Subject: 2.5m obslog 20140816 (MJD 56886) From: kpan@apo.nmsu.edu Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2014 03:56:16 +0000 (UTC) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 16, 2014 (MJD 56886) ---- Observing Team ---- Kaike Pan ---- Observing Plan ---- Checkout BOSS spectro ---- Observing Summary ---- SP2 collimator was homed and zeroed at the lower limit. SP1 actuator A and B don't move in either direction. I will continue the checkout if they are fixed tomorrow. Database is not ready yet: loadCartridge doesn't work at this point, John P. is working on it, and planing to get it work by tomorrow. ---- Observing Log ---- Checkout BOSS spectro ===================== Check bias and dark: Bias: 182279 90 sec dark: 182280 Visual check on bias: bias level frame 181826 on mjd 56841 (before the shutdown) vs. frame: 182279: B1: 181826: ~2170, 2300, 2205, 2135 vs. 182279: ~ 2165, 2296, 2205, 2128 R1: 181826:~ 2474, 2760, 2420, 2668 vs. 182279: ~ 2430, 2700, 2377, 2600 B2: 181826: ~2000, 2095, 2133, 2090 vs.182279: ~ 1995, 2090, 2130, 2085 R2: 181826: ~2681, 2455, 2603, 2443 vs.182279: ~ 2675, 2445, 2595, 2440 R2 Hot column at column 570 became narrower, from 10 columns to 5 columns. R2 hot column at 4240 almost disappeared. Home collimator: 02:54:13 APO.kpan 30 boss i text="remaining move: [1000, 1000, 0]" 02:54:13 APO.kpan 30 boss w text="stopped a move -- too many tries. requested=1000 moved=0 " 02:54:13 APO.kpan 30 boss w text="stopped b move -- too many tries. requested=1000 moved=0 " Looks like that actuator A and B on SP1 are not communicating or powered up, they would not move in either direction. Took a set of flat and arc, they look fine although I could not focus SP1 because collimator actuator A and B could not be moved.
