Subject: 2.5m obslog 20211202 (SJD 59551) From: dgatlin@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Fri, 3 Dec 2021 11:48:10 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday December 02, 2021 (SJD 59551) ---- Observing Team ---- Audrey Oravetz Dylan Gatlin Richard Pogge Conor Sayres José Sánchez-Gallego ---- Observing Plan ---- FPS Commissioning ---- Observing Summary ---- Tonight, we had our first light with the FPS. We were open all night with great weather. We spent most of the night doing focus sweeps and dithered tracking tests that will be useful for writing the FPS' guiding loop. Notes: - Grafana is unable to keep up with too many users at once (~10) - We tested the gang connector in the FPS. It looks and feels like it used to. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ========== Mirror numbers are collected with the FSC instrument block, not spectro. Since we do not anticipate using the spectro instrument block going forward, it makes sense to use the FSC or the new FPS one instead for mirror numbers. Started APOGEE evening cals (dithering) and FPI cals. 23:25Z - Started ventilating. 00:22Z - Full walk around of the lower and upper enclosure. Test slews, and then we opened the enclosure to partly cloudy skies. Night: ========== 01:32Z We had most or all observers on a Zoom call, as well as several people in the control room, and it looks like that overloaded the Grafana server's cpus. 01:45Z Slewed to RA=22h Dec=25d With instrument block spectro, we did a focus sweep and found best focus to be close to 600. We found quite a few stars with 10s exposures. After a bit of work, it became clear that we need a better FWHM algorithm on hand, but we could get some decent focus by eye with a focus sweep. Restarted the optidew and humid processes in the TPM The pixelscale should be 2.214"/pix for the gfas We were able to test Boson on-sky with the gfas, and the gfa gui works well. Rick fully analyzed a focus sweep and found that gfa 3 was out of plane from the rest of the gfas. Rick suspects this is because of a mixup from back at OSU and may mean that some metrology calibrations were taken with the 4mm filters on the gfas, when it should have been 5mm filters instead. Conor wrote a script to give us random dither point to scan through with the gfas. The info Conor needs is in the fits headers, so all we need to report here is the image windows where they occurred. Field #1 RA=6, Dec=42 Img 81 - 266 for gfa != 5, 1 Img 96 - 281 for gfa 5 We will do a full focus sweep to characterize the focus offset of gfa 3 Exp # Focus 269/284 250 270/285 275 271/286 300 272/287 325 273/288 350 274/289 375 275/290 400 276/291 425 277/292 450 278/293 475 279/294 500 280/295 525 For our second field for Conor's script, we were at RA=7h, Dec=42d Img 281 - 466 for gfa != 5, 1 Img 296 - 481 for gfa 5 For our third field with Conor's scipt, we were at RA=9h, Dec=42d Img 468 - 653 for gfa != 5, 1 Img 485 - 670 for gfa 5 11:33Z Turned off the ieb power 11:40:17 encl25m : closed; ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0.0060 0.0080 Axial B: 0.0070 0.0070 Axial C: -0.1210 -0.1230 Trans D: -0.0340 -0.0358 Lateral E: 0.3315 0.3315 Lateral F: 0.5345 0.5340 GALILS Commanded: 12500 -1600 5300 47050 -8800 -8400 Actual: 12500 -1600 5300 47050 -8800 -8400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -59.5 -9.15 -512.0 1906.3 PrimOrient: 1.07 -59.51 -9.21 -512.13 1906.31 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 5.39 Altitude: 30.0 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -9.6540 -9.4520 Axial B: -9.6650 -9.4620 Axial C: -9.6980 -9.4990 Trans D: 0.1160 0.0910 GALILS Commanded: 4883900 4878300 4896700 0 -3400 Actual: 4859211 4859249 4859148 0 -3400 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 3857.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 42.22 SecOrient: 3856.99 0.03 -0.01 -0.0 41.62 ---- Telescope Status ---- 23:23Z Started ventilation 00:17:17 encl25m : open; 11:40:17 encl25m : closed; No interlocks bypassed Status at: 1:47:25Z Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, -0.0 mount Instrument mounted: ECam Counterweights at: 684.8, 686.5, 704.3, 703.6 LN2 autofill systems: Connected and turned on 180L LN2 dewar scale: SP1 162.0 lbs, 22.0 psi ---- Software Used ---- Get Versions, 12/02/21, 22:42:37 -- STUI software: STUI : 1.7.13 alerts : 2.1.6 apo : FAILED boss : 6.0.1-alpha.0 -boss.specMec : 3.0.4 guider : 4.0.0 ecamera : FAILED fliswarm : FAILED hartmann : FAILED hub : 5.0.0a0 mcp : 2.1 -mcp.plc : 34 -mcp.azFiduci : v1_148 -mcp.altFiduc : v1_148 -mcp.rotFiduc : v1_148 sop : 0.1.0-alpha.0 tcc : 1.4.0 apogee : not availble apogeecal : not availble apogeeql : v1_7_0dev STUIAdditions : 3.1.9 -- done -- --------------Other Versions-------------- sdss-obstools : 3.7.6 TPM : 1.2-31-gd7eb MCP : 2.1 idlspec2d : v6_0_2
