But the last couple deg. have rot error slightly larger than spec. o 22S 20 min into doing this stripe, we got a rotator abort. Ro=20deg at the time. No useful data on 22S since the transparency first went bad and then later the seeing went bad. o endNight is running as we go to bed. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- During afternoon checkout, we took doghouse bias. id4-1 complained about the tape (see Problem section for exact watcher errors). Howard stopped the bias and replaced the tape and cleaned the drive and rebooted photo2 crates, just in case. When taking the second doghouse bias, we saw watcher error again about id4-1. This time, there was a rimfire error, so archInit and another reboot was done. We then saw watcher complaing about poolNRGangTrim (1: 2004-12-12 00:34:27Z) which means that there was a Gang that did not get archived correctly?? Since doghouse bias gangs cannot be that important, we decided to not worry about it. The third doghouse bias went fine. 00:10Z We opened with Cart8. We got windscreen touch error while opening. We had to use spiralPattern using fib 11 to find the star. We did not see the fk5 star when using fiber10. We were close to focus so that was not the problem. Fiber 10 is getting light and when we are getting the guide star in the field through fiber 10. Oh well. The seeing is subarcsec according to the 3.5m, and we are getting 1.2". The small clouds that were moving towards us disappeared, so we will switch to imaging after this plate. Finished this plate with 3 exposures. switched2Imaging Run 5042 82S ============= rotator good from the beginning. nuErr=-8.5". We soilder on. Frame=24 Lambda=-164 ramp start, inFocus. Frame 39 Longitude -161.8 seeing run claims the seeing is good from here. We think it is good from Frame 24. Wind is a bit strong, although not closing condition. The gust are 30-35m/h. We got poolNRGangTrim (11: 2004-12-12 04:44:55Z) for all nodes. We ignore, as folklore instruct us to. Frame 209 Longitude -136.4 Seeing becomes bad. :( Frame 250 Longitude -130.3 Seeing becomes marginal. Frame 269 Longitude -127.4 Seeing is back to good!! Frame 293 Longitude -123.8 end of the drift. Run 5043 Cross Scan 206 0 ========================== skippy cannot run on this scan. Frame 18 Longitude 33.3 in focus. Seeing is all acceptable. We had to ask Steve Kent how we know we are at the right place since the tccmon cannot tell us where we are in longitude and SoKent also does not calculate the longitude correctly for cross scan. He told us all we have to make sure is we are going from south to north and cross the equator, which is what we are doing. So we will take 0.8hr of data as requested and then call it good. Frame 58 Longitude 34.0 seeing becomes good Frame 68 Longitude 35.5 seeing bcomes acceptable Frame 79 Longitude 37.0 seeing becomes good. Frame 94 Longitude 39.1 end the drift Run 5044 SEGUE 1300 N ============================ We have about 30min before the first northern scan is available so we decide to do an hour of SEGUE before we do northern scan. Around 07:35Z, the iop window from which Howard issued scanstripe did not return a prompt after the telescope reached its destination. In the murmur log, we saw many: tccPutAndWait finished trying listenerToTCC scroll by. Eventually, trying-to-talk-to-TCC job timed out and there was a "tccClose" message in the window and the prompt came back. Meanwhile, we tried to start goDrift from a different iop window, but this also hung. Howard kill the goDrift process, but the prompt did not come back and the window was still hanging. Then, the iop window restarted tcc connection on its own. We then reissued scanStrip and goDrift and all was well. The skippy showes we are 13.4" off. Since we only plan to do one hour scan, we decide to go on and not correct. Frame 21 Longitude 78.4 in Focus. Frame 39 Longitude 81.0 SoKent calls the seeing good from here. But we think all is well from Frame 21. The seeing stayed good for ther est of the run. The NuErr also stayed around 13". Frame 146 Longitude 97.2 end of Science Frame 160 Longitude 99.2 end of run. Run 5045 23 S ================ Frame 11 Longitude -68.2 infocus. good seeing. skippy says we are nuErr=-7.7". Frame 40 Longitude -63.9 start science Frame 65 nuErr=-10.3 Rotator error is increasing during this run. Compared to the other runs tonight, this run started out with larger (but within survey limit) rotator error (-0.015 while others were less than half of this). Frame 184 Longitude -42.3 THETAF=-0.04078 We have about 20 min before the end of this stripe. So we decided not to correct for the rotator even if it exceeds -0.042. Frame 195 Longitude -40.5 THETAF=-0.0433 Frame 226 Longitude -36.0 end of science Run 5046 22 S =============== In focus from the beginning. Seeing is good from the beginning. skippy is happy from the beginning too. With nuErr=4.6", it is the smallest nuErr tonight. Frame 40 Longitude -63.9 start of science around 3 degrees (around Frame 58) into the run, we got rotator abort. rotator (MGT: bad rot state ABORT_EVENT: ID_ERROR_LIMIT (2004-12-12 11:08:17Z sdssmcp): 2004-12-12 11:08:25Z ) rotator=20deg is when this happened. So it cannot be wrap, can it? T=7so it is NOT cold related either. We stopped this run. This run is called bad. We moved the rotator around to make sure the rotator will not abort. We went to 0-40deg and we had no problem. Run 5047 22S ==================== Focus, seeing is good from the beginning. skippy says we have nuErr=8.6". We have about 1hr before twilight. Some structure in the cloud camera started to show usp beginning of this run. The stddv= 7-10. 11:47Z Frame 55 Longitude -60.7 The cloudcamera shows we are stedev less than 7. Around the same time, the seeing started to go up. Frame 39 Longitude -63.0 seeing goes from good to acceptable Frame 50 Longitude -61.4 seeing goes from acceptable to bad Frame 108 Longitude -52.7 seeing goes from bad to acceptable. We give up... Twilight is approaching. This run is no good. :( Howard noted that runlog was created automatically for the 3 doghouse biases earlier tonight, but not for any of the science runs. So they were created by hand. Run 5048 onScopeBias ========================== Good bias endNight: When Howard tried to run endNight, it complained that the que was not empty. checkFrame asked if we wanted to flush the que. So we said no which kicked us out of endNight. When we checked for the que, it looked like there was nothing unusual. im> iccExec [photoList] statusDump archListQ NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found NAME ACCESS TYPE VALUE LOW HIGH DESCRIPTION ------------------ ------------- ----- -------- -------- -------- ------------------------- 0 Status entries found {id1 {}} {id2 {}} {id3 {}} {id4 {}} {id5 {}} {id6 {}} Then Atsuko tried to run endNight and encountered permission problem: im> endNight endNight: Let me ask you some questions right now. endNight: Do you want to ship tapes?
