From: Viktor Malanushenko Subject: Abbendum to: 2.5m obslog 20090826 (MJD 55070) Date: Thu, 27 Aug 2009 05:46:00 -0600 --Apple-Mail-4-335937744 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Guiding From: "Robert Lupton the Good" Date: Thu, August 27, 2009 11:41 am To: "Howard Brewington" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig Loomis, Paul Harding, and Robert Lupton stayed up all night and are tired. At the beginning of the night we observed the Milky Way with Cartridge 11, measuring rotations of 3 guide fibres. We didn't see any stars down the fibres when we went to the field (see later). We then handed the telescope over to the observers to take a pointing model. When we were returned the telescope with Cartridge 10 we went to field and saw nothing; once we realised that we were in mount not object rotation all the stars popped politely into their holes. The analysis software was unable to find stars (more accurately if found too many and cravenly gave up). We will analyse the frames tomorrow and sort this out. We took offsets (alt, az, rotation) and did a focus sweep. Unfortunately we didn't think to turn on the spectrographs, and all the Bosses were in bed and didn't remind us. > From: viktorm@apo.nmsu.edu (Viktor M) > Date: August 27, 2009 5:42:58 AM MDT > To: obs-report-25m@apo.nmsu.edu > Subject: 2.5m obslog 20090826 (MJD 55070) > Reply-To: viktorm@apo.nmsu.edu > > > APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M > > OBSERVING LOG > Wednesday August 26, 2009 > > (MJD 55070) > > ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- > > Howard Brewington > Viktor Malanushenko > Support: > Stephanie Snedden > Paul Harding > Robert Lupton > Craig Loomis > Kyle Dawson > > ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- > > shake! > Pointing Model > Test Guider > > ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- > > We lost some times due the bad weather condition during the night. > > We have tested the new Guider - OK. > > We got the new pointing model by 33 points with Sky RMS = 1.89". > We can not consider the pointing model completed, so as the NW part > of the sky not covered by points. > > > ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- > > Afternoon: > ---------- > 23:00Z Started the checkout > 23:04Z Started the imager bias > 23:05Z Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on > /dev/sda3 142G 126G 8.8G 94% / > /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot > /dev/sdb1 917G 815G 56G 94% /data > sdssfiles1p:/data1/data > 1.5T 712G 682G 52% /files > hub25mp:/home 92G 34G 59G 37% /home_hub25m > 23:15Z Collected mirror numbers. > 01:30Z Telescop & fiducial tested, all OK. > The BOSS Cart 11, plate 3520 has been mounted. > > Night: > ------- > > 01:39Z Sunset > 01:45Z opened doors, louvers, start ventilation. > Cart. 11 plate 3520 BOSS (RA 341, DEC 0.0) mounted > for the guider testing > good counterweight = 235 lb > 02:00Z - 02:50Z Home and relax mirrows - Done. > 03:02Z Evening twilight > 03:04Z - enclosure off > - guider testing. > - the good focus is +300 mk for the air temp.= +15.5 C. > 05:10Z finished > 05:27Z Moonset > 05:30Z Clouds coming. :( > 05:45Z Mounted eng.camera, good counterweight = 180 lb. > The guider Mac was frozen and died.
