Subject: 2.5m obslog 20061202 (MJD 54072) Date: Sun, 3 Dec 2006 06:41:56 -0700 (MST) From: elenam@apo.nmsu.edu APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday December 2, 2006 (MJD 54072) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Olena Malanushenko ET Team: Jian Ge, Scott Fleming Support: Stephanie Snedden ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Photometric, cold, almost -7C, no wind, dust, snow, or rain. We did observations of all ET cartridges. We have to command "gotoField -gflat" at least twice to center the guider flat and overlay. All stars are on the center of fibers after that. Cart 1 (plate 8033) has large offset and we need to use spiralPattern to find fk5 star, it is not the Moon problem. We did not obtained last exposure because of increasing of humidity and detection some frost of the enclosure wall. But it was 15 minut before expected end of observations. The heating of the telescope is on. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Telescope checked and all systems work fine. Mirror numbers are the same as at last night. We Homed and relaxd primary mirror to see if this can fix the problem with guiding (it did not). Night: ------- 01:26Z cart 8, plt E8032. Find stars on go to field. One 50-min exposure. The stars have not been centered on their fibers similar as it was for last several days. Steph suggested us to to check the oerlap gflat and fiber position and if it is not centeredapply another "gotoField -gflat". We did it for next cartridge and got good result. 02:36Z cart 4, plt E8030. Two science exposures for 50 min each. Applied gflat twice - This fixes the guiding problem! 05:10Z cart 1, plt E8033. Could find fk5 using spiralPattarn search (with params 10 5 3) and found fk5 with offset 10,10,0. The big offset may indicate the pointing problem. Two 50 min exposures. 7:10Z Cart 2, plt E8018. Used Fk5 star for pointing. One exposure. 8:10Z. Cart 6, plate E8016. Find stars on go to field. One exposure. 9:17Z Cart 7 plt E8017, Find stars on go to field. One exposure. 10:23 Cart 3, plt E8024, Find stars on go to field. One exposure. 11:33 Cart 5 plt 8025, using fk5 to find the guider stars. We obtained only one exposure and closed telescope. Closed at 12:30 because the Diff goes down and it was 3.1 at this time. I detected frost on the wall of the enclosure, did not detect on the reils and imager dom, but desided to close. After I closed the diff decreased and stay around 2.8. Temperature -8C. Cold. EndNight in finished. I turn on A/C fan the heater During observations we had several messages"vs+" - voltages -ccd55. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): n QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 41652, plate 8032 ------- 01:22 41652 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:02Z 8 8032 -65.55 -0.0017 63.09 0.0020 125.87 -0.0170 0.999800 02:50Z 4 8030 -1.63 0.0005 51.43 0.0007 178.57 -0.0116 0.999700 05:18Z 1 8033 -39.04 0.0007 66.47 0.0054 146.98 0.0362 0.999850 07:08Z 2 8018 117.53 0.0021 65.03 0.0004 -80.55 0.0049 1.000100 08:25Z 6 8016 15.51 0.0009 56.04 0.0002 192.97 -0.0105 1.000050 09:17Z 7 8017 13.43 0.0006 61.85 0.0003 191.28 -0.0078 1.000040 11:40Z 5 8025 55.12 -0.0007 45.50 -0.0020 223.62 -0.0137 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:03Z 8 8032 0.99980 1975 3079 300 -66 63.1 -1.7 12 243 -- 1.6 02:47Z 4 8030 0.99970 2963 3918 290 -1 51.4 -2.1 9 240 -- 1.9 05:18Z 1 8033 0.99985 1481 2584 220 -39 66.4 -4.9 4 272 -- 1.7 07:08Z 2 8018 1.00010 -988 574 250 118 65.0 -5.6 6 319 -- 1.4 08:25Z 6 8016 1.00005 -494 1034 280 16 56.0 -6.1 9 332 -- 1.6 09:17Z 7 8017 1.00004 -395 1021 200 13 61.9 -6.4 7 333 -- 1.5 11:39Z 5 8025 1.00000 0 1446 250 55 45.4 -7.1 10 347 -- 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:05Z 32 10 11 233 (SW) 365 - 23:37Z 31 10 8 239 (WSW) 378 - 00:09Z 30 9 10 226 (SW) 367 - 00:41Z 29 9 6 253 (WSW) 376 - 01:13Z 28 8 9 228 (SW) 419 - 01:44Z 28 7 9 216 (SW) 458 - 02:15Z 28 7 9 253 (WSW) 464 - 02:46Z 28 7 6 229 (SW) 485 - 03:18Z 24 12 1 186 (S) 606 - 03:50Z 24 12 1 124 (SE) 669 - 04:24Z 24 12 1 168 (SSE) 766 - 04:54Z 24 12 3 259 (W) 747 - 05:24Z 23 12 4 263 (W) 763 - 05:55Z 23 12 3 269 (W) 693 - 06:25Z 22 12 6 300 (WNW) 745 - 06:55Z 22 12 7 301 (WNW) 696 - 07:25Z 21 8 8 313 (NW) 749 - 07:55Z 21 11 7 282 (WNW) 791 - 08:27Z 20 11 7 333 (NNW) 723 - 09:00Z 20 11 12 324 (NW) 657 - 09:32Z 20 12 9 324 (NW) 665 - 10:02Z 19 12 6 332 (NNW) 722 - 10:34Z 19 12 6 347 (NNW) 740 - 11:07Z 19 12 6 350 (NNW) 700 - 11:37Z 19 12 9 340 (NNW) 772 - 12:08Z 18 12 4 10 (N) 742 - 12:40Z 17 12 7 13 (NNE) 739 - 13:12Z 17 12 10 24 (NNE) 895 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Fans on, Louvers and doors open. 00:10Z Enclosure off. 12:45Z Enclosure on, fans off, louvers close.
