Subject: 2.5m obslog 20061025 (MJD 54034) Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2006 05:42:56 -0600 (MDT) From: elenam@apo.nmsu.edu APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 25, 2006 (MJD 54034) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Viktor Malanushenko Observers: Howard Brewington & Olena Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- superNova Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We have had one more night with clouds, high humidity and strong wind. The Supernova stripe 82-S with lambda=111.00-155.37 has been observed. The seeing was bad and the drift is ended because of clouds. We had cloudCam problems and Howard reinstalled Kurt's camera. It's working well enough for now. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- Telescope has been checked. All systems work fine. Spectro Collimation has been done and focusing on expected night temp.= +5.0C. Time exposure on Spectro Collimation has been equal 3 sec. The details - in to "Problems' section. The PT has been checked. It works good; Biases and Dom Flats have been obtained. Disk space has been checked and cleaned. Now there is: /files partition ~101 Gb and /data partition ~384 Gb. High humidity, can't opened, ventilations etc. Night ----- 01:50 There are low heavy clouds but we hope they go away soon. Temperature is 4.8 C, wind is 19-13 mph, humidity is 84%. 00:00 We have mounted the imager inside inclosure but did not open enclosure because of high humidity. 00:45 Z, Run 6491, Telescope Bias, 38 frames. Howard noted a scrolling dark band on Photometric-4 display, it has so low contrust that it is difficult to see. But it is not in the CCDs. 01:20 Z. Run 6492. Bias again. The humidity is dropped down, and clouds are go out. Se started ventillation at 2:20Z and opened enclosure at 2:40. We had more cloudCam problems tonight. The artifacts were very visible. Howard reinstalled Kurt's camera with his control box and aligned it. Except for the incorrect scale, it's working well enough for now. Howard sent detailed email about this problem. 03:00 Z Run 6493. Stripe 82-S. Go Drift and the focus loop have been ran but focus window did not appear. The drift was ended; iop session was restart and go drift with focus loop works again. 03:00Z Run 6494: Supernova, 82 S, start lambda +111. Skippy is good and the seeing is bad (2.5-3.0") from the beginning. In focus by frame 15. Science from lambda=115, frame 31. The initial focus loop has been started from +250 based on visual adjustment. It was far from the expected value -100 and we can explaine it by bad seeing and not eqilibrium temperature of the mirror at the beginning. After two hours the focus dropped to expected -100, but during these hours we saw fluctuation of focus position and were out of focus several times. We think that focus loop did not work very good tonight. Clouds come back and the imager could not see stars from frame 222 (lambda 143.7) to frame 247 (lambda=147.47). After that we could see only bright stars. On satellite image we see a tiny cloud above APO, so we wait some time. But cloud did not move away and we ended the drift at 06:10Z, frame 299 (lambda 155.37). 6:25Z Based on satellite images we see some storm north of us, and we have overcast on mountain. We closed the dome and keep ventillation. Wait for the improving of weather. 10:10Z the humidity is dropping again up to 1.8. The ventillation is stopped, the doors are closed. High humidity, strong wind and clouds did not allow us to continue observations. We stopped the the point of no return at 11:10Z. End Night is completed. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6490 21:43Z 22:09Z 100 O 69.14 75.57 54 bias -- should be "ignore" 6491 00:41Z 01:01Z 100 O 113.79 118.63 46 bias telescpe 6492 01:23Z 01:43Z 100 O 124.23 129.27 48 bias telescope 6493 03:00Z 03:10Z 82 S 111.37 114.02 32 science 6494 03:12Z 06:07Z 82 S 114.40 155.36 307 science ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6493 20 4 81 -3.500 0.204 -4.600 0.204 -0.01790 234 42 6494 17 4 74 -3.500 0.226 -4.500 0.233 -0.01913 237 40 6494 68 4 113 -2.600 0.257 -4.100 0.191 -0.01941 237 40 6494 152 4 88 -0.800 0.215 -3.100 0.152 -0.01884 237 40 6494 205 4 62 -0.100 0.201 -2.800 0.182 -0.01791 237 40 6494 257 4 69 0.100 0.193 -3.100 0.162 -0.01735 237 40 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 41158, plate 2441 ------- 21:28 41158 0.0 bias 21:44 41159 10.0 flat 21:46 41160 2.0 arc 21:57 41161 10.0 flat 22:00 41162 2.0 arc 22:13 41163 10.0 flat 22:16 41164 2.0 arc 22:27 41165 3.0 arc 22:30 41166 3.0 arc 22:49 41167 10.0 flat 22:51 41168 2.0 arc ----- sequence 41169, plate -9999 ------- 23:46 41169 0.0 bias 23:56 41170 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:03Z imager -57.11 0.0000 40.06 0.0000 44.90 0.0000 1.000000 04:50Z imager -57.11 0.0000 40.06 0.0000 44.91 0.0000 1.000000 05:16Z imager -57.11 0.0000 40.07 0.0000 44.91 0.0000 1.000000 05:55Z imager -57.11 0.0000 40.07 0.0000 44.91 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:03Z imager 1.00000 0 11 60 -57 40.1 5.1 18 255 i'23 2.27 04:49Z imager 1.00000 0 -125 -76 -57 40.1 5.0 17 266 i'23 2.16 05:15Z imager 1.00000 0 -146 -97 -57 40.1 5.0 13 267 i'23 2.16 05:55Z imager 1.00000 0 -176 -127 -57 40.1 5.3 17 276 i'23 1.75 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 19:46Z 46 34 16 277 (W) 146 - Clouds 20:18Z 46 35 17 241 (WSW) 171 - Clouds 20:50Z 48 39 13 258 (WSW) 183 - Clouds 21:26Z 48 42 19 250 (WSW) 182 - Clouds 21:58Z 44 39 14 238 (WSW) 153 - Clouds 22:30Z 43 38 18 242 (WSW) 209 - Clouds 23:01Z 43 38 17 269 (W) 174 - Clouds 23:31Z 43 39 23 261 (W) 206 - Clouds 00:01Z 43 38 18 250 (WSW) 168 - Clouds 01:03Z 41 36 20 253 (WSW) 173 - Clouds 01:35Z 40 36 20 248 (WSW) 188 - Clouds 02:07Z 41 34 18 261 (W) 175 - Clouds 02:40Z 41 33 15 254 (WSW) 146 - 03:12Z 41 33 19 247 (WSW) 130 - 03:44Z 41 32 17 247 (WSW) 118 - 04:15Z 40 31 20 253 (WSW) 131 - 04:45Z 41 31 18 267 (W) 126 - 05:15Z 41 31 13 266 (W) 128 - 05:48Z 41 31 18 287 (WNW) 150 - 06:21Z 41 31 14 295 (WNW) 153 - Clouds 06:53Z 41 32 17 290 (WNW) 162 - 07:25Z 41 32 17 293 (WNW) 161 - 07:57Z 40 32 18 295 (WNW) 179 - 08:29Z 40 32 24 290 (WNW) 174 - 09:01Z 39 31 18 276 (W) 169 - 09:34Z 38 30 14 265 (W) 182 - 10:06Z 36 32 18 290 (WNW) 289 - 10:38Z 36 32 13 298 (WNW) 274 - 11:10Z 37 30 19 296 (WNW) 266 - 11:42Z 35 31 18 299 (WNW) 309 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:20Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 02:40Z Enclosure off. 06:25Z Enclosure on 10:10Z Doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed.
