Subject: 2.5m obslog 20080512 (MJD 54599) Date: Tue, 13 May 2008 05:11:46 -0600 (MDT) From: doravetz@apo.nmsu.edu (Dan Oravetz) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday May 12, 2008 (MJD 54599) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Dmitry Bizyaev, Dan Oravetz Swing: Kaike Pan ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We had to deal with wind and dust again. We did MSP imager calibrations the first half of the night and then opened the second half of the night when conditions settled down a bit. MSP Imager Calibrations ----------------------- Finished QE z 4. Spectroscopy ------------ Finished cartridge 3, 2820. Obtained signal on cartridge 4, 2819. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems were checked and working properly. The spectro focus was set for about 10C. The dust was about 6.5-8.5k and the wind speed ranged from 35 to 50 mph during the evening. No ventiltion was started. Jon started a new tcc time server and monitored it for serveral hours. It seems to be working fine. If you notice anything abnormal with the tcc, please let Jon know. Night: ------ 02:45Z - We considered opening to try to add more signal to cartridge 1. The wind gusts had fallen below 35 mph and seemed to be trending downwards, the dust was around 6000 counts, and the sky was clear, but when we went down to the enclosure we experienced wind gusts > 35 mph again and decided to wait longer and monitor the weather. 03:55Z - We experienced high wind gusts until about 03:30Z. The 1.0 um dust count increased to ~9000 counts. We decided to proceed with imager calibrations. MSP Imager Calibrations *********************** 03:58Z - MSP bias. Run 7498, frame 1. z 4 QE ------ 04:01Z - getQeCCD z 4. Run 7498, frames 2 - 38. 05:45Z - Test bias after quitting MSP software. Run 7499. We received the following error (same thing happened last night during the test bias after quitting the MSP software) during the attempt at makeRunLog for run 7499: im> pgxwin_server: Another server is already active. filling out runlog /astrolog/54599/runlog-7499.txt for run 7499. makeRunLog failed for run 7499. I have the following diagnostics plus check the murmur log and your screen history: can't read "noise": no such variable 05:50Z - The wind speeds were fine and the dust counts were gradually dropping. We opened under clear skies. 05:55Z - Doors and louvers opened, fans on, enclosure off. Cartridge 3, 2820, seguefaint167 ******************************** 06:17Z - gotoField.
