - Stopped ventilating due to rain and high humidity. 04:35Z - The engineering camera is talking and taking images.
