Subject: 2.5m obslog 20100705 (MJD 55383) Date: Tue, 6 Jul 2010 11:16:43 +0000 (UTC) From: snedden@apo.nmsu.edu (Steph Snedden) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday July 5, 2010 (MJD 55383) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Alaina Shelden Steph Snedden Support: Dan Long (afternoon) Joe Huehnerhoff (afternoon) Craig Loomis Jon Brinkmann ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- BOSS until 07:19Z, then MARVELS ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather was clear, with mostly good seeing. Managed to finish two of the partially done BOSS plates on the last night of observing before engineering shutdown. Plate 4035 - DONE Plate 4062 - DONE After Dan pumped down the MARVELS CCD, the pressure and temperature stayed in spec all night. Thanks, Dan. Took three MARVELS data points. Plate 4098A - K4 Plate 4098B - K7 Plate 3518B - K5 Note that Adrian completed most of the items on our checklist for the platedb web app during his visit and it is running on sdss-db, port 8084. The additional features are great, and already useful. Thanks very much, Adrian. I think this can be ported to 8081 whenever you want. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ========= Spectro LN2 fill system: This morning Joe changed the pressure relief valve on the sp2 fill system. Unfortunately, the new valve also opened during a normal fill, venting liquid LN2. The problem has been diagnosed thus: The relief valves open at 25 psi, which is too close to the normal fill pressure. Once the valve opens, it tends to get frozen in the open position. Dan has plans for the redesign. The relief valve should be relocated so it only vents gaseous N2. I'm sure Dan will post details. MARVELS CCD Warmup: Dan came in to pump down the MARELS CCD. It did have a vacuum leak. He had to scrounge a vacuum hose and fitting, but it worked. By evening ,the MARVELS CCD temperature and pressure were back in spec. hub25m actors: At 22:26Z we started getting critical alert emails about the tcc and boss-icc being down. At the same time we noted that we could not make a STUI connection, so the problem was isolated to hub25m. Craig phoned in,then logged on and discovered that he had left a debug task running that filled /data/logs and took down the actors. By 23:30Z, he had us back up and running, although we later discovered the boss actor was not getting info from the spectrographs. Restarting the actor (again) fixed the problem. hub25m Disk space: Disk space on hub25m was at 97% full. I didn't feel good about gzipping spectro data, but did feel okay with gzipping guider camera images. Guider files in the MJDrange of 55300 - 55339 were gzipped. Disk space is still 95% full on /data. 01:50Z - Started enclosure ventialion 02:25Z - Opened enclosure Night: ===== 03:25Z - Cartridge 11, plate 4035 - BOSS ---------------------------------------- GSOGTF in twilight This plate has partial signal left over from the last BOSS run.
