STUI error messages in problem section. The status within the STUI window showed 'amplifier disabled' for the altitude, and the PLC interlocks window showed altitude_brake at 'neither'. We disabled the PLC interlocks downstairs. The altitude amplifier showed a few red LEDs before the interlocks were bypassed, and then turned green afterwards. We tried another 'axis init', then the axes seemed to clear just fine (all ***'s within the MCP window). However, the status window showed that the status was 'out of closed loop' when we attempted to slew the telescope. The altitude motion failed to move, but the slew-status-bar began counting down. We also attempted to toggle the altitude brake. With the brake off and the interlocks bypassed, we were able to move the telescope to 89 degrees (from just over 90 degrees). After returning everything to normal (brake on, interlocks engaged) and trying again, the status window returned to an 'amplifier disabled' state, with the PLC still complaining about the altitude_brake at a 'neither'. We noticed that the brake pneumatics did not dis-engage and re-engage when we put stop buttons in and applied 'axis stop/init' commands. The status within the MCP window read **S with stop button in, and *** with stop button out. It seemed as if the brake system was in a limbo state. We called Dan Long, and he came up to the site. Before he arrived, we toggled with the altitude brake switch while messing with brake on/brake off options within the MCP menu. Everything returned to normal.
