Deteriorating conditions toward midnight forced us to close, and we did not re-open for the remainder of the night. Made a tweak to sp1 wavemin, which was just into the yellow range in SoS. Enclosure temperature 2C sp1 Coll_motor_A -3300 Coll_motor_B -5200 Coll_motor_C -6000 sp2 Coll_motor_A 9986 Coll_motor_B -8447 Coll_motor_C -2212 Night: ------ Conditions were windy at opening. 01:05Z Loaded Cart 2, Plate 1903 (seguefaint98). Stars on gotoField. We got four 900 s exposures on this plate for a low (S/N)^2 of 18.7, bringing the total to 46.3. We hestitate to declare this plate done, but it is already past its shelf date. Would someone please have a look at what we have accumulated on this plate to date and let us know if it's safe to call it done and unplug? 02:55Z Loaded Cart 7, Plate 1181 (tremonti55). Stars on gotoField but required a DEC offset of about +4 arcseconds to center before starting the guider. Got three 120 s exposures at the central pointing. During the cycle of pointings, just after 05:00Z, the servers died suddenly within seconds of the end of an exposure (see Problems section for details). A PTVME error occurred simultaneously. The exposure which should have read out at the moment of the error was lost. We finished the central pointing of this plate and the first offset position, then closed at 06:25Z after a couple of near-40 MPH wing gusts and deteriorating seeing conditions. Conditions never improved, and we did not re-open. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5073 22:24Z 22:40Z 100 O 130.21 134.16 39 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29863, plate 1903 ------- 22:34 29863 10.0 flat 22:37 29864 2.0 arc 22:40 29865 2.1 arc 22:43 29866 2.1 arc 23:02 29867 10.0 flat 23:05 29868 2.0 arc 23:08 29869 2.1 arc 23:10 29870 2.1 arc 00:00 29871 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29872, plate -9999 ------- 00:53 29872 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29872, plate 1903 ------- 21.7 18.7 22.6 22.5 DONE 01:22 29873 10.0 flat 01:24 29874 2.0 arc 01:44 29875 900.1 target 02:02 29876 900.1 target 02:05 29877 10.0 flat 02:08 29878 2.0 arc 02:26 29879 900.1 target 02:44 29880 900.1 target ----- sequence 29881, plate 1181 ------- 02:58 29881 10.0 flat 03:00 29882 2.0 arc 03:28 29883 1200.1 target ----- sequence 29881, plate 1181 ------- 03:52 29884 1200.1 target 04:15 29885 1200.1 target 04:40 29886 1200.1 target ----- sequence 29887, plate 1811 ------- 05:07 29887 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29888, plate 1181 ------- 05:48 29888 1200.1 target 06:17 29889 1500.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:19Z 2 1903 -5.73 -0.0005 57.11 -0.0007 175.10 0.0215 0.999970 01:37Z 2 1903 -13.92 -0.0005 56.46 -0.0007 168.25 0.0215 0.999970 03:12Z 7 1181 39.72 -0.0004 50.06 0.0025 212.41 -0.0007 1.000270 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8206 Stays: JL8207 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:34Z 2 1903 0.99997 296 1656 250 -12 56.6 0.7 12 24 01:37Z 2 1903 0.99997 296 1657 250 -14 56.5 0.6 21 21 -- 1.5 03:12Z 7 1181 1.00027 -2665 -926 100 40 50.1 0.4 27 25 -- 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:32Z 38 2 17 351 (NNW) 217 - Clear 23:05Z 36 5 8 358 (NNW) 190 - Clear 23:38Z 34 8 15 15 (NNE) 161 - Clear 00:10Z 33 10 16 6 (N) 216 - Clear 00:42Z 32 15 18 13 (NNE) 255 - Clear 01:02Z 31 17 20 9 (N) 247 - Clear 01:33Z 32 10 19 11 (N) 152 - Clear 02:07Z 32 6 16 17 (NNE) 150 - Clear 02:37Z 33 6 19 28 (NNE) 160 - Clear 03:08Z 32 4 19 38 (NE) 154 - Clear 03:40Z 32 4 20 37 (NE) 149 - Clear 04:11Z 32 5 17 21 (NNE) 137 - Clear 04:41Z 31 5 20 31 (NNE) 152 - Clear 05:13Z 31 2 21 13 (NNE) 119 - Clear 05:44Z 28 11 21 52 (NE) 306 - Clear 06:14Z 25 14 19 63 (ENE) 560 - Clear 06:44Z 24 16 30 55 (NE) 471 - PtlyCldy 07:15Z 24 17 22 80 (E) 639 - PtlyCldy 07:47Z 23 17 34 65 (ENE) 628 - PtlyCldy 08:19Z 22 18 28 71 (ENE) 687 - PtlyCldy 08:51Z 23 18 18 73 (ENE) 676 - PtlyCldy 09:21Z 22 18 24 83 (E) 534 - PtlyCldy 09:51Z 22 18 26 68 (ENE) 440 - PtlyCldy 10:22Z 21 18 25 64 (ENE) 490 - PtlyCldy 10:52Z 21 19 27 68 (ENE) 498 - PtlyCldy 11:22Z 21 18 23 73 (ENE) 450 - PtlyCldy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:30Z Doors Open, Fans On 00:45Z Enclosure off 06:25Z Enclosure on, garage doors closed, recirc fans on 11:15Z Fans off (we inadvertently left these on after the humidity rose) Telescope stowed at 121,30 with Cartridge 7 (Plate 1181) mounted Counterwights at 160 No interlocks bypassed Spectro autofill reconnected Dewar weights at 11:50Z Imager: 204lbs 21psi Spectro: 249lbs 24psi (we swapped spectro dewars just before shutting down for the night) ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_143_0 Watcher: MCP: v5_26_0 TPM: tpm_v2_46_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: v1_96 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.5660 0.5600 Axial B 0.5720 0.5720 Axial C 0.9300 0.9330 Trans D -8.1990 -8.1960 Lateral E 10.0584 10.0457 Lateral F 11.6205 11.6205 GALILS Commanded: 4300. -1900. 2850. -13300. -7600. -7650. Scot tried a bias from the sop command line immediately after the problem appeared, and the resulting frame was correctly displayed on the scrolling displays without a reboot. However, we did lose one offset science exposure (which *would* have been 29887; the actual 29887 is the bias Scot took) to the problem.
