Since we open, we had partly cloudy sky in the first hour, then mostly clear to clear skies. Seeing was between 1.2" to 1.6". We observed 7 BOSS plates. Six of them are done. cart 17, 5047. DONE. cart 13, 4358. DONE. cart 15, 4542. DONE. cart 14, 4392. DONE. cart 11, 5137. DONE cart 18, 5106. DONE. cart 16, 4485. Problems: 1) It seems that the angle of guider fiber 11 on cartridge 16 was wrong. That cost us 30 min. See log for detail. 2) Axis AZ aborted during the first exposure on cartridge 16, ~ 15 min was lost (that exposure was lost). 3) During reading out of a stopped exposure, "goto instrument change", "goto Field" etc will fail. 4) R2 temperature deviated from its nominal value (warming up?): During afternoon checkout, we found that R2 temperature was 7 C higher than its nominal value. A primary fill did bring the temperature to its nominal value. At the same time, we had STUI warning messages on SP2 voltages, no other error messages. (see log for more details.) ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: ---------- During afternoon checkout, we found the rotation part of floor moved a little when "axis stop" and "axis init" were issued. When we checked AZ fiducial crossing, the telescope slew from 140/90 to 121/90 was aborted with AZ brake went on. The rotating floor moved a little again when "axis stop" and "axis init" were issued after the axis motion abortion. But we did not have any problem till the last plate (Az aborted there). Dan Long was informed on this. During afternoon checkout, we also found that r2 temperature was at ~ -126.5 C (the nominal value is -134.8). At the same time, we also have STUI warning messages: Warn boss.SP2R1VSc2Read Reported by camCheck Warn boss.SP2R0VSc1Read Reported by camCheck Warn boss.SP2R1HeaterVRead Reported by camCheck And these warning kept popping up. We did a primary filling, then the temperature started to drop, and reached its nominal values with 20 min or so. No other error message found. Connie, Jim, Craig was informed via email on this. We check all CCD temperatures every another hour or so, no abnormal was found. STUI serious alert on APOGEE disk space was disable in STUI. APOGEE team was aware of this. All systems and actors were checked, No other problem to report. Night: Because of nearby radar return, we delayed open by 2 hours. 3:01Z enclosure off. 3:16Z cart 17, plate 5047. We thought that they might not be correct guiding stars. So we using spiral pattern, "goto FK5" hunting for stars. Finally, we found that we can center one star but not both in fiber 11 and 3, disable fiber 11 brought in other guiding stars. About 30 min was lost to the problem. 11:10Z started science exposures. Clear sky, Guider seeing are 1.3". Axis az aborted while the first exposure was almost done. We had to stopped it. So about 15 min was lost (10 min integration time, 1.5 min reading out, we could not moved the telescope during read out of a stopped exposure).
