Although Steph and I knew the two inst blocks were identical from Dan
and Russet (who happened to be in the control and checked it
independently), we tried using both inst blocks to see if we get better
luck (we were quite desperate, you see).  Both inst blocks showed the
same behavior and our fk5 star walked away.
