Subject: 2.5m obslog 20210818 (SJD 59445) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2021 10:03:12 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday August 18, 2021 (SJD 59445) ---- Observing Team ---- Karen Kinemuchi Kaike Pan Ryan Wagner Conor Sayes ---- Observing Plan ---- A new pointing model ---- Observing Summary ---- The night is lost to bad weather, rain, high humidity. Notes: ====== 1. We found that M1 GALIS and MIGs number changed from last night to tonight. Although the mechanical collimation position is the same, setmir numbers (0,0,0,0,0) still corresponds to the GALIS numbers of 8600, -150, 7800, 16050, 8500, 8550.The setmir numbers of the optical collimation position (0, -31.23, -9.35, -511.08, 1708) now has GALIS numbers of 16650, -650, 6250, 43400, -8800, -8400. The corresponing GALIS were 12500 -1600 5300 47050 -8800 -8400 in previous nights. Does M1 position actually shifted? ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ========== we notice that large voltages are required to slew the telescope up and down. Typically, +/- 3000 are neeed to drive the telescope up/down. Today, we see +/- 9000. Could it is due to the front/back, left/right balance problem. We moved the countweight #3 (just below the FVC) down 35 units to compensation the weight of FVC. We homed/relaxed M1 and M2. 02:06Z Home/Relax M1 E, F position errors: (after 2 tries) 0 2 i unknownReplyKey="position error", "999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 000000000, 000000000", "999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 000000000, 000000000 position error" D position errors: (after 3 tries) 0 2 i unknownReplyKey="position error", "999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 000000000, 999999999, 999999999", "999999999, 999999999, 999999999, 000000000, 999999999, 999999999 position error" A, B, C position errors: (in 1 try!) 0 2 i unknownReplyKey="position error", "000000000, 000000050, 000000000, 999999999, 999999999, 999999999", "000000000, 000000050, 000000000, 999999999, 999999999, 999999999 position error" Primary mirror done. We found that the mirror numbers (both MIGS and GALILS) are different from yesterday. We homed/relaxed mirrors twice. No change. Then we called Conor and asked him to check mirror controller. He restarted mirror controller, Nothing changes, then tcc was restarted, nothing changes. We setmir to 0,0,0,0,0, the GALILS numbers are 8600, -150, 7800, 16959, 8500, 8550. Which is at the M1 mechanical collimation position. However, if we setmir to the opctical collimation position: 0.0, -31.23, -9.35, -511.08, 1708.0, GALILS (and MIGs) numbers are different from what they were in previous night. We don't understand what cause this. ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.1470 0.1470 Axial B: -0.0320 -0.0320 Axial C: -0.0440 -0.0440 Trans D: -0.0320 -0.0320 Lateral E: 0.3315 0.3315 Lateral F: 0.5325 0.5325 GALILS Commanded: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 Actual: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -31.23 -9.35 -511.08 1708.0 PrimOrient: 0.0 -31.15 -9.21 -511.43 1706.53 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 14.11 Altitude: 29.999996178438877 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -7.0820 -6.4610 Axial B: -7.1040 -6.4740 Axial C: -7.1350 -6.5060 Trans D: 0.0500 0.0400 GALILS Commanded: 1694873 1692021 1708971 -50 -3450 Actual: 1663479 1663359 1662779 -50 -3450 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 3657.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 42.22 SecOrient: 656.98 0.02 -0.02 -0.01 42.19 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.1470 0.1470 Axial B: -0.0320 -0.0320 Axial C: -0.0430 -0.0440 Trans D: -0.0320 -0.0320 Lateral E: 0.3315 0.3315 Lateral F: 0.5320 0.5325 GALILS Commanded: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 Actual: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -31.23 -9.35 -511.08 1708.0 PrimOrient: 0.0 -31.15 -9.21 -511.43 1706.53 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 14.00 Altitude: 30.000583401858616 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -9.4600 -6.4610 Axial B: -9.4740 -6.4740 Axial C: -9.5050 -6.5060 Trans D: 0.0870 0.0400 GALILS Commanded: 4632050 4627900 4648000 -50 -3450 Actual: 4607098 4607168 4607080 -50 -3450 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 3657.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 42.22 SecOrient: 3656.89 0.02 0.01 0.01 42.67 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.1460 0.1470 Axial B: -0.0250 -0.0320 Axial C: -0.0430 -0.0440 Trans D: -0.0313 -0.0320 Lateral E: 0.3315 0.3315 Lateral F: 0.5335 0.5325 GALILS Commanded: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 Actual: 10650 -650 6250 43400 -8800 -8400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -31.23 -9.35 -511.08 1708.0 PrimOrient: 0.0 -31.15 -9.21 -511.43 1706.53 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 13.61 Altitude: 30.000038956303893 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -9.4600 -6.4610 Axial B: -9.4750 -6.4740 Axial C: -9.5050 -6.5060 Trans D: 0.0940 0.0400 GALILS Commanded: 4633050 4629550 4648550 -50 -3450 Actual: 4607231 4607269 4607313 -50 -3450 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 3657.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 42.22 SecOrient: 3657.02 -0.02 0.01 0.01 42.7 ---- Telescope Status ---- Started ventilation encl25m : open encl25m : closed No interlocks bypassed Status at: Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = engCam Counterweights at: 408, 410, 382m 408.
