Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2006 11:43:20 GMT From: elenam@apo.nmsu.edu Subject: 2.5m obslog 20060426 (MJD 53852) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday April 26, 2006 (MJD 53852) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days; Howard Brewington Observers: Dan Long, Elena Malanushenko, Shannon Watters ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We have had good clear sky for most of night. We finished 5 plates ( 1722, 2487, 2483, 2104, and 2120). We had problem with telescope mooving. We had found the pads inside widndbaffle and removed them. We didn't detect any damage. When doing the lower enclosure checks after closing we noted the imager belows pressure was reading about 35 instead of 40 and the "system air" regulator was tilted. Over making the gauge harder to read and the reading was 45 PSI. We tilted the regulator back to upright but did not adjust it. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- As two previous times during this darkRun, I noticed that the monitor for id-5 was dark and unhappy while I did a goDrist -bias. Instead of doing a reboot of photo-two, however, I power cycled the monitor and resolved the problem. The noise bars are still present in the astro/photo monitors. The spectro collimation was checked but not adjusted; it's set to ~+8-degrees C. The spectro numbers are in the Problem Section. Night: ---------- Opened telescope 1:45 It is clear, T=10C, wind 19 mph, dust 1900, humidity 33%. Cart 6, plate 2483, chunk. FSOonGTF. 2:50 Pre-calibration. DoNextScience: 4:26, 4:49, 5:06 S/N 22.3 14.9 23.3 20.9 DONE. We installed a new cartridge, but could not move the telescope. Dan found out that the two pads (used for standing on while cleaning the mirror) were left in the windbaffle and had wedged between the truss and windbaffle causing the aborts (and the pin stickiness probably). Brought the telescope down to 6 and retrieved the errant pads. We didn't detect any damage. We spent half an hour for this. Cart 8, plate 2120, chunk. When doing the lower enclosure checks after closing we found a couple pressures lower than normal. The imager belows pressure was reading about 35 instead of 40. Also the "system air" regulator was tilted over making the gauge harder to read and the reading was 45 PSI. We tilted the regulator back to upright but did not adjust it. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6113 23:26Z 23:53Z 100 O -84.48 -77.64 57 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 38856, plate -9999 ------- 23:27 38856 0.0 bias ----- sequence 38857, plate 2077 ------- 23:55 38857 10.0 flat 23:58 38858 2.0 arc 00:07 38859 2.2 arc 00:10 38860 2.1 arc ----- sequence 38861, plate 2483 ------- 00:59 38861 0.0 bias 01:18 38862 0.0 bias ----- sequence 38862, plate 2483 ------- 02:52 38863 10.0 flat 02:55 38864 2.0 arc 03:14 38865 900.1 target 03:37 38866 1200.1 target 04:05 38867 1500.1 target ----- sequence 38868, plate 2487 ------- 04:23 38868 10.0 flat 04:25 38869 2.0 arc 04:48 38870 1200.1 target 05:06 38871 900.1 target 05:27 38872 1100.1 target ----- sequence 38873, plate 2120 ------- 06:14 38873 10.0 flat 06:16 38874 2.0 arc 06:37 38875 1100.1 target 06:58 38876 1100.1 target 07:17 38877 1000.1 target ----- sequence 38878, plate 2104 ------- 07:32 38878 10.0 flat 07:34 38879 2.0 arc 07:54 38880 1000.1 target 08:13 38881 1000.1 target 08:32 38882 1000.2 target ----- sequence 38883, plate 1722 ------- 08:50 38883 10.0 flat 08:52 38884 2.0 arc 09:11 38885 1000.1 target 09:34 38886 1200.1 target 10:02 38887 1500.1 target 10:29 38888 1500.2 target 10:52 38889 1200.1 target 10:55 38890 10.0 flat 10:57 38891 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:47Z 6 2483 37.24 0.0022 70.02 0.0022 211.92 0.0103 1.000080 05:12Z 5 2487 -55.26 -0.0033 64.60 0.0015 133.80 0.0018 1.000140 06:40Z 8 2120 11.76 0.0017 84.40 0.0032 191.00 0.0523 1.000150 07:43Z 7 2104 267.26 -0.0010 68.18 0.0024 100.92 0.0006 1.000220 09:05Z 1 1722 -31.04 -0.0014 64.46 0.0044 153.72 -0.0106 1.000220 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23:34Z 6 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 15.9 19 229 02:47Z 6 2483 1.00008 -790 417 -60 37 70.1 9.4 10 114 -- 1.5 05:12Z 5 2487 1.00014 -1383 -63 -60 -55 64.5 9.9 22 134 -- 1.6 06:40Z 8 2120 1.00015 -1481 -171 -60 12 84.4 10.1 16 152 -- 1.3 07:43Z 7 2104 1.00022 -2173 -694 -30 267 68.2 9.9 17 144 -- 1.5 09:05Z 1 1722 1.00022 -2173 -696 -40 -31 64.5 9.6 18 147 -- 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:43Z 61 21 11 202 (SSW) 2251 - 23:15Z 61 20 15 190 (S) 2068 - 23:46Z 57 20 4 213 (SSW) 2035 - 00:17Z 57 22 11 186 (S) 2012 - 00:47Z 55 21 8 191 (S) 1988 - 01:19Z 54 22 11 187 (S) 1920 - 01:37Z 50 22 17 137 (SE) 1917 - 02:07Z 49 22 15 125 (SE) 1899 - 02:39Z 48 22 14 123 (ESE) 1922 - 03:10Z 48 22 11 113 (ESE) 2025 - 03:40Z 48 23 13 120 (ESE) 1924 - 04:10Z 49 23 14 124 (SE) 1849 - 04:40Z 49 24 16 121 (ESE) 1971 - 05:10Z 49 24 20 128 (SE) 1958 - 05:41Z 50 23 13 133 (SE) 1840 - 06:12Z 50 22 19 127 (SE) 1904 - 06:42Z 50 22 15 148 (SSE) 1895 - 07:13Z 49 23 14 136 (SE) 1823 - 07:43Z 49 26 13 143 (SE) 1881 - 08:14Z 49 27 18 138 (SE) 2083 - 08:45Z 48 28 20 145 (SE) 2000 - 09:15Z 48 27 17 139 (SE) 1994 - 09:46Z 48 31 21 150 (SSE) 2177 - 10:17Z 48 32 16 139 (SE) 2353 - 10:48Z 47 33 23 171 (S) 2278 - 11:18Z 47 35 10 211 (SSW) 2554 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:23Z Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 01:45Z Enclousure Open 11:20Z Enclosure Closed, Louvers Closed, Fans Off.
