We had one other plate (plate729) whose min. S/N^2 was 12.7. We would normally not declare this plate done, but since all plates must be unplugged for the summer shut down, we did. Steve can undeclare it if we need to redo the plate. o We had two exposures with wrong exposure time. It seeme like this is happening more often than before. o The telescope is ready for engineering. The telescope is pointing at zenith with long spectro autofill hoses connected. The corrector and cartridge are off the telescope as requested. The counter weight is al the way down. o Mike is only allowed to look at PRs. He cannot creat, edit or close PRs. We filed a PR asking Sir Robert for help on this matter. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- At 5:13Z or so, I accidentally clicked "Load" for "Save" and deleted most of what I had in the log. Luckily, things has been smooth and not much was in the log anyway. Afternoon checkout -------------------- AZ fiducial at 120.75 is not reading. Night ------- With the wind from the east, the moon and some clouds around us (and ugly looking clouds north of us), we started with spectro. Cart 4 Plate 1044 ------------------- While waiting for the sky to get dark enough to do science, Mike tested PR 3915-- our shake item. Thank you Steve, it works. We found out that Mike had no power to create, edit or close PRs. So we filed a PR asking Sir Robert to let him have the power. We did fk5 to acquire the field. Finished in three exposures despite of the variable seeing and east wind. SoS gave us the following warning. sdR-r1-00015926.fit: WARNING: Max sky-residual chi2 = 138.043 at 8627.07 Ang (ignoring 5577) Since the sky/sec number was in spec and had the same number as the r2 which did not get the above warning. So we decided not to declare the exposure bad. Frame 15927 had the wrong exposure time. Corrected to 900s. Cart 5 Plate 1051 -------------------- Guide stars found on gotoField. 15932 had wrong exposure time. Corrected to 900s. Finished in 3 exposures. Cart 7 Plate 1053 --------------------- Guide stars found on gotoField. Seeing is about 2.2". The wind has started to switch from E to NW. Although wind shift has not improved the FWHM we see on the guider, we got S/N>10 for the first science exposure! We finished this plate in 3 exposures. We took postCalib upon SoS's recommendation. Cart 9 Plate 989 ----------------- We had to look for fk5 star before finding the field. Probably because we were now pointing southernly and not northernly as we did for the last plate. We finished this plate in 3 exposures. Cart 2 Plate 717 ----------------- We found stars on gotoField. We have exposures on this plate from previous observing. We finished this plate with one exposure and a smear. Cart 3 Plate 729 ------------------ We had to do fk5 to acquire the field. The seeing has improved and the sky is now photometric. Too bad we did not have this condition earlier in the night so that we could do imaging. We took smear after the second science exposure in twilight. b1 smear came out in yellow, but others were in spec. While we waited for the S/N calculations, we took postCalib, although SoS never asked for it. After three science exposures, b1 got S/N^2 of 12.7 and b2 got S/N^2 of 12.8 while the other two got S/N^2 above 14.5 and 17.1. Since all plates has to be unplugged for the bright time, we declared the plates done. Please declare it undone if it is not good enough. We sent Steve Kent an email on this. endNight finished successfully. We took both the corrector and the cartridge off the telescope as requested. The counter weights are all the way down. The telescope is pinned and pointing at zenith. We found out that the north side of the spectro hose was the longer one that we needed on the south side to reach the spectrograph. We swapped the hoses. Then we found out that the connectors didn't quite fit and needed to be swapped, too. So we swapped them and the long hoses happily are attached to the spectrographs. We forced a fillto make sure all is well. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 22:59 15920 10.0 flat 23:02 15921 2.0 arc 02:27 15923 0.0 bias ----- sequence 15924, plate 1044 ------- 20.1 18.5 17.0 19.0 03:14 15924 10.0 flat 03:16 15925 2.0 arc 03:42 15926 1201.0 target 04:00 15927 21765.0 target --> corrected to 600s 04:18 15928 902.0 target 04:25 15929 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15930, plate 1051 ------- 17.8 16.3 15.5 14.1 04:43 15930 10.0 flat 04:46 15931 2.0 arc 05:05 15932 23237.0 target --> corrected to 600s 05:20 15933 722.0 target 05:38 15934 900.0 target 05:45 15935 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15936, plate 1053 ------- 25.0 25.5 21.4 28.5 06:05 15936 10.0 flat 06:07 15937 2.0 arc 06:32 15938 1203.0 target 06:50 15939 902.0 target 07:05 15940 722.0 target 07:12 15941 240.0 smear 07:15 15942 10.0 flat 07:17 15943 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15944, plate 989 ------- 17.2 23.3 15.9 22.5 07:39 15944 10.0 flat 07:41 15945 2.0 arc 08:00 15946 901.0 target 08:22 15947 1201.0 target 08:45 15948 1200.0 target 08:52 15949 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15950, plate 717 ------- 9.9 8.8 8.5 9.9 09:09 15950 10.0 flat + 10.2 12.6 8.7 14.7 09:11 15951 2.0 arc ----------------------- 09:35 15952 1201.0 target 20.1 21.4 17.2 24.6 09:42 15953 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15954, plate 729 ------- 12.7 14.5 12.8 17.1 09:57 15954 10.0 flat 09:59 15955 2.0 arc 10:17 15956 900.0 target 10:35 15957 900.0 target 10:42 15958 240.0 smear 10:55 15959 602.0 target 11:00 15960 10.0 flat 11:03 15961 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:20Z 4 1044 214.69 0.0002 63.99 0.0010 51.23 -0.0006 1.000020 04:53Z 5 1051 232.36 0.0003 65.78 0.0012 69.65 -0.0228 1.000020 06:10Z 7 1053 242.45 0.0007 56.29 0.0010 88.17 -0.0193 1.000020 07:38Z 9 989 39.48 0.0028 50.09 -0.0026 212.27 0.0032 1.000000 09:19Z 2 717 8.50 0.0028 48.55 -0.0026 187.18 0.0032 1.000020 09:56Z 3 729 -34.92 0.0036 64.07 0.0004 150.64 0.0032 1.000020 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5446 Stays: JL5447 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:31Z 4 1044 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 15.8 18 75 2.0 04:53Z 5 1051 1.00002 -198 756 -220 232 65.7 14.6 15 76 2.0 06:13Z 7 1053 1.00002 -198 730 -270 242 55.8 14.6 8 328 2.2 07:43Z 9 989 1.00000 0 949 -230 38 50.7 13.1 6 358 2.1 09:18Z 2 717 1.00002 -198 762 -260 9 48.5 14.9 10 45 2.1 10:09Z 3 729 1.00005 -493 477 -260 -41 62.4 14.4 12 21 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:53Z 66 45 0 236 (SW) 565 - 23:25Z 65 40 5 87 (E) 565 - 23:57Z 64 41 0 117 (ESE) 548 - 02:29Z 60 43 16 67 (ENE) 706 - 02:59Z 59 43 21 74 (ENE) 758 - 03:29Z 58 44 16 76 (ENE) 888 - 04:00Z 57 44 13 66 (ENE) 1038 - 04:31Z 57 44 15 91 (E) 1115 - 05:01Z 58 44 13 77 (ENE) 1173 - 05:40Z 59 43 10 45 (NE) 1109 - 06:12Z 58 42 8 348 (NNW) 921 - 06:44Z 57 43 2 341 (NNW) 1262 - 07:16Z 55 43 7 11 (N) 1047 - 07:46Z 57 42 4 356 (NNW) 896 - 08:17Z 56 44 0 231 (SW) 1412 - 08:48Z 58 40 10 45 (NE) 1029 - 09:18Z 59 39 4 30 (NNE) 883 - 09:49Z 57 40 9 34 (NE) 1002 - 10:20Z 58 41 10 14 (NNE) 924 - 10:50Z 58 41 12 26 (NNE) 875 - 11:22Z 56 42 10 29 (NNE) 1104 - 11:53Z 56 42 9 32 (NNE) 989 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Az, Alt slip interlock bypassed. 01:45: fans on, doors open 02:10: enclosure open 11:30: fans off, enclosure close Telescope is at zenith.
