Pesky clouds prevented us from getting more. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Spectrographs were slightly out of focus during the afternoon check ( .2 pix ), so Atusko tweaked focus ( mechPiston 2000 ). See problems section for details. We have louvers in the lower enclosure west wall now. They are manually operated and should be open when the exhaust fan is on. They also serve as effective moth attractors. Too bad we can't get at the moths or at least open the screen and let them out of the enclosure. 02:37Z Cartridge 8 965 16.9 17.3 15.6 20.1 No stars on slew ( still bright ). No FK5 visible either. Spiral pattern found it some 10 arcseconds away ( error mostly in altitude ). First science exposure started when it was still a bit too bright, so it was declared bad with APOFIX. Note that SoS still adds the signal from the "bad" science exposure even after being redone. A PR has been filed. 04:44Z Cartridge 6 790 15.1 19.9 11.4 14.9 Guide stars on the slew. First two exposures had lots of signal. Third exposure ran into clouds. Not all cameras had sufficient signal. Fourth one no good either. 05:39Z -07:40Z Clouds thick enough to prevent science. 07:15Z Clouds thinning some. Decide to move on to cartridge 2 as 6 has gone beyond its observing limit. 07:27Z Cartridge 2 820 25.9 33.6 26.0 26.4 ( in three exposures! ) Guide stars on the slew ( when not blocked by clouds ). Skies improved during the first exposure, yielding a surprisingly high signal-to-noise given the rather average guider efficiency. Since it was started with a longish exposure time and we are trying to keep exposures roughly equal on a plate, we took longer exposures than were needed to simply finish the plate. 09:15Z Cartridge 3 984 8.3 8.1 7.7 10.3 3.9 3.8 4.3 4.5 --------------------- 12.2 11.9 12.0 14.8 Had to clear offsets to see guide stars. Just missed finishing this plate before exceeding the UTmax. We did however manage to get a good smear, so all that's needed is one more exposure. For those keeping score at home....
