Later on we remained closed due to thick cirrus, but did begin ventilating. Opened long enough to finish one cartridge and get one good science exposure on a second before the weather turned on us again. We remained closed for the rest of the night and packed it in toward 11:30Z. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout ------------------ While doing imager checkout biases, we got the an error message regarding failure to view a window; stacktrace is in the problems section. During test slews we noted a loud ~40 Hz hum during simultaneous moves in azimuth and rotation; see Problems section for details. JB came in and fixed the problem. Night ----- 05:15Z Windscreen touch -- Likely due to JB's work on the scope 05:45Z Turned on ventilation fans Mounted cart 8 plate 1604 on the telescope at the time we opened (06:30Z). Used fk5 star for pointing; final offsets were 18"E and 10"S. Initial guess at seeing was 2-2.5" before focusing, about 1.5" after focusing. Efficiency was high for the first two science exposures, so we backed off the time on the last exposure to 720 s from 900 s. Efficicency dropped during this time, so the exposure was upped to 900 s. 08:10Z On to cart 4 plate 1353; found an fk5 star after clearing the earlier offsets. Toward the end of the first science exposure, clouds began to move in from the northeast. Efficiency dropped as we noted radar returns in the Ruidoso area and contemplated closing. After the first science exposure ended, we opted to close. 09:00Z Closed due to clouds/threatening rain. We left the east and west doors cracked to allow airflow. 10:10Z Lightning observed to our north. 11:16Z Started endNight after declaring the rest of the night useless (high humidity and persistent clouds). 11:30Z endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4500 23:08Z 23:26Z 100 O -131.76 -127.36 43 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 25556, plate -9999 ------- 22:37 25556 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25557, plate 1374 ------- 23:42 25557 10.0 flat 23:44 25558 2.0 arc 23:48 25559 2.1 arc 23:51 25560 2.1 arc 00:04 25561 2.1 arc 00:07 25562 2.1 arc 00:15 25563 10.0 flat 00:24 25564 10.0 flat ----- sequence 25565, plate -9999 ------- 00:47 25565 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25566, plate 1374 ------- 06:29 25566 0.0 bias ----- sequence 25567, plate 1604 ------- 06:55 25567 10.0 flat ----- sequence 25567, plate 1604 ------- 06:58 25568 2.0 arc 07:18 25569 900.1 target 07:36 25570 900.1 target 07:53 25571 900.1 target 07:57 25572 10.0 flat 07:59 25573 2.0 arc ----- sequence 25574, plate 1353 ------- 08:26 25574 10.0 flat 08:29 25575 2.0 arc 08:51 25576 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 07:01Z 8 1604 -10.71 0.0103 68.83 0.0037 170.74 0.0041 1.000210 08:34Z 4 1353 106.02 -0.0015 62.50 -0.0006 -93.18 0.0000 1.000050 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL7298 Stays: JL7299 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 07:01Z 8 1604 1.00021 -2073 -333 250 -11 68.8 2.9 13 68 gdr 1.6 08:35Z 4 1353 1.00005 -494 938 200 106 62.5 3.7 17 74 gdr 1.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:30Z 41 34 1 332 (NNW) -9999 - 23:03Z 41 35 9 310 (NW) -9999 - 23:35Z 40 33 4 35 (NE) -9999 - 00:07Z 39 35 7 354 (NNW) -9999 - 00:41Z 37 34 7 16 (NNE) -9999 - 01:11Z 37 28 11 6 (N) -9999 - 01:44Z 37 30 2 27 (NNE) -9999 - 02:16Z 37 24 8 354 (NNW) -9999 - 02:48Z 36 30 8 357 (NNW) -9999 - 03:20Z 36 30 1 32 (NNE) -9999 - 03:52Z 35 28 1 354 (NNW) -9999 - 04:25Z 36 29 4 2 (N) -9999 - 04:57Z 37 30 14 26 (NNE) -9999 - 05:29Z 37 29 10 0 (N) -9999 - 06:01Z 36 26 12 51 (NE) -9999 - 06:31Z 37 26 14 64 (ENE) -9999 - 07:02Z 37 24 13 66 (ENE) -9999 - 07:33Z 37 23 13 68 (ENE) -9999 - 08:04Z 38 22 15 74 (ENE) -9999 - 08:35Z 38 23 17 73 (ENE) -9999 - 09:06Z 38 24 18 73 (ENE) -9999 - 09:37Z 38 25 19 79 (E) -9999 - 10:07Z 36 27 14 74 (ENE) -9999 - 10:38Z 35 29 17 74 (ENE) -9999 - 11:09Z 33 30 10 92 (E) -9999 - 11:40Z 32 30 14 78 (ENE) -9999 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 05:45Z Started ventilating 06:30Z Opened telescope 09:00Z Closed telescope; ventilation off 11:38Z Mike swapped out the imager LN2 dewar. Vibrations which felt like it was being coupled into or out of the PMSS were felt (and heard) on simultaneous moves in azimuth and rotation. JB traced the problem to the amplifier which he and Mike swapped out yesterday for repairs. The trouble was in the analog module in the spare amplifier. Jon swapped the analog modules from the flight amp and the spare, which appeared to solve the problem.
