Subject: 2.5m obslog 20071218 (MJD 54453) Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2007 06:17:00 -0700 (MST) From: doravetz@apo.nmsu.edu (Dan Oravetz) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday December 18, 2007 (MJD 54453) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons (observer) Dan Oravetz (observer) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We enjoyed another clear night with photometric skies. We did spectroscopy until the moon set and then mounted the imager and imaged all of 1458 S. After imaging, we went back to spectroscopy for the rest of the night. Spectroscopy ------------ Acquired more signal on cartridge 2 (segue bright). The total (S/N)^2 acquired for this cartridge so far, according to the SOS values, is b1=8.9, r1=6.4, b2=16.5, r1=12.5. We contacted Brian Yanny to see what the total (S/N)^2 is after FNAL reductions and have a segue bright plate planned to be plugged if the plate is indeed finished. Acquired signal on cartridge 9. Finished cartridge 7 (marvels168). Finished cartridge 3 (chunk93). Finished cartridge 4 (segue169). SEGUE Imaging ------------- Imaged 1458 S from mu = 93 to mu = 121 including ramps and under photometric conditions. We started at an altitude of 33 degrees and ended at 44 degrees, but despite the relatively low altitude, the seeing was well below 1.5" during nearly all of the drift except when it briefly exceeded 1.5" between frames 36 - 38 and 60 - 75. Run 7244 is the on-telescope bias. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All systems checked and working properly. As of 22:20Z there are 211G available on /data and 311G available on /files, so we did not run 'byebye' to clear additional disk space. No adjustments made to spectro collimation. It is still set for ~0C. The manipulator arm interlocks logic is OFF. 23:05Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. Night: ------ 00:06Z - Enclosure off. Cartridge 2, plate 2848, segue169 ********************************* 00:33Z - gotoField. The sky was still relatively bright when we went to the field, so guide stars weren't found to begin with. We went to an fk5 and found it off to the lower right corner of fiber 10. After returning to the field, guide stars could now be seen. 01:06Z - Pre-Calibs. 01:14Z - 20-minute exposure. 01:36Z - 20-minute exposure. 01:59Z - 20-minute exposure. 02:22Z - Post-Calibs. This plate is DONE. 08:24Z - The seeing has remained relatively stable, the moon sets at 08:58Z, and skies are photometric, so we switched to imaging. 08:43Z - Mounted imager. 1458 S, Run 7243 **************** 08:58Z - Started goDrift at mu = 90.
