From: Dan Long Subject: FF Screens last night Date: Tue, 20 May 2014 07:53:41 -0600 Hi all, Last night, shortly after opening, Howard and Patrick discovered the = main fuse blown in the FF controller. The fuse would blow immediately = upon replacing it. They traced the short to the 4:30-6:00 petal pair. =20= James came in around 10:30 PM and found the motor for that pair was = bad and replaced it. Unfortunately the motor stop switch for the open = position was also bad (letting the motor continue to run when fully = open). The observers tried to run with that one section open and = disabled, but found that it was not possible to operate the FF screens = even when directly commanding them from the mcp if a set is disconnected = from the controller. Note that the manual pendant disables telescope = motion when plugged in so is not an option here. =20 About 1:00 AM, I got another call. At this point I went to the site = to replace the switch. Howard and Patrick, while I was driving to the = site, looked at the switches to determine which was bad. They found the = offending switch and discovered that the switch effectively has a built = in spare. By moving the wire on the side with a pair of contacts to the = other switch and the wire on the side with the four contacts to the = other NC terminal they got a working switch. So when I got to the site they were observing. This is how the = system was left for the remainder of the night. The switch will be = replaced today. -Dan
