We completed the SP1 lossy fiber test on cart 8. As we were mounting cart 8 on the telescope (and dismounting cart 11), we found a bolt lying on the floor in front of the lindy cart and adjacent to the lindy cart latching platform on the floor. We have no idea where it came from. We checked the lindy cart, the cartridges, and around the base of the telescope. We placed the bolt in the center of Dan Long's desk. We mounted cart 2 on the telescope at the end of the night. Note: The cover to the generator is sitting on the steps next to it. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ---------- BOSS bias, dark, collimation were checked on cart 11: Predict blue camera ring movement of -5.0 degrees for spectro-1 Predict blue camera ring movement of 1.5 degrees for spectro-2 Predict (red) piston movement of 85 steps for spectro-1 Predict (red) piston movement of -85 steps for spectro-2 motorPosition sp1: 21001, 21139, 20844; sp2: 19591, 18934, 20079; ---------- Median spectrographs temperatures: Tsp1= 7.1, Tsp2= 6.3; Outside air temperature= 7.1; APOGEE evening cal was taken, checked. All systems and actors were checked. No problem. 23:40Z started ventilation. Night: ====== 02:09Z - We did not open at sunset because of clouds and nearby radar. We mounted cart 8 for lossy fiber test. 02:10Z - Started lossy fiber test for SP1. Exposure numbers 175573 - 175632. Collimators returned to their original positions. 09:00Z - Clouds cleared momentarily. We dismounted cart 8 and mounted cart 12 in preparation of opening soon. However, when we were finished, the clouds moved back in again. We will continue to wait. The clouds are very persistent tonight. There is no chance that we can observe. We ran out of time.
