Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 11:52:14 GMT From: elenam@apo.nmsu.edu Subject: 2.5m obslog 20060502 (MJD 53858) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday May 2, 2006 (MJD 53858) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Howard Brewington Observers: Jurek Krzesinski Elena Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- All night we had non-photometric conditions because of clouds. We did spectroscopy. Four plates are "Done" (2101, 1776, 2140, 1729) and we obtained some signal on a special plate 2256. There were some technical problems during afternoon checkout (see the log), but the telescope worked fine during the night. Please check on plates 2009 and 2247 from MJD 53857. If they Done, please send an email to pluggers to make them ready for ET project. The intergrated dust counts were 23856 tonight. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ------------ I had to reboot the astro crate this afternoon because ad-2 was not responding. The cartridge bay door is unhappy. When I pushed the close-button, the door closed, but then re-opened. I tried a second time with the same results. So, I had to use the stop-button to keep the door close when it reached the close position. During the imager bias, we had the ongoing noise bars; however, I noticed that id-2, id-3, and id-4 had thin dark vertical bars on the left side of their displays. Using saoDisplay, I looked at the i and z images; the i-images were most affected. I discovered, though, that counts seemed okay. The dark bar of the i-images, for example, produced counts of 1162, whereas the normal looking part of the bias frame had counts of 1187. With the z-images, the dark bar produced counts of 1059 and the normal looking part of the bias had counts of 1069. The spectro focus was checked but not adjusted; see the Problems Section for the focus numbers. Night: ------------ 02:00- telescope is opened. 3:10 We checked the collimation. We do not know what was the temperature during the collimation. We guess it was 9.5C and now (at 3:00Z) it is 12C. We have applied mechPiston correction 4000 to ajust for 12C (see problem section for details). Cart 5, Plate 2101, 2:45-9:09, chunk FSonGTF 3:05 Pre-calibration; Science exposures: 3:10 (1200 sec exposure, bad), 3:36 (1200), 3:59 (1200, bad), 4:21 (1200, very bad :-((-) We have stopped observations for a while because of clouds. 5:12 (1200), 5:35 (1200) 5:57 Post-calibration is recommended and it has been done. 6:19 (900) Done with s/n=17.1. Cart 2, plate 1776, 3:59-8:43, chunk FSonGTF 6:45 Pre-calibration Science exposures: 6:51 (Exposure 1200), 7:14 (1200), 7:37 (1200), 7:59 (1500) 8:27 PostCalibration 8:33 (900) Done with s/n 19.4 Cart 6, plate 2140, 4:11-9:51, chunk. We have found that Database was not updated with appropriated s/n for 53854 and have updated it. 9:37 Pre-calibration Science: 9:43 (with exposure 1200) Done with total s/n 16.6. Cart 8, plate 2256, 06:24:12:4 FSonGTF This plate is called seguefaint, but the special instruction for this dark run requests to obtain s/n 15. 10:43 - Pre-Calibration Science: 10:49 (Exposure 900) We did only one exposure because of twilight. endNight is completed. 11:15 - closed telescope. The accumulated dust counts are 23856. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6128 23:25Z 00:34Z 100 O -78.74 -61.43 92 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39015, plate -9999 ------- 23:24 39015 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39016, plate 2117 ------- 23:53 39016 10.0 flat 23:55 39017 2.0 arc 00:08 39018 2.1 arc 00:10 39019 2.1 arc ----- sequence 39020, plate -9999 ------- 01:50 39020 0.0 bias 02:01 39021 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39022, plate 2101 ------- 03:09 39022 10.0 flat 03:11 39023 2.0 arc 03:35 39024 1200.1 target 03:58 39025 1200.1 target 04:21 39026 1200.1 target 04:43 39027 1200.1 target 05:34 39028 1200.1 target 05:57 39029 1200.1 target 06:00 39030 10.0 flat 06:02 39031 2.0 arc 06:31 39032 1200.1 target ----- sequence 39033, plate 1776 ------- 06:48 39033 10.0 flat 06:50 39034 2.0 arc 07:13 39035 1200.1 target 07:36 39036 1200.1 target 07:59 39037 1200.1 target 08:26 39038 1500.1 target 08:30 39039 10.0 flat 08:32 39040 2.0 arc 08:50 39041 900.1 target ----- sequence 39042, plate 2140 ------- 09:03 39042 10.0 flat 09:05 39043 2.0 arc 09:28 39044 1200.1 target ----- sequence 39045, plate 1729 ------- 09:40 39045 10.0 flat 09:42 39046 2.0 arc 10:10 39047 1500.1 target ----- sequence 39048, plate 2256 ------- 10:45 39048 10.0 flat 10:47 39049 2.0 arc 11:06 39050 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:28Z 5 2101 108.15 0.0004 58.75 0.0050 -94.21 -0.0232 1.000280 07:00Z 2 1776 -39.16 -0.0055 66.90 0.0045 146.73 0.0301 1.000110 09:39Z 9 1729 -38.45 -0.0006 58.85 0.0029 148.07 -0.0043 1.000230 10:35Z 8 2256 228.36 0.0008 74.71 0.0018 57.61 0.0049 1.000030 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:03Z 5 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 29.9 14.2 8 272 03:27Z 5 2101 1.00028 -2765 -1362 -230 108 58.7 14.3 12 265 -- 1.2 07:00Z 2 1776 1.00011 -1086 158 -80 -39 66.9 13.2 15 312 -- 1.0 09:39Z 9 1729 1.00023 -2271 -805 -80 -39 58.8 11.8 4 355 -- 1.2 10:35Z 8 2256 1.00003 -296 799 -80 228 74.7 12.4 6 12 -- 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:20Z 62 20 15 252 (WSW) 2367 - Clouds 23:51Z 60 18 12 268 (W) 2312 - 00:21Z 62 21 16 269 (W) 5575 - 00:52Z 61 19 8 274 (W) 3761 - 01:24Z 58 18 11 268 (W) 2930 - 01:56Z 57 18 7 266 (W) 2316 - 02:27Z 57 18 8 266 (W) 2273 - 02:57Z 58 18 7 260 (W) 2065 - 03:30Z 57 17 12 289 (WNW) 1938 - 04:04Z 56 15 9 308 (NW) 1699 - 04:35Z 56 14 11 303 (WNW) 1539 - 05:06Z 56 14 10 288 (WNW) 1529 - 05:39Z 55 14 15 295 (WNW) 1565 - 06:10Z 55 14 12 301 (WNW) 1503 - 06:43Z 55 14 10 302 (WNW) 1580 - 07:15Z 55 13 11 335 (NNW) 1556 - 07:47Z 54 12 12 325 (NW) 1431 - 08:20Z 54 13 6 329 (NNW) 1464 - 08:52Z 54 13 6 295 (WNW) 1422 - 09:24Z 53 12 1 323 (NW) 1419 - Clouds 09:55Z 54 12 5 1 (N) 1352 - 10:26Z 54 12 7 2 (N) 1472 - 10:56Z 54 12 6 359 (NNW) 1308 - 11:29Z 54 12 10 12 (NNE) 1336 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:35Z Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 02:00Z Enclosure is off, spectro dewar is refilled. 11:15 Enclosure is on, telescope is at stow (121,30,0), cart 8 (plate 2256) is mounted.
