FYI: if sop reliably outputs the version when it first connects to the
hub, then STUI gets the info when it connects to the hub and it is
trivial for the script to get the cached value (I assume it's already
doing that, but I've not looked at it in awhile and I'm not sure I
know where the current version lives).
