Subject: 2.5m obslog 20151213 (SJD 57370) From: asimmons@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Mon, 14 Dec 2015 11:53:48 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday December 13, 2015 (SJD 57370) ---- Observing Team ---- Katie Grabowski Audrey Oravetz Elena Malanushenko (afternoon checkout) Anne-Marie Weijmans (MaNGA observer) ---- Observing Summary ---- The night was lost (6.4hrs to eBOSS and 5.2hrs to MaNGA) due to blowing snow and falling snow/ice chucks off of the enclosure roof. Notes to engineers: ==================== Mirror numbers for M2 are all zeros. According to the MCP, the position of the telescope is at 46 degrees when the telescope is actually parked at stow (30 degrees). ---- Observing Plan ---- Sun 13 DEC 2015 57370.0 0.06 01:11 12:45 23:38 11:13 ---- eBOSS until 07:33 ( 6.4 h), then MaNGA ( 5.2 h) ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: --------- Hardware, software, actors, plates, guider checked. Collimation with cart 10. Two nights ago the collimation was at the border line for adjustment. Last night we did not open. Based on last night log and discussion, we can leave them at the same stage. Cart 10 was mounted and it is the first cart for observations tonight. Telescope has been checked. We cannot read rotator fiducials. Apogee complained about disc space. Removed snow from west balcony. Restarted STUI with b3 version. 23:25Z ventilation Night ------- 00:00Z - Did not open at sunset due to blowing snow, snow on the roof, and ice along the rails and in front of the telescope. The cloud camera was opened and it showed clear skies. We can hope the wind dies down and changes direction enough for us to open. Checked several times during the night. The wind gusts did not get below 15mph, and there was lots of blowing snow, as verified by the cloud camera and the patio right outside the control building. There was also evidence of snow and ice falling off of the enclosure during the wind gusts. 11:52Z - I'm sorry. We just cannot safely observe tonight even though the skies are beautifully clear. We turned everything off and started the cals. ---- Telescope Status ---- No interlocks bypassed Status at: 11:29Z Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = 10 Counterweights at: 440 LN2 autofill systems: Connected and turned on -180L LN2 dewar scales: SP1 237.8 lbs, 18.6 psi SP2 209.8 lbs, 15.8 psi ---- Software Used ---- Get Versions, 12/13/15, 22:38:20 -- STUI software: STUI : 1.7.1b3 alerts : trunk+svn149374 apo : trunk+svn158476M boss : v4_0 -boss.specMec : 3.0.4 gcamera : v2_1 guider : v3_3 hartmann : v1_4_3 hub : Tag: sdss4_v3_0 mcp : v6_6_18 -mcp.plc : 31 -mcp.azFiduci : v1_119 -mcp.altFiduc : v1_119 -mcp.rotFiduc : v1_119 platedb : v2_3 sop : v3_4 tcc : 1.2.2 apogee : not availble apogeecal : not availble apogeeql : v1_6_1 APO-local : trunk -- Other versions ---- idlspec2d : v5_7_12 plate-mapper3 : NOCVS:v6_0_7 petunia : v2_6_2 autoscheduler : trunk sdss_python_module: v2_4 mangadrp : trunk exported ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000; MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -0.128 -0.126 Axial B: 0.108 0.109 Axial C: -0.033 -0.031 Trans D: -1.353 -1.358 Lateral E: 10.9855 10.9728 Lateral F: 12.6111 12.6111 GALILS Commanded: 11500 -1200 5850 19600 24150 23900 Actual: 11500 -1200 5850 19600 24150 23900 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.0 -24.21 6.52 356.1 1323.0 PrimOrient: 0.0 -24.31 6.14 356.65 1322.6 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.0000 Air temp: -3.0 Altitude: 29.7 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 0 -0.734 Axial B: 0 -0.736 Axial C: 0 -0.733 Trans D: 0 0 GALILS Commanded: 1613350 1567750 1570100 -1700 -8150 Actual: 1613356 1567769 1570049 -1700 -8150 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 1257.0 4.35 -15.05 25.0 111.05 SecOrient: 1257.01 4.33 -15.06 25.26 111.23
