Subject: 2.5m obslog 20190902 (SJD 58729) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2019 12:50:34 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday September 02, 2019 (SJD 58729) ---- Observing Team ---- Kaike Pan Viktor Malanushenko ---- Observing Plan ---- Optical collimation, instrument block, and pointing model. ---- Observing Summary ---- The sky is mostly clear with variable seeing 1.2-2.0", not idea for optical collimation. We completed the optical collimation and updated the engineering instrument block. The x and y tilts for the best donuts are 22.0 and -4.0, which translated to a new M1 position of 0.0, -11.37, 6.87, 357.47, and 621.12. We edited the tcc default.dat file, and restarted tcc to make the new position effective. Notes: 1. Occasionally, Rotator and Azimuth (?) motions make high frequency sounds. 2. We saw star images be strips for a couple of images when the telescope are tracking, indicates some tracking performance issues. For axis position plots, looks like some issues at 2:49 to 2:51 on Azimuth, 2:47 to 2:49 on the rotator. 3. STUI MCP still does not report FFS status correctly. When the status changes, the "opened/closed" button can change correctly, but all individual petals will have "invalid" as their status. As soon as another "mcp ffs.open/close" is issued, they will show correct status. mcpMenu works correctly. 4. When the telescope at 90:00, "an axis init" results the altitude go to 90:30. When slew to 90:00, it stop at 90:00. However, if a stop button is engaged before altitude brake is set, the altitude will go to 90:30 too. 5: SP1 vacuum at 1.4e-7, SP2 at 1.8e-6 at 7:00 AM. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon --------- Home & Relax Mirror -- homing & relaxing M1 at 01:10:21 -- take dark to ecam -- homing & relaxing M2 at 01:57:31 01:25:56 encl25m : open; 01:25:56 encl25m : start ventilation Strange position error on Az between 2:48Z - 2:51Z; Rot: 2:47 - 2:48Z Optical Collimation. We have variable seeing from 1.2 to 2.0", which makes the collimation difficult. The telescope tracking also experienced some jiggers that add more challenges to the optical collimation process. Any way, we do our best. Starting M1 position: 0,3.27,2.10,115.0,-178.65. Best focus: -150, frm: 145. The system suffers astigmatism as showed by frames 147 (+50) and 149 (-50). Best donuts for foc=150: frame 183 with x,y tilt of 22.0 and 0. Best donuts for foc=-450: frame 186 with x,y tilt of 22.0 and 0. Checked with a different star. The best focus is -130. frames 195-196 and 197-198 are donuts with the original M1 position for foc=-430 and 170. the best donuts for fov=170 are frames 199-200 with tilts of 22 and 0. the best donuts for foc=-430 are frames 202-203 with tilts of 22 and 0. We found tilts of x and y are 22 and 0 for the center position. For the 1 degree off the axis, we worked on rot=0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees. at 1 degree, the system suffer worse astigmatism than at the axis. 0 degrees: the best focus is -170. Donuts for foc=-470 and 130 are: 213-214 and 215 and 216 with the original M1 position. The best donuts for foc=130 is frame 221, the corresponding tilts are 20 and 0. The best donuts for foc=-470 is frame 226, the corresponding tilts are 18 and 0. 90 degrees: the best focus is -170. Donuts for foc=-470 and 130 are: 227 and 244 with the original M1 position. The best donuts for foc=130 is frame 251, the corresponding tilts are 15 and -5. The best donuts for foc=-470 is frame 242, the corresponding tilts are 18 and -15. 180 degrees: the best focus is -130. Donuts for foc=-430 and 170 are: 287 and 267 with the original M1 position. The best donuts for foc=130 is frame 285, the corresponding tilts are 20 and 0. The best donuts for foc=-470 is frame 292-293, the corresponding tilts are 25 and -10. 180 degrees: the best focus is -200. Donuts for foc=-500 and 100 are: 313 and 315 with the original M1 position. The best donuts for foc=-500 is frame 324, the corresponding tilts are 18 and -15. The best donuts for foc=100 is frame 334-335, the corresponding tilts are 25 and -20. The average tilts at 1 degree are 21, -8. The mean tilts for the center and 1 degree are 22, -4.0. Translated the new tilts and got the new M1 position: 0, -11.37, 6.87, 375.47, 621.12. Edited the default.dat for tcc, restarted tcc to read in the new M1 position. Relax the M1. Checked with donuts. The donuts with the translated M1 position are slightly worse than before the translation, but better than the original M1 position. Donuts with original M1 position: 356-357 for foc=-460, and 361-362 for foc=140. Donuts with the new position: 358-360 for foc=-460, and 363-364 for foc=140. Now we start the updating the engineering camera instrument block process. the grid data give new image scale and rot_inst+ang: -16802.9, 16748.5 (from -16704.9 and 16650.9), and -89.88 (from -89.96). ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -5.259 -5.261 Axial B: -5.095 -5.086 Axial C: -5.295 -5.29 Trans D: 0.243 0.244 Lateral E: 9.0805 9.0805 Lateral F: 14.1224 14.224 GALILS Commanded: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 Actual: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 3.27 2.1 115.0 -178.65 PrimOrient: -1.06 3.29 2.19 115.07 -177.78 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 15.2 Altitude: 30.0 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -6.455 -6.469 Axial B: 0 0 Axial C: 0 0 Trans D: 0 0 GALILS Commanded: 806750 849450 827650 -7300 -6550 Actual: 806744 849251 827790 -7300 -6550 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 657.0 2.7 12.75 -38.35 156.51 SecOrient: 657.05 2.61 12.75 -38.78 156.63 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -5.336 -5.261 Axial B: -5.05 -5.086 Axial C: -5.274 -5.29 Trans D: -0.574 0.244 Lateral E: 9.3345 9.0805 Lateral F: 14.4399 14.224 GALILS Commanded: 11200 -1850 6850 29650 21250 21050 Actual: 11200 -1850 6850 29650 21250 21050 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -11.37 6.87 375.47 621.12 PrimOrient: 0.0 -11.4 6.58 375.38 620.77 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 14.5 Altitude: 30.0 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -6.653 -6.469 Axial B: 0 0 Axial C: 0 0 Trans D: 0 0 GALILS Commanded: 1058600 1101450 1079550 -7250 -6550 Actual: 1058630 1101408 1079587 -7250 -6550 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 857.0 2.7 12.75 -38.35 156.51 SecOrient: 856.99 2.72 12.82 -38.38 156.71 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -5.336 -5.261 Axial B: -5.05 -5.086 Axial C: -5.274 -5.29 Trans D: -0.574 0.244 Lateral E: 9.3345 9.0805 Lateral F: 14.4399 14.224 GALILS Commanded: 11200 -1850 6850 29650 21250 21050 Actual: 11200 -1850 6850 29650 21250 21050 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -11.37 6.87 375.47 621.12 PrimOrient: 0.0 -11.4 6.58 375.38 620.77 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 14.5 Altitude: 30.0 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -6.653 -6.469 Axial B: 0 0 Axial C: 0 0 Trans D: 0 0 GALILS Commanded: 1058750 1101350 1079600 -7250 -6550 Actual: 1058743 1101408 1079543 -7250 -6550 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 857.0 2.7 12.75 -38.35 156.51 SecOrient: 856.96 2.66 12.75 -38.42 156.75 ---- Telescope Status ---- 01:25:56 Started ventilation 01:25:56 encl25m : open encl25m : closed No interlocks bypassed Status at: Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = Counterweights at: LN2 autofill systems: Connected and turned on 180L LN2 dewar scales: SP1 lbs, psi SP2 lbs, psi ---- Software Used ---- Get Versions, 09/03/19, 00:10:22 -- STUI software: STUI : 1.7.8 alerts : trunk apo : trunk boss : v4_0 -boss.specMec : 3.0.4 gcamera : v2_2 guider : 3.8.1 hartmann : 1.6.0 hub : Tag: v4.2 mcp : Linux -mcp.plc : 34 -mcp.azFiduci : v1_140 -mcp.altFiduc : v1_140 -mcp.rotFiduc : v1_140 platedb : 2.8.0 sop : 3.12.3 tcc : 1.3.1 apogee : not availble apogeecal : not availble apogeeql : v1_6_1 APO-local : not availble -- Other versions ---- idlspec2d : v5_7_12 plate-mapper3 : NOCVS:v6_0_12 petunia : git autoscheduler : git sdss_python_module: trunk mangadrp : trunk exported
