Three plates finished (969, 616, 984) and good data obtained for another plate (986). Problems with the imager doing lots of little fills in the morning/afternoon, the grade 2 N2 system leaking and the scissor lift in the cartridge bay and the outside manipulator arm acting flaky again. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- French had Jean test the west door today and they found no problems. The loud bang that was heard upon closing yesterday may have been a wind hook in the door engaging or disengaging. The imager dewars appeared to have the problem where they did many small fills Sunday morning/afternoon. Furthermore, the grade 2 N2 bottle that was full on Friday was empty this afternoon. The bottle was replaced (2000 psi at 2300Z). It was suggested that the imager doing many small fills is what drained the full N2 bottle so quickly but see below. The alt and az drives surfaces, fiducials and read heads had to be cleaned because we were getting no alt fiducial readings and few az fiducial readings during afternoon checkout. Cleaning solved the problem. We were able to remove the building tonight without the building interlocks overridden. When we closed last night we needed to override the interlocks to move the building. We were also able to close the building without the building interlocks overridden. Photometric at sunset but moon dictates we begin with spectroscopy. Plate 969 (cartridge 8): FK5 used to obtain guide stars but lack of guide stars on the gotoField may have due to the fact that we were way out of focus. Exposure 15666 had a bad exposure time and was fixed with apofix. The correct exposure time was 900 s. When combined with data from previous night (52441), this plate was finished in 3 exposures. Plate 616 (cartridge 6): Guide stars on the gotoField after the previous offsets were cleared. The seeing blew up (4+") at the end of the first exposure but we still managed to obtain usable data and finished this plate in 5 exposures. The scissor lift in the cartridge bay failed again. It worked when cartridge 6 was removed from the bay but did not work when we attempted to remove cartridge 3. The lift and the manipulator arm were operated in manual mode as per last night's instructions. Plate 984 (cartridge 3): Guide stars on the gotoField but they were lost due to poor seeing. Guide stars reacquired after a few minutes. When combined with the data from previous nights (52435, 52438), this plate was finished in 1 exposure. The scissor lift in the cartridge bay worked in automatic mode this time. Something is flaky in the system. Moths? Plate 986 (cartridge 1): Guide stars on the gotoField. We were unable to finish this plate before the sky became too bright but we did get good data for it. Sos did not like the smear for this plate. It was photometric all night but seeing was never good enough for imaging. A racoon was seen running away from the cat house (turtle house) and it may have been actually inside the cat house (racoon house?). A brief visual inspection showed no evidence of its presence inside but perhaps someone should do a more thorough inspection in the day light. The behavior of the scissor lift and outside manipulator arm got even stanger when we tried to put it away. The lift would operate on automatic only sporadically. The manipulator arm would move but we could not slide it along the rail. We tried to slide it in both automatic and manual mode. Relays were tripping inside the box in both automatic and manual mode. We finally killed the power and left it where it was. The arm was left in manual mode. A PR was filed. Finally, the grade 2 N2 was reading 1300 when we stowed the telescope this morning. This means we used about 1/3 of the bottle in 12 hours time. When the cylinder was swapped, the regulator was "snooped" and no leaks were seen. The imager dewars filled as expected tonight (about 40 lbs every 4 hours) so this did not cause the cylinder to drain rapidly. Perhaps a leak in this grade 2 N2 system caused the imager dewar fill problem yesterday (not vice versa). ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3237 23:41Z 00:04Z 100 O -30.51 -24.75 52 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 15661, plate -9999 ------- 23:20 15661 0.0 bias 23:33 15662 0.0 bias 00:28 15663 0.0 bias ----- sequence 15664, plate 969 ------- 13.2 15.3 12.1 14.8 tonight 03:32 15664 10.0 flat 7.0 7.0 6.3 7.3 52441 03:34 15665 2.0 arc ------------------- 03:53 15666 900.0 target 20.2 22.3 18.4 22.1 DONE 04:16 15667 1202.0 target 04:23 15668 240.0 smear 04:43 15669 900.0 target ----- sequence 15670, plate 616 ------- 17.0 15.5 16.6 14.2 DONE 04:59 15670 10.0 flat 05:01 15671 2.0 arc 05:26 15672 1201.0 target 06:08 15673 1201.0 target 06:31 15674 1200.0 target 07:04 15675 1200.0 target 07:33 15676 1501.0 target 07:41 15677 240.0 smear 07:44 15678 10.0 flat 07:46 15679 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15680, plate 984 ------- 4.9 3.5 4.7 4.4 tonight 08:16 15680 10.0 flat 4.2 4.0 3.9 5.6 52435 08:18 15681 2.0 arc 8.3 8.1 7.7 10.3 52438 08:41 15682 1200.0 target ------------------- 08:48 15683 240.0 smear 17.4 15.6 16.3 20.3 DONE ----- sequence 15684, plate 986 ------- 18.1 11.6 17.3 17.2 tonight 09:08 15684 10.0 flat 09:10 15685 2.0 arc 09:33 15686 1200.0 target 10:07 15687 1200.0 target 10:13 15688 240.0 smear 10:37 15689 1201.0 target 10:40 15690 10.0 flat 10:42 15691 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:31Z 8 969 223.75 0.0004 61.49 0.0031 64.63 -0.0201 1.000160 05:11Z 6 616 184.08 -0.0027 68.44 0.0004 5.90 -0.0056 1.000080 08:29Z 3 984 44.33 0.0014 47.94 -0.0012 215.93 0.0026 1.000030 09:06Z 1 986 37.33 0.0015 50.96 -0.0016 210.61 -0.0051 0.999930 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5426 Stays: JL5427 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:30Z 8 969 1.00016 -1579 -609 -450 224 61.6 19.3 10 179 ---- 1.85 05:11Z 6 616 1.00008 -789 30 -450 184 68.4 17.4 15 165 ---- 2.3 08:30Z 3 984 1.00003 -295 493 -450 44 48.0 19.1 7 278 ---- 2.0 09:06Z 1 986 0.99993 690 1301 -450 37 51.0 18.6 6 290 ---- 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:11Z 76 21 11 237 (WSW) 585 - clear 23:42Z 73 22 15 279 (W) 590 - clear 00:14Z 77 23 10 250 (WSW) 746 - clear 00:47Z 73 21 6 298 (WNW) 726 - clear 01:19Z 72 21 5 236 (SW) 817 - clear 01:51Z 69 17 6 207 (SSW) 780 - clear 02:23Z 66 14 7 190 (S) 745 - clear 02:55Z 66 16 12 181 (S) 888 - clear 03:25Z 66 17 12 180 (S) 880 - clear 03:56Z 67 17 12 177 (S) 877 - clear 04:28Z 66 17 15 193 (SSW) 800 - clear 05:00Z 65 18 10 163 (SSE) 967 - clear 05:32Z 62 27 16 178 (S) 1203 - clear 06:02Z 63 24 12 178 (S) 1943 - clear 06:33Z 62 27 11 157 (SSE) 2655 - clear 07:05Z 59 33 6 104 (ESE) 1837 - clear 07:37Z 61 29 4 90 (E) 1978 - clear 08:08Z 63 21 4 3 (N) 1721 - clear 08:38Z 66 16 6 301 (WNW) 1145 - clear 09:10Z 65 17 7 280 (W) 1287 - clear 09:40Z 64 14 3 324 (NW) 819 - clear 10:11Z 64 14 6 355 (NNW) 1133 - clear 10:41Z 63 15 11 26 (NNE) 1075 - clear 11:11Z 63 12 6 4 (N) 837 - clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:30 Doors open, fans on 02:30 Enclosure off 10:45 Enclosure on, doors closed, fans off.
