Subject: 2.5m obslog 20210213 (SJD 59259) From: doravetz@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Sun, 14 Feb 2021 11:33:20 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday February 13, 2021 (SJD 59259) ---- Observing Team ---- Viktor Malanushenko Dan Oravetz ---- Observing Plan ---- Sat 13 FEB 2021 59259.0 BHM (10.7 h) ---- Observing Summary ---- The night was lost to winter storm weather. For time-tracking purposes, BHM lost 10.7 hr to weather. We performed sixty sequences of slews from stow to ALT=5 and back to stow using the same procedure used on 59257 in an effort to try and reproduce the overshoot of altitude. All slews executed without any overshoot problems tonight. We moved an extra 180L LN2 dewar into the enclosure near the SP1 dewar scale (but far enough away from the azimuth restricted area that slews inside the enclosure could be completed) just as a hedge against the snow so that there'd be plenty of LN2 available in the enclosure in case weather interfered with arrivals, etc. The wind gusts approached 40 mph tonight and there was significant snow blowing through the upper NW section of the enclosure overhead door-area. We turned off the recirculation fan to deaden the air moving in the enclosure in hopes that any snow intrusion would stay as far from the telescope as possible. Night log sent at 11:33Z. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ========= [observer@sdss4-hub ~]$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/vda2 7.7G 6.5G 894M 89% / tmpfs 3.4G 0 3.4G 0% /dev/shm /dev/vda1 194M 133M 52M 73% /boot /dev/vdb 19G 8.8G 9.1G 49% /exports/hub-local /dev/vdd 688G 611G 77G 89% /home /dev/vdc1 11T 11T 727G 94% /data --Test Actors, 23:11:23 - ok -- APOGEE Short Dark - 23:11:48 - ok -- 23:22:47 APOGEE evening cals started sop doBossCalibs nbias=1 ndark=1 darktime=20 -- ok guider dark stack=9 time=15 -- ok sop collimateBoss 23:35:15 Hartmann collimate output on cart #2 sp1: offset: r= 329 (In Focus); b= -7.3 (Out of focus) sp1: pred. move: spAverageMove= 1321 sp1: pred. resid: r= -992, b= -3.1, txt= OK, spTemp = 5.1 BOSS collimation was checked with cart 2. Night: ====== We will not be opening due to inclement weather. We completed sixty sequences of slews from stow to ALT=5 and then back to stow. We used the same procedure used the other night when an ALT overshoot had been experienced - slew to stow, 'axis stop' gets issued before grabbing the semaphore with the MCP, grab the semaphore with 'SEM TAKE', then move to 5 using the 'Move' button in the new GUI. All slews executed without any problems. The semaphore controls all behaved normally, too. I.e., if we tried to do something that required the MCP to have the semaphore, then an error message was produced complaining about the semaphore which is what should happen. E.g., 'ALT MOVE' without semaphore does complain: 03:53:07 > ALT MOVE 03:53:07 ALT MOVE 03:54:06 < ok 2021-02-14 03:54:06.182 altitude tlatch_off 2021-02-14 03:54:06.184 altitude move frame break 2021-02-14 03:54:06.184 altitude stp_frame We also saw the same "frame break" and "stp_frame" commands in the MCP log when 'tcc axis stop' was issued. 11:28Z - Called it a night. SP1 completed a primary and secondary fill about an hour ago.
