Support: Connie Rockosi - by phone Eric Neilsen - by phone ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown - Night 2 ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A successful shakedown. All test versions of the software were declared current for the dark run. We also completed one plate left over from the last dark run. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: ------ Three problems noted. 1) counterweight 2 (NE) made a squealing noise when moving. The noise only lasted for a second. Ask Jurek for a demonstration of the noise. 2) Altitude drive showed high voltage for a second or two at an alt of ~46 deg. Is it real? See the problem section for details. 3) Connie changed the imager fill time interval to 45 minutes to stop the critical error messages. In her words: " The recent increase in the number of ln2 empty errors from the imager turns out to be happening for exactly the correct reason; dewar 2 is going empty a little too soon and its ln2temp is right near the error threshold at the end of the currect fill interval. There is no sign of any terrible vacuum problem, so the fill is probably shutting off too soon for dewar 2. To get rid of the continuous string of critical errors I have (after talking with Steph) set the fill interval to be 45 minutes, which should get us through until the summer shutdown. This change will remain in effect until the micros are next rebooted. If they are rebooted, and for future reference, the commands to do this are: cc stopfillseq cc 45 setfilltime the response to which is SETTING TIME BETWEEN FILLS TO BE 45 MINUTES cc startfillseq then you can do a cc ln2stat and look at the value of FILLTIME to see that all is well." Night: ------ Software versions: ------------------ The following were declared current at the end of the night. The whiteboard was updated. IOP/SOP - v3_79_2 Watcher - v2_18_0 TPM - tpm_v2_12_0 MCP - v5_13_0 PRs addressed: -------------- 3372 - Closed. Offset commands to TCC are now seen from the guider data window with the right number of sig figs. 3463 - Changed state to feedback. Eric and David, we guided on plate 690. If you would check the guiderMon file, please close the PR if all is well. 3191 - state changed back to assigned (to Eric). tccPutandWait now works from within smear, after Eric worked on it. Still, this is a workaround, so we didn't close the PR. IOP v3_79_2 contains the code change. Using this version 12 smears were run starting at 08:05Z. They all appeared to complete normally. 3729 - state changed to feedback. The requested tests were performed during May shake-up. The shake-up night log info was added to the PR. Other tasks: ------------ Guider gain: ------------ We spent a fair amount of time on the guider gain. We set the gain to 5 e-/ADU and 20 e-/ADU using "setcam n" after hosting to the guider cam. The Guider images with and without stars were saved to jeg's directory on landru in a directory called guidergain. Here is a summary of the image information. The images with no guide stars were taken after moving the telescope 15 asec to get the stars off the fibers: Cartridge 2, plate 960 - Conditions photometric with no moon image Gain Comments (e-/ADU) gimg0390.fits 20 with guide stars. 10 s exposure gimg0395.fits 20 no stars. 10 s exposure gimg0399.fits 5 no stars. 10 s exposure gimg0402.fits 5 with guide stars. 10 s exposure We also tried to change the efficiency meter so that it scaled properly to the higher gain setting. In guiderMon.tcl line 4697: set gCounts [pow 10 [expr 0.4 * (20.8 - $gFiber($i,mag,1))]] the value 20.8 was changed to 22.3, and this scales the efficiency meter properly to the higher gain. However, any increase in the sky appeared to be buried in the noise. At this point, we do not plan to check in the changes to the efficiency meter or run with the higher gain this dark run. If there is a command decision from on high that counters this, we will check in the changes. SoS - Reversed order of first exposure & pre-calib. Can SoS handle this? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The short answer is that we can do this. Run sos_redo for the first science exposure after the flat and arc have been scp'd to sos. All subsequent science exposures will be scp'd to sos and reduced without intervention. There is one slight modification to the posted instructions. Since we use the observer account on sos, but run SOP from our own accounts on 'host, you must ssh as observer, i.e. sp1> ssh observer@sos.apo.nmsu.edu sos_redo expnum=15343 observer@sos.apo.nmsu.edu's password: Guider "Flexure" (Flop) tests: ----------------------------- Slewed to 121,30 with cartridge 2 still mounted. We mounted cartridge 5 and went to 121, 30. The guider images are all on Landru in /home/jeg/Data/guiderflat52425 The readme file is jim_test. A PR was filed. High voltage to altitude drive: ------------------------------- When slewing down in altitude, at an alt=46 deg (approx.) we saw a momentary spike in the voltage to -9784 twice. Once, it caused the amps to drop out of closed loop, the other time it did not. It is not clear if this is a real voltage spike, indicating increased mechanical resistance at that altitude, or if we are getting a garbled voltage value at the MCP. A PR was filed.
