Subject: 2.5m obslog 20190831 (SJD 58727) From: asimmons@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Sun, 1 Sep 2019 12:00:32 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 31, 2019 (SJD 58727) ---- Observing Team ---- Elena Malanushenko Audrey Oravetz Kaike Pan ---- Observing Plan ---- Optical collimation ---- Observing Summary ---- We opened for about 45 minutes at the beginning of the night, and was able to complete some slew/tracking tests. We also gathered images with the engineering camera centered around our standard az/alt of 60,55. This tracking data can be compared with the tracking data taken on the night of our last pointing model before summer shutdown (MJD 58652.0). We reopened at 05:30Z and worked on optical collimation the rest of the night. Notes: ====== - The cone fan does not seem to be coming on. - An email was sent to Jeff. The STUI MCP window is reporting the status of the FF petals not always correctly. - Engineering camera will need cleaned internally. The flat gimg-0015.fits within /data/ecam/58727 shows how dirty it is (guider image #60). - Please check images gimg-0205.fits and gimg 0206.fits. We saw strange behavior (like an oscillating motion) when we were exposing during a focus sweep. Each exposure was 1.0 second long. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon ========= Tested actors, all ok. Eng camera is mounted. There is nearby storm, and James Parker is working with sp1. 03:25Z - Opened enclosure. Started ventilating. 03:34Z - Slew to a star nearest az 60, alt 55. No oscillations were seen during tracking. We took many engineering camera images, flats, darks. STUI MCP was reporting an incorrect position of the FF petals, which complicated things slightly. We needed to issue manual commands to get around this. Before closing, we slewed the telescope to many positions in order to help gather some tracking data. 04:21Z - We closed due to a storm approaching from the north. We remained ventilating though. 05:42Z - Opened enclosure. Clear skies for now. Slewed to fk5 star near Alt=60, Az=100. Seeing ~1.5" based on best-focus obtained on engCam (-150). Best focus = -150 um at the beginning. Initial Prim Orient = -1.06, 3.29, 2.19, 115.07, -177.78 /data/ecam/58727/ on-axis ======= Img #39 -- best focus (-100), seeing 1.5" Img #42 -- +400 focus, old orientation Img #67 -- +400 focus, x=+6", y=+10" We arrived at x=+6", y=+10" as the best for +ve focus on-axis. Refocused. Seeing 1.2". Img #72. We arrived at x=+9", y=+1" as the best for -ve focus on-axis though we observed it through clouds. Confirmed that the dirt on the engineering camera is affecting some of the doughnuts. We offset the telescope slightly in order to avoid the dusty region on the chip. Img #78 -- -400 focus, old orientation Img #92 -- -400 focus, x=+9", y=+1" Slewed to another star, alt 55, az 0 since we were at 87 degrees altitude. Unfortunately, the rotator angle has changed. This star is top heavy, even with the best tilts we determined before. We still have some clouds in the area. Img #113, -- -400 focus, (but new star), x=+13", y=+1" Img #115, -- +400 focus, (but new star), x=+12", y=+1" The best tilts are roughly x=+12, y=+1 for center position. We can continue to test our tilts tomorrow. We did not change the mirror numbers yet. We ran out of time. 12:00Z - Closed telescope and stopped ventilating. ---- Mirror Numbers ---- Before collimation: PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -5.262 -5.316 Axial B: -5.086 -5.074 Axial C: -5.29 -5.334 Trans D: 0.241 10.739 Lateral E: 9.0805 9.0805 Lateral F: 14.2113 14.2113 GALILS Commanded: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 Actual: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 3.27 2.1 115.0 -178.65 PrimOrient: -1.06 3.29 2.19 115.07 -177.78 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 16.5 Altitude: 29.5 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -6.468 -0.907 Axial B: 0 -0.909 Axial C: 0 -0.299 Trans D: 0 -0.104 GALILS Commanded: 806800 849300 827700 -7300 -6550 Actual: 806769 849194 827702 -7300 -6550 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 657.0 2.7 12.75 -38.35 156.51 SecOrient: 656.93 2.64 12.68 -38.82 156.61 PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -5.259 -5.261 Axial B: -5.09 -5.086 Axial C: -5.295 -5.29 Trans D: 0.246 0.244 Lateral E: 9.0932 9.0805 Lateral F: 14.224 14.224 GALILS Commanded: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 Actual: 10250 -1100 7100 16850 12400 12400 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 3.27 2.1 115.0 -178.65 PrimOrient: -1.06 3.29 2.19 115.07 -177.78 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: 13.6 Altitude: 29.6 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -6.469 -6.469 Axial B: 0 0 Axial C: 0 0 Trans D: 0 0 GALILS Commanded: 806850 849500 827650 -7300 -6550 Actual: 806820 849478 827846 -7300 -6550 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 657.0 2.7 12.75 -38.35 156.51 SecOrient: 657.08 2.63 12.76 -38.77 156.61 ---- Telescope Status ---- Status at: 11:54Z Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = engcam Counterweights at: 210 ---- Software Used ---- Get Versions, 09/01/19, 05:31:08 -- STUI software: STUI : 1.7.8 alerts : trunk apo : trunk boss : v4_0 -boss.specMec : 3.0.4 gcamera : v2_2 guider : 3.8.1 hartmann : 1.6.0 hub : Tag: v4.2 mcp : Linux -mcp.plc : 34 -mcp.azFiduci : v1_140 -mcp.altFiduc : v1_140 -mcp.rotFiduc : v1_140 platedb : 2.8.0 sop : 3.12.3 tcc : 1.3.1 apogee : not availble apogeecal : not availble apogeeql : v1_6_1 APO-local : trunk -- done -- [observer@sdss4-hub ~]$ spVersion -- Other versions ---- idlspec2d : v5_7_12 plate-mapper3 : NOCVS:v6_0_12 petunia : git autoscheduler : git sdss_python_module: trunk mangadrp : trunk exported
