Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2008 14:24:08 -0600 From: Dan Long Subject: Re: 2.5m obslog 20080328 (MJD 54554) Hi Jim, We are looking into this. The situation is that the calibration lamps are fed from a multitap transformer which is itself fed 208V. There is no UPS 208 available in the lower enclosure. Wendell has come up with a design which would use a pair of transformers which could be used to provide both 240V (HgCd) and 120V (Ne) to the lamps and have 110V as the input. This would allow us to use the large and rather under utilized (it has no other load than the backup PMSS pumps) PMSS ups (assuming tests show that currents aren't too large, and the estimates right now are that they should not be). Given the sudden increase in frequency of these Neon lamp problems, it looks as though this might need to be implemented sooner rather than later. Cheers, Dan >This problem with the neon (now neon/argon, right?) lamps is most >disturbing. These are the new lamps which run off a >voltage-converting power supply, right?
