We opened the last couple hours, but did not collect a lot of signal because of scale/focus issues. The drastic change in temperature when we opened (5C within the enclosure, to -7C outside) caused us problems. We observed: Cart 17, plate 4723 Cart 18, plate 5206 No time left at the end of the night for APOGEE. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon ========= Checked that STUI actors were alive and responsive. Took guider dark, BOSS biases & dark, Hartmanns. Checked fiducial crossings, mirror numbers, upper/lower telescope enclosures. In response to the extremely dusty conditions (which will probably last all night according to the forecast), we went down to the lower enclosure HVAC control box in order to set a negative pressure differential, but the pressure set-point was already set to 0.5. Night ===== 09:30Z - Opened enclosure to partly cloudy skies and started ventilating. Winds died down, dust settled, and clouds cleared. Mounted cart 18. 09:40Z - gotoField cart 18, BOSS plate 5206. Seeing 3.0" + 10:18Z - 15 min exposure. Exposure declared bad. This plate is not done yet. During the second exposure on this plate, we noticed that the stars looked extremely odd - like double stars. When the exposure was started, the best position of the focus was 1744 - with a seeing of over 3.0". Right after guider exposure number /data/gcam/56032/proc-gimg-0090.fits, the stars began to look very strange, the automatic focuser allowed the focus to shoot up to about 2100, and the scale requested a -.07 degree move. The plate expired, so we switched. 10:45Z - Mounted cart 17, BOSS plate 4723. Declared bad. Worked on adjusting the scale and focus for awhile. Reset everything, tried again, and the images improved. We blame this incident on bad weather. The temperature was probably close to 3-5C within the enclosure when we started ventilating at 09:30Z, and the temperature outside was -7C with 35mph winds. 11:12Z - 15 min exposure. Seeing 2.5" 11:27Z - Postcals. We did not see the SOS results until after we closed, but these cals were also not good. We declared them bad, and thus the previous exposure is also bad.
