Fiducial correction too large to correct in ALT axis, caused the problem during instrument change and during finding stars - refiducializing that axis solved the problem. Software: 2. Exposure lost, due to "false start" of a next exposure - see the problem section. --------------------- Three plates done: cart 2 plt 814, cart 4 plt 983 and cart 1 plt 986 On plate: cart 7 plt 915 we've got 11.7 signal to noise ratio and smear, maybe we'll find time to get the last exposure during shake up? Moths density per cartridge tonight: 1. :))) ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout - host rebooted, the servers didn't start on their own - we started them manualy. Spectro checkout: we got a message that the blue camera is out of focus since the mean focus was > 0.15 pix, but the error (0.29 pix) of estimating the mean focus position was > 0.15, so we left foucs unchanged. After we opened and waited a while for temperature stabilisation, we run the test again and this time b2 was in focus b1 out of focus, but with an error > 0.15 ... so we didn't change anything. 03:20Z We started 30 minutes before twilight end and went to field. Cart 1 plt 915 mounted - stars on slew. Plate not done. 05:59Z During cartridge change, we couldn't point the telescope to 90 deg. Moving it down to cross a fiducials didn't help, so we used a little hand force to be able to pin it - that worked. 06:01Z Cart 2 plt 814 mounted. No stars on slew, fk5 did not helped. We tried then to move telescope away from the current pointing to made it read some fiducials - no luck, murmur showed that fiducials corrections are too large to correct. So, we refudutialized ALT axis again (hmmm - the correction was very small < 1" ). But it worked. (25 minut lost due to the problems). Looks like we see stars in all fibers, but only for three we have fwhm calculated... focus? - We tried a small focus loop. Yep! now it's better. Plate done with 3 exposures. 07:48Z Cart 4 plt 983 mounted, a star on slew, but we couldn't figure out the rotator offset, so we cleared offsets then went for fk5, and found stars that way. Moon has gone. The seeing is around 2", 3.5m observers reported seeing around 1.4" It's very likely, that we couldn't get any usefull imaging data. We stayed with spectroscopy. Problem: Exposure lost due to... (see also problem section). 08:30Z When the reading the exposure time come, we started a new one to early (GUI showed remaining exposure time 0, so we hit doNextScience buttotn, whithout looking at the display if indeed the previous exposure was read). And normaly it should not be a problem but... Eric thinks, the new doNextScience was hit in the interval between the shutter closing and endStare running, so doNextScience actaully ran when it should not have, flushing out the previous exposure... Done with 3 exposures (we do not count the lost one). 09:55Z Cart 1 plt 986 mounted, after a short fight with the telescope 90 deg altitude pin. Stars on slew. Done with one additional exposure. endNight went ok. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3238 00:06Z 00:33Z 100 O -23.09 -16.26 55 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 15692, plate -9999 ------- 00:04 15692 0.0 bias 00:18 15693 0.0 bias ----- sequence 15694, plate 986 ------- 02:08 15694 3.0 arc 02:11 15695 3.0 arc ----- sequence 15696, plate 915 ------- 03:10 15696 3.0 arc 03:12 15697 2.0 arc 03:47 15698 10.0 flat 03:49 15699 2.0 arc 04:13 15700 1202.0 target 04:36 15701 1200.0 target 04:59 15702 23537.0 target 05:06 15703 240.0 smear 05:29 15704 1201.0 target 05:32 15705 10.0 flat 05:34 15706 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15707, plate 814 ------- 06:31 15707 10.0 flat 06:33 15708 2.0 arc 06:56 15709 1200.0 target 07:14 15710 901.0 target 07:33 15711 901.0 target 07:40 15712 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15713, plate 983 ------- 08:09 15713 10.0 flat 08:11 15714 2.0 arc 08:37 15715 467.0 target 08:55 15716 901.0 target 09:18 15717 1201.0 target 09:36 15718 901.0 target 09:42 15719 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15720, plate 986 ------- 10:06 15720 10.0 flat 10:08 15721 2.0 arc 10:32 15722 1200.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:46Z 7 915 -10.73 0.0014 54.47 -0.0002 170.93 -0.0181 1.000070 07:24Z 2 814 232.00 -0.0023 65.13 0.0028 69.91 0.0071 1.000210 08:07Z 4 983 47.87 0.0016 46.15 -0.0006 218.52 -0.0080 0.999970 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5429 Stays: JL5430 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:54Z 7 915 1.00007 -690 -34 -630 -14 54.1 19.8 15 222 gdr 2.1 07:29Z 2 814 1.00021 -2073 -949 -375 233 64.2 17.8 6 215 -/- 2.0 08:07Z 4 983 0.99997 296 1015 -425 48 46.1 18.9 6 229 -/- 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:04Z 76 24 11 259 (W) 537 - 00:35Z 75 24 10 262 (W) 577 - 01:05Z 72 22 10 272 (W) 525 - 01:36Z 72 21 7 271 (W) 559 - 02:12Z 68 17 7 263 (W) 712 - 02:44Z 67 15 9 253 (WSW) 665 - 03:14Z 66 15 10 225 (SW) 679 - 03:44Z 66 15 8 254 (WSW) 727 - 04:15Z 66 15 10 214 (SW) 789 - 04:45Z 66 14 16 218 (SW) 760 - 05:17Z 65 14 9 221 (SW) 783 - 05:48Z 65 14 8 232 (SW) 766 - 06:20Z 64 14 6 242 (WSW) 1022 - 06:54Z 65 14 8 219 (SW) 765 - 07:26Z 64 13 6 214 (SW) 882 - 07:59Z 65 14 3 210 (SSW) 786 - 08:31Z 65 14 1 223 (SW) 842 - 09:02Z 65 14 6 207 (SSW) 873 - 09:36Z 63 13 2 218 (SW) 861 - 10:08Z 63 14 3 190 (S) 823 - 10:38Z 62 14 0 113 (ESE) 960 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:30Z telescope opened, dewars refilled. 10:50Z telescope closed, hoses hooked up. ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_79_2 Watcher: v2_18_0 MCP: v5_13_0 TPM: tpm_v2_12_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: 2.6.4 sdssProcedures: v1_46 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0860 0.0860 Axial B 0.8050 0.8050 Axial C 0.0690 0.0760 Trans D -1.5240 -1.5230 Lateral E 1.8410 1.8300 Lateral F 0.0000 0.0000 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
