Subject: 2.5m obslog 20061128 (MJD 54068) Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2006 06:08:44 -0700 (MST) From: snedden@apo.nmsu.edu APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday November 28, 2006 (MJD 54068) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Long (swing) Dan Long, Steph Snedden (night) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science, of course. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Imaged 82 S for Suoernova in two pieces with a gap to avoid the Moon: from lambda 115 to 157 and 174.5 to -125 (ramps not included) Finished one plate, 2579 Problems: id2 and id6 stopped responding at different times during the night. Had to stop a science drift for one of these instances. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- During the doghouse bias, id6 stopped responding/ Rebooted photo crate 2. The rest of the afternoon checkout went without problems. Spectro focus adjusted for 0 C. Evening: -------- High winds delayed opening a little, bt we were on strip 82 S by end of twilight anyway. Run 6615 Supernova 82 S 01:09Z scanStripe starting at lambda 110. Skippy and focus good from the beginning. 01:20Z - Start of ramp, lambda 113, frame 25 01:28Z - Start of science, lambda 115, frame 38 We tpast the drift to skip past the Moon, which is within a few degrees at lambda 164 04:16Z - end science at lambda 157, frame 319 04:24Z - end Drift at lambda 159, frame 335 Seeing was variable, but bad throughout. Run 6616 Supernova 82 S 04:31Z - start drift at lambda 170.5 Skippy good from the beginning. The focus loop was as good as it could be, given the seeing, from the beginning. 04:41Z - start of science at lambda 173, frame 24 04:49Z - end of drift at lambda 175, frame 37 because node id2 failed to respond. Rebooted photo 1. No useful data. Run 6617 Supernova 82 S This run never got off the ground because the photo 1 crate reboot did not complete normally. There were a lot of checksum and frameCatcher invalid frame errors. It was probably because we accidentally did a goDrift -quick after the reboot of the crate. See the problems section. 05:02Z Run 6618 Supernova 82 S again 05:03Z start scan at lambda 172 05:11Z start science at lambda 174.5, frame 23 Skippy and focus loop good from frame 15 09:12Z lambda -125, frame 426 - end of sciece 09:20Z lambda -123. frame 439 - end of drift Seeing was variable, but mostly bad throughout. 09:38Z Switch to spectroscopy since seeing doesn't warrant SEGUE imaging. 09:44Z - Cartridge 4, plate 2579 - Legacy Needed to do a second guider flat before we got guider corrections on the guide stars. The first guider flat was significantly offset from the overlay. GSOGTF The QATopTen brightest galaxies for this plate showed some fibers with very little signal. Only one of the brightest five galaxies had the expected signal. In other categories (QSO, STAR_RED_DWARF, STAR_BHB) the signal and spectrum were appropriate for the listed rmag. Declared done with a total exposure time of 3900 s 11:28Z - Cartridge 1, plate 2481 - Legacy GSOGTF One barely useful exposure before the clouds came in. One bad exposure after that. This plate is still not done. endNight finished. We spooled/photo'd run 6615 ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- 6614 00:04Z 00:23Z 100 O 138.02 142.62 45 bias 6615 01:09Z 04:25Z 82 S 110.32 159.61 343 science 6616 04:32Z 04:50Z 82 S 170.56 -184.86 45
