Subject: 2.5m obslog 20080722 (MJD 54670) Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2008 04:10:44 -0600 (MDT) From: snedden@apo.nmsu.edu (Steph Snedden) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday July 22, 2008 (MJD 54670) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Steph Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELSPhotons! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had several hours of partly cloudy to clear skies before humidity got us, during which we finished MARVELS plates: 3004 3020B 3014 3015A We also got some questionable signal on 3001 (see log body) and partial signal on 3015B. The last part of the night was lost to humidity. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- The 45 degree altitude fiducial was not read going up, but it was read going down. Spectro focus left at a temp. of ~14C. Night: ------ Clouds forming overhead delayed opening. 02:45Z We decided to open and hopefully the orographic clouds will go away Cartridge 1, plate 3001 ----------------------- 03:18Z Needed an FK5 plus spiralPattern. There were clouds in the area, and we had trouble acquiring guide stars although when the clouds permitted we were able to get eight guide stars. The other three must be too faint. We chased the field to sec z > 2, but still only had time to get five 12-second exposures and a post-cal. The data may not be useful anyway, because of distant but bright lightning on the San Andres mountains that lit the sky in the direction we were pointing. Exposures 54237 - 54241 Flat and arc; 54242, 54243 03:59Z - Cartridge 2, plate 3004 -------------------------------- GSOGTF 04:12Z - Five 7 second exposures Flat and arc, 54244, 54245 7 sec exposures 54246 - 54250 12 sec exposures 54251 - 54255 Flat and arc, 54256, 54257 There was a delay getting the post-cal because one of the flat field bulbs was out and had to be replaced. 05:20Z - Cartridge 7, plate 3020 - field B ------------------------------------------ Another delay getting to the field, because loadCart does not like the "B" in the plateID field of the plugMapM file. After removing the "B" so loadCart would work, we went to the field and found an FK5 in fiber 11. The guide stars all appeared fainter than normal, but skies were mostly clear and the guider could handle them. Flat and arc, 54258, 54259 7 sec exposures 54260 - 54264 12 sec exposures 54265 - 54269 Flat and arc, 54270, 54271 06:50Z - Cartridge 5,plate 3014 ------------------------------- Needed an FK5 to find the field. This plate design also has very faint guide stars. Note that we were only approximately fifteen degrees from the moon. Flat and arc, 54272, 54273 7 sec exposures 54274 - 54278 12 sec exposures 54279 - 54283 Flat and arc, 54284, 54285 07:49Z - Cartridge 8, plate 3015 - Field A ------------------------------------------ GSOGTF Two of the guide stars were pretty faint. The others were okay on field A. Flat and arc, 54286, 54287 7 sec exposures 54288 - 54292 12 sec exposures 54295 - 54299 Flat and arc, 54300, 54301 08:43Z - Cartridge 8, plate 3015 - Field B ------------------------------------------ GSOGTF No guide star seen in guide fiber 4. Two guide stars were fainter than normal. Flat and arc, 54302, 54303 7 sec exposures 54304 - 54308 No 12 sec exposures - humidity rising fast Flat and arc, 54309, 54310 09:15Z Closed because of high humidity endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7641 23:40Z 23:53Z 100 O 5.21 8.64 35 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):n QA Procedures Done (y/n):n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 54230, plate -9999 ------- 23:50 54230 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54231, plate 3020 ------- 00:31 54231 10.0 flat 00:34 54232 2.0 arc 01:09 54233 3.0 arc 01:12 54234 3.0 arc 02:20 54235 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54236, plate -9999 ------- 02:51 54236 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54237, plate 3001 ------- 03:26 54237 13.0 target 03:29 54238 13.0 target 03:32 54239 13.0 target 03:36 54240 13.0 target 03:39 54241 12.0 target 03:42 54242 10.0 flat 03:44 54243 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54244, plate 3004 ------- 04:08 54244 10.0 flat 04:11 54245 2.0 arc 04:15 54246 8.0 target 04:19 54247 8.0 target 04:22 54248 8.0 target 04:25 54249 8.0 target 04:28 54250 8.0 target 04:31 54251 13.0 target 04:34 54252 13.0 target 04:37 54253 13.0 target 04:41 54254 13.0 target 04:44 54255 13.0 target 05:04 54256 10.0 flat 05:07 54257 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54258, plate 3020 ------- 06:00 54258 10.0 flat 06:03 54259 2.0 arc 06:07 54260 8.0 target 06:10 54261 8.0 target 06:12 54262 8.0 target 06:16 54263 8.0 target 06:19 54264 8.0 target 06:23 54265 13.0 target 06:26 54266 13.0 target 06:29 54267 13.0 target 06:32 54268 13.0 target 06:35 54269 12.0 target 06:38 54270 10.0 flat 06:40 54271 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54272, plate 3014 ------- 06:58 54272 10.0 flat 07:01 54273 2.0 arc 07:05 54274 8.0 target 07:08 54275 8.0 target 07:11 54276 8.0 target 07:14 54277 8.0 target 07:17 54278 8.0 target 07:20 54279 13.0 target 07:23 54280 12.0 target 07:26 54281 13.0 target 07:29 54282 12.0 target 07:32 54283 13.0 target 07:35 54284 10.0 flat 07:38 54285 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54286, plate 3015 ------- 07:55 54286 10.0 flat 07:57 54287 2.0 arc 08:01 54288 7.0 target 08:04 54289 7.0 target 08:07 54290 8.0 target 08:11 54291 8.0 target 08:13 54292 8.0 target 08:17 54293 10.0 flat 08:19 54294 2.0 arc 08:22 54295 13.0 target 08:26 54296 13.0 target 08:29 54297 12.0 target 08:32 54298 12.0 target 08:35 54299 13.0 target 08:38 54300 10.0 flat 08:41 54301 2.0 arc 08:49 54302 10.0 flat 08:51 54303 2.0 arc 08:57 54304 8.0 target 09:00 54305 8.0 target 09:03 54306 7.0 target 09:06 54307 8.0 target 09:09 54308 8.0 target 09:12 54309 10.0 flat 09:14 54310 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:28Z 1 3001 -105.02 -0.0014 28.46 0.0054 114.61 -0.0058 1.000460 04:16Z 2 3004 253.80 -0.0030 65.61 0.0031 90.67 0.0280 1.000170 06:06Z 7 3020 21.56 -0.0002 64.81 0.0038 198.15 0.0072 1.000100 07:06Z 5 3014 83.70 0.0025 45.24 0.0050 241.81 0.0101 1.000370 07:59Z 8 3015 103.00 0.0023 48.37 0.0035 255.04 0.0229 1.000270 08:56Z 8 3015 82.09 0.0032 51.29 0.0033 242.72 0.0112 1.000260 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:28Z 1 3001 1.00046 -4543 -2597 -100 -105 28.5 15.2 16 84 -- 2.3 04:16Z 2 3004 1.00017 -1679 -350 -100 254 65.6 14.8 14 83 -- 1.4 06:06Z 7 3020 1.00010 -988 224 -100 22 64.8 14.0 20 126 -- 1.4 07:06Z 5 3014 1.00037 -3654 -1877 -50 84 45.3 13.4 18 122 -- 1.3 07:59Z 8 3015 1.00027 -2666 -1095 -75 103 48.4 13.1 20 123 -- 1.5 08:56Z 8 3015 1.00026 -2568 -1023 -75 82 51.3 12.6 22 131 -- 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:53Z 65 53 0 252 (WSW) 1648 -
