Observed the following: Cart. 10, 7182 Cart. 15, 7240 Completed spectro monthly biases, darks, and flats while closed for clouds: 25 biases: exposures 172349-172373 3X900s darks : exposures 172374-172376 5X30s flats: exposures 172377-172381 Cartridge 10 became stuck while dismounting it during a cartridge swap. We freed it after moving the instrument lift hand paddle to the manual side. Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary except that the rotator was at 3 minutes and we're not sure how that came to be since all indications prior to beginning the cartridge swap were that the rotator completed its slew to 0 as commanded. See Log for details. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon --------- Software and actors tested, status checked, all ok. --22:27:36 -- APOGEE: Evening Cals APOGEE data list, mjd=56665 raw_data: /data/apogee/utr_cdr/56665/apRaw-*.fits quick_red: /data/apogee/quickred/56665/ap2D-a-*.fits.fz archive: /data/apogee/archive/56665/apR-[a,b,c]-*.apz -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i UT File/Exp Imtype Nread Dth Ct-Plate Archiv Offset Flux Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 22:22 11030001 Dark 3 A(13.0) 18-7338 a-b-c - - - 2 22:27 11030002 Dark 60 A(13.0) 18-7338 a-b-c - - - 3 22:38 11030003 QuarFlat 10 A(13.0) 18-7338 a-b-c - 98 - 4 22:40 11030004 Arc-Thar 12 A(13.0) 18-7338 a-b-c 1.9 - - 5 22:42 11030005 Arc-Une 40 A(13.0) 18-7338 a-b-c - - - 6 22:50 11030006 Arc-Thar 12 B(13.5) 18-7338 a-b-c 2.3 - - 7 22:52 11030007 Arc-Une 40 B(13.5) 18-7338 a-b-c - - - 8 23:10 11030008 Dark 60 A(13.0) ------- a-b-x - - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THAR offset=X0-939.65, pix BOSS collimation/calibration: ct=18, pl=7338 Median spectrographs temperatures: Tsp1= 4.7, Tsp2= 4.2; Outside air temperature= 3.8; Before motorPosition sp1: 17561, 17668, 17362; sp2: 16018, 15454, 16575; After motorPosition sp1: 17305, 17409, 17105; sp2: 18152, 17588, 18710; COLLIMATE: Predict blue camera ring movement of -6.5 degrees for spectro-1 COLLIMATE: Predict blue camera ring movement of 3.4 degrees for spectro-2 COLLIMATE: Issue command: "boss moveColl spec=sp1 a=42 b=42 c=42" COLLIMATE: Issue command: "boss moveColl spec=sp2 a=170 b=170 c=170" calibrations in spec got error on first calibration : 22:52:08 APO.elenam 125 sop f text="Failed to prepare for arc" 22:52:08 CmdDone: APO.elenam 125 sop doCalibs nflat=1 narc=1 Got Guider/gcamera darks guider dark stack=9 time=14 Enclosure and Telescope have been checked. With the instrument lift still operating in Auto mode, the lift would not move upwards with the cartridge stuck in this configuration, but it would move down. We verified that both slithead latches and all three cartridge latches were indeed disengaged (all of the LEDs indicated this were true). We checked the MCP and it showed the rotator at 3 minutes, which we found surprising because we had waited until the slew to instrument change completed (121,90,00 and the TCC indicating all axes 'Tracking') before halting motion with 'axis stop' and subsequently engaging an E-stop. We also verified the index pin on the rotator was pointing to '0' before moving the Linde cart under the telescope. We've seen before where engaging an E-stop prior to issuing 'axis stop' could cause an axis to lurch, but we were careful to wait for the slew to complete and issued the 'axis stop' prior to engaging the E-stop, so we're not sure why or how the rotator ended up at 3 minutes. We ultimately moved the instrument lift hand paddle to the manual control side and slowly and carefully raised the lift to re-engage the cartridge and then lowered it to see if the cartridge were free. It took about two or three attempts, but the cartridge eventually lowered freely with no signs (or rubbing sounds) that the slitheads were contacting the slithead door/spectrograph. After removing cartridge 10 we moved the rotator back to 0 and the following cartridge mounted without any hiccups. Cart. 15, 7240 ************** 02:40Z - GSOGTF. Clouds.
