John P. fixed some bugs in SOP. We left the Lindy cart in the enclosure with cartridge 11 on it because it was too icy to warrant putting it back in the bay, especially since we'll need it for tomorrow (including afternoon checkout) anyway. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon ========= Checked STUI actors; checked mirror numbers; checked upper and lower telescope enclosure; checked fiducials; cleaned APOGEE gang connector and took APOGEE evening cals; verified APOGEE archiving; took guider dark sequence. Focused BOSS spectrographs using cartridge 11 according to Observing Plan: Median spectrographs temperatures: Tsp1=7.7, Tsp2=6.9 Outside air temperature=8.3 Adjusted b1 by +3 degrees and then the 'Collimate' output was reporting proper remaining ring movements for blue cameras according to Observing Plan. COLLIMATE: Camera b1 appears to be IN-FOCUS (|mean| < 0.15 pix) COLLIMATE: Predict blue camera ring movement of -1.2 degrees for spectro-1 COLLIMATE: Camera b2 appears to be IN-FOCUS (|mean| < 0.15 pix) COLLIMATE: Predict blue camera ring movement of 2.5 degrees for spectro-2 COLLIMATE: Camera r1 appears to be IN-FOCUS (|mean| < 0.15 pix) COLLIMATE: Predict (red) piston movement of -170 steps for spectro-1 COLLIMATE: Camera r2 appears to be IN-FOCUS (|mean| < 0.15 pix) COLLIMATE: Predict (red) piston movement of -341 steps for spectro-2 Mounted cartridge 2 and took cals. See Miscellaneous section for description of the MaNGA afternoon calibration sequence. Ventilation delayed because of precipitation and high humidity. Night ===== Did not open at sunset because of intermittent precipitation, clouds, and high humidity. We never opened because of uncooperative weather. 11:00Z - Called it a night. Started APOGEE morning calibration sequence and BOSS biases and dark. Ran APOGEE autoscheduler. ---- Telescope Status ---- Status at: 11:06Z Telescope stowed at: 121.0, 30.0, 0.0 mount Instrument mounted: cartridge = 2 Counterweights at: 452 450 451 456 LN2 autofill systems: Connected and turned on 180L LN2 dewar scales: SP1 229.10 lbs, 21.43 psi SP2 200.30 lbs, 22.04 psi Lindy cart is in enclosure with cartridge 11 staged. ---- Software Used ---- ---- STUI software ---- STUI: 1.3 2013-09-05 alerts: v1_3_0 apo: v1_10 boss: v2_5_16 boss.daq: 1.3.2 boss.specMech: 3.0.4 gcamera: v1_3_7 guider: v1_6_3 hub: Tag: sdss3_v1_2_0 mcp: v6_6_18 mcp.plc: 29 mcp.azFiducialVersion: v1_111 mcp.altFiducialVersion: v1_111 mcp.rotFiducialVersion: v1_111 platedb: v1_1_0 sop: v1_3_2 sos: v1_2_0 sos.idlspec2d: v5_6_9 tcc: 2.14.0 apogee: -not availble- apogeecal: -not availble- apogeeql: v1_5_3 ----Other software ---- sdssProcedure(sdss3): v3_06 APO-local scripts : trunk ---- Other versions ---- idlspec2d (sos3) --- v5_6_9 plate-mapper3 ------ NOCVS:v5_0_14a ---- Versions for MaNGA observing ---- STUI: 1.3.1b4 2014-02-25 boss: branch_boss_mangadb+svn153658 guider: branch_guider_mangadb+svn155082 platedb: branch_platedbActor_mangadb+svn154928 sop: branch_v1_2_19_bigCleanup+svn155106 ---- Mirror Numbers ---- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: 15.011 15.011 Axial B: 16.004 16.003 Axial C: 15.529 15.529 Trans D: -0.007 -0.003 Lateral E: 10.6299 10.6299 Lateral F: 12.2809 12.2809 GALILS Commanded: 11300 -650 5500 21900 13500 13050 Actual: 11300 -650 5500 21900 13500 13050 SETMIR VALUES PrimDesOrient: 0.00 0.00 0.00 612.35 1500.90 PrimOrient: 0.00 0.00 0.00 612.07 1500.38 SECONDARY: ---------- Focus: 0.00 Air temp: 8.7 Altitude: 30.0 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A: -7.062 -7.063 Axial B: -7.036 -7.036 Axial C: -7.078 -7.078 Trans D: 0.029 0.024 GALILS Commanded: 1575950 1583000 1592550 -8800 -3350 Actual: 1575951 1582988 1592543 -8800 -3350 SETMIR VALUES SecDesOrient: 1257.00 -4.10 3.00 -100.00 143.14 SecOrient: 1257.00 -4.10 3.00 -100.03 143.62 ---- Miscellaneous ---- APOGEE morning calibration sequence summary: [observer@sos3 collimate]$ list_ap -m 56741 -morning APOGEE data list, mjd=56741 raw_data: /data/apogee/utr_cdr/56741/apRaw-*.fits quick_red: /data/apogee/quickred/56741/ap2D-a-*.fits.fz archive: /data/apogee/archive/56741/apR-[a,b,c]-*.apz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i UT File/Exp Imtype Nread Dth Ct-Plate Arch Offset %Flux Comm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 12:40 11790048 Dark 60 A-13.0 3-7004 a-b-c - - 2 12:50 11790049 Dark 60 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 3 13:01 11790050 Dark 60 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 4 13:12 11790051 QuarFlat 10 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 98 5 13:14 11790052 QuarFlat 10 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 98 6 13:16 11790053 QuarFlat 10 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 98 7 13:18 11790054 Arc-Thar 12 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c 1.93 - 8 13:20 11790055 Arc-Une 40 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 9 13:27 11790056 Arc-Thar 12 B-13.5 15-6964 a-b-c 2.38 - 10 13:29 11790057 Arc-Une 40 B-13.5 15-6964 a-b-c - - 11 13:37 11790058 Dark 30 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 12 13:42 11790059 InteFlat 30 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 99 13 13:47 11790060 InteFlat 30 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 99 14 13:53 11790061 InteFlat 30 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 99 15 13:58 11790062 Dark 30 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- APOGEE evening calibration sequence summary: [observer@sos3 collimate]$ list_ap APOGEE data list, mjd=56742 raw_data: /data/apogee/utr_cdr/56742/apRaw-*.fits quick_red: /data/apogee/quickred/56742/ap2D-a-*.fits.fz archive: /data/apogee/archive/56742/apR-[a,b,c]-*.apz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i UT File/Exp Imtype Nread Dth Ct-Plate Arch Offset %Flux Comm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 22:40 11800001 Dark 60 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 2 22:51 11800002 QuarFlat 10 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - 106 3 22:52 11800003 Arc-Thar 12 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c 1.91 - 4 22:55 11800004 Arc-Une 40 A-13.0 15-6964 a-b-c - - 5 23:02 11800005 Arc-Thar 12 B-13.5 11-7304 a-b-c 2.37 - 6 23:04 11800006 Arc-Une 40 B-13.5 11-7304 a-b-c - - 7 23:12 11800007 Dark 60 A-13.0 11-7304 a-b-c - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MaNGA afternoon calibration summary (with cart. 2, 7443): 01:35Z - Focused with full Hartmann sequence. 01:35:42 boss exposure 4.0, file=177427 01:37:08 boss exposure 4.0, file=177428 01:40:28 sp1.motor.move= 1878, 1877, 1878 01:40:39 sp2.motor.move= 1494, 1494, 1493 01:41Z - Biases. 01:41:27 boss exposure 0.0, file=177429 01:42:48 boss exposure 0.0, file=177430 01:44Z - Flat. 01:44:12 boss exposure 30.0, file=177431 01:48Z - Arc. 01:48:37 boss exposure 4.0, file=177432 The readout of the arc hung at 'Exp Status Legible' for a matter of minutes. We forced readout with 'boss exposure readout' and verified it was written to disk. The SOP 'Do Boss Calibs' status was stuck on 'Running' even after we tried the 'Stop' and 'X' buttons to abort. We had to resort to restarting sopActor. We tried another 'Do Boss Calibs' with just a flat queued and we experienced the same problem where the exposure hung at 'Exp Status Legible', which indicates the problem is in the cleanup portion of the 'Do Boss Calibs' routine. John P. was able to see this behavior in real time.
