Subject: 2.5m obslog 20190819 (SJD 58715) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Tue, 20 Aug 2019 10:18:46 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday August 19, 2019 (SJD 58715) ---- Observing Team ---- Kaike Pan Dmitry Bizyaev (stopped by to check where we are). ---- Observing Summary ---- We had some rain drops in the first couple of hours. Then clouds with nearby radar. Planned to checkout software, setup BOSS spectrographs, the Sp1 daq issue stops the setup work. 1. Jeff and Conor are working on tcc and MCP. Other software are running fine. MCP outputs lots of message about semaphore and axis status. 2. SP2 collimator was successfully homed and zeroed. However, Piston b on SP1 doesn't respond to move command while a and c move just fine. 3. Setup BOSS spectro. SP2 seems ok, but SP1 has two issues. 1). B1 temperature was reported at -75.8C or -76.2C. The heater voltage is 9.4 v, higher than the normal value of 7.5 v. Restarting bossICC and iack make no differences. Voltages on SP1 chase are checked and confirmed fine. Auto fill works fine. 2). SP1 daq is not there. Tried several things with no luck. I notice that SP1 daq cable was plugged in to the west Ethernet switch. It was on the East switch last year. The west switch was used for the guider camera and engineering camera. I vaguely recall that the daq ethernet switch and the guider switch was not interchangeable. 4. gcamera: could not connect to gcmaera. Tried reset cable, power cycle the Ethernet switch and the camera several times, restart gcameraICC, None of them works. The guider camera has power, the Ethernet cable has green lights on both ends: the Ethernet switch and the camera. I suggest to log in to switch tomorrow to see if it is accessible. 5. The hgcd lamps are found being on all time and cannot be controlled by the MCP menu. Tagging the on/off switch on the MCP menu have more affect on them. ---- Observing Log ---- I tried a couple of things. But not much luck tonight. 0. Checked software, all actors seems work except for mcp and tcc on which Conor and Jeff are working on. 1. Home BOSS spectro collimators. SP2 was done successfully. Piston b on SP1 doesn't respond to move command while a and c move just fine. 2. Setup BOSS spectro. SP2 seems ok, but SP1 has two issues. B1 temperature was reported at -75.8C or -76.2C. SP1 daq was not there. Restart BOSS-icc, reset cable, reset daq on the sadbag didn't make any difference. I do notice that SP1 daq was plugged in to the west Ethernet switch. It was on the East switch last year. The west switch was used for the guider camera and engineering camera. I recall that daq ethernet switch and guider switch was not switchable. So, I suggest to plug the SP1 daq cable to the east switch tomorrow (need to undo the cable routine in the rotator wrapper to reach the east switch). 3. gcamera: could not connect to gcmaera. Tried reset cable, power cycle the Ethernet switch and the camera several times, restart gcameraICC, None of them work. When tried "gcmaera reconnect" command, got the following message. 05:39:16 .gcamera 0 gcamera w text="BAD THING: could not connect to camera: Alta camera connection is down" 05:39:16 .gcamera 0 gcamera w text="BAD THING: failed to connect to camera! Try 'gcamera reconnect', I suppose. Alta camera connection is down" 05:39:16 OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera i version="v2_2" 05:39:16 OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera i stack=1 05:39:16 OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera w cameraConnected=False 05:39:16 OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera i simulating=Off,None,1 05:39:16 OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera : 05:39:16 CmdDone: OBSERVER.kpan 159 gcamera reconnect The guider camera has power, the Ethernet cable has green lights on both ends: the Ethernet switch and the camera. Looks like it is fine. I suggest that try to log in to switch tomorrow to see if it is accessible. 4. The hgcd lamps are found being on and cannot be controlled by the MCP menu. Tagging the on/off switch on the MCP menu have more affect on them.
