Cartridge 4, plate 4925 observed Arcturus through clouds down science fibers, observed the field at high airmass (4 hours over), with and without refraction correction. Cartridge 5, plate 4924 Three exposures with different refraction corrections Cartridge 6, plate 4923 Three exposures with different refraction corrections Cartridge 7, plate 4911 Three exposures with different refraction corrections, plus a 12 minute MARVELS exposure - a test of co-observing. Cartridge 8, plate 4829 Six exposures; 500 sec each. No dither. Cartridge 9, plate 4830 Six exposures; 500 sec each. No dither. The APOGEE gang connector really needs to be worked on. It is still very difficult to remove from the podium. ---- Observing Log ---- Afternoon: --------- 23:40Z - ThAr lamp on 00:20Z - Ventilation started, but doors closed. 00:30Z - BOSS bias, dark, collimation done. B1 moved a total of -12 degrees. 01:38Z - Doors opened. 01:55Z - Opened enclosure - twice (for Canadian film crew) Night: ----- 02:43Z - Cartridge 11, plate 4741 - BOSS ---------------------------------------- GS in acquisition fibers. 02:45:33 hartSp2: r=699, b=2.4, txt=OK, sp2Temp = 6.7 ; 02:45:33 sos.sp2AverageMove = 1413 02:45:39 motorPos.sp2.move: 1413, 1413, 1413; 02:45:39 hartSp1: r=632, b=2.2, txt=OK, sp1Temp = 7.2 ; 02:45:39 sos.sp1AverageMove = 1621 02:45:44 motorPos.sp1.move: 1621, 1621, 1621; ------------------------------------------------------------ MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum Plugfile ------------------------------------------------------------ 55690 1.1 3.5 0.9 3.2 900.8 8.7 4741-55686-01 55690 1.3 3.4 1.0 3.2 900.8 8.9 4741-55686-01 55690 0.9 2.9 0.8 2.7 900.8 7.3 4741-55686-01 55690 1.1 3.2 1.0 3.0 900.8 8.3 4741-55686-01 55702 1.7 4.5 1.7 4.5 900.8 12.4 4741-55686-01 ------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1 17.5 5.4 16.6 4504.0 --> 45.6 ------------------------------------------------------------ This plate is not yet done. 03:42Z - Cartridge 13, plate 4839 - BOSS ---------------------------------------- GS in acquisition fibers 03:41:17 hartSp2: r=331, b=1.1, txt=OK, sp2Temp = 6.5 ; 03:41:17 sos.sp2AverageMove = 2101 03:41:27 motorPos.sp2.move: 2100, 2093, 2101; 03:41:27 hartSp1: r=791, b=2.7, txt=OK, sp1Temp = 6.9 ; 03:41:27 sos.sp1AverageMove = -1418 03:41:33 motorPos.sp1.move: -1417, -1417, -1415; Clouds came in. ----------------------------------------------------------- MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 Texp Sum Plugfile ------------------------------------------------------------ 55702 0.3 0.5 0.2 0.3 900.8 1.3 4839-55691-01 55702 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 900.9 0.0 4839-55691-01 ------------------------------------------------------------ 0.3 0.5 0.2 0.3 1801.7 --> 1.3 ------------------------------------------------------------ The second exposure was declared bad. 05:32Z - Cartridge 4, plate 4925 - APOGEE ----------------------------------------- Although we still had cloud cover, we decided to use the clouds to our advantage and put Arcturus down several science fibers. We were actually able to see the field's guide stars long enough through the clouds to set offsets, then slewed to to Arcturus, centered it in guide fiber 10 and then put it down science fibers 208 (refraction correction 0), 196 (refraction correction 0), 205 (refraction correction 1)and 209 (refraction correction 1). Skies cleared. We went to the field at 4 hours over and took a science exposure to look for differential refraction effects. Then took a sequence of calibrations. Viktor noted that there was a long time delay between issuing a STUI exposure time change and actually seeing it take effect. 07:02Z - Cartridge 5, plate 4924 - APOGEE ----------------------------------------- GS in acquisition fibers The guider failed to complete taking a guider flat and gave the following error message: 07:17:40 APO.viktorm: 07:14:31 client.v1518.guider 410 gcamera f text=\"command failed: RuntimeError('bad imaging state=3',) at /home/sdss3/products/Linux64/gcameraICC/v1_2_3/lib/gcameraICC/alta/altacam.py:241\" There was a connection problem to the camera. We tried a "gcamera restart", which didn't work. We called Craig. The correct incantation was "gcamera reconnect". Three science exposures were taken, changing the refraction center from 1 to 0 to 1 08:12Z - Cartridge 6, plate 4923 - APOGEE ----------------------------------------- GSOGTF Three exposures were taken, changing the refraction center from 1 to 0 to 1. 08:44Z - Cartridge 7, plate 4911 - APOGEE/MARVELS ------------------------------------------------- GSOGTF We tried co-observing with MARVELS on this plate, but did not have enough time for a full 50 minute MARVELS exposure. We took a 12 minute exposure just to see that we got flux down the MARVELS fibers. We did, with good counts of between 30 and 40 on the flux meter. In the meantime, we took three APOGEE exposures, changing the refraction center from 1 to 0 to 1. The airmass was low enough that we could not see any effect from this on the MARVELS flux meter.
