Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 11:34:28 GMT From: harvanek@apo.nmsu.edu (Mike Harvanek) Subject: 2.5m obslog 20020518 (MJD 52413) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday May 18, 2002 (MJD 52413) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Miguel Harvanekimenez (APO) Estephania Sneddenalez (APO) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Three plates finished (970, 926, 976) and usable data obtained for another plate (960). A few xsigma and wsigma values were in the yellow but none were red. No problems tonight. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Clouds and moon at the beginning of the evening dictate spectroscopy. Dust delays removal of the enclosure by 0.5 hr. Plate 970 (cartridge 5): FK5 needed (last night's offsets were NOT cleared) but guide stars found easily after that. Done in 3 exposures. SoS asked for postcals after the 1st! science exposure. The 2nd exposure (15227) had a bad exposure time which was fixed with APOFIX. Plate 960 (cartridge 2): Guide stars on the gotoField. Lots of clouds. Of the 4 exposures taken, only 1 had s/n^2 > 2 for all 4 cameras. One exposure had s/n^2 < 2 for all 4 cameras and was declared bad. No smear obtained for this plate due to poor sky conditions. Plate 926 (cartridge 8): Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (52412), this plate was finished in 1 exposure. Plate 976 (cartridge 6): Guide stars on the gotoField. When combined with previous data (52411), this plate was finished in 3 exposures. This plate has bonus s/n^2 because by the time we reached s/n^2 of 15 we didn't have time to finish another plate. Since this is the end of the dark run, it is likely that if we started another plate without completing it, the plate would be unplugged before it could be declared done and that data would be lost. So, we elected to get some bonus s/n on this plate. A few xsigma and wsigma values were in the yellow but none were red. No problems tonight. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3199 23:57Z 00:14Z 100 O -55.07 -50.75 43 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 15221, plate -9999 ------- 23:57 15221 0.0 bias 00:35 15222 0.0 bias 00:48 15223 0.0 bias ----- sequence 15224, plate 970 ------- 17.1 13.8 18.3 18.9 DONE 03:13 15224 10.0 flat 03:15 15225 2.0 arc 03:41 15226 1201.0 target 04:04 15227 22065.0 target exp. time = 1200s 04:33 15228 1500.0 target 04:40 15229 240.0 smear 04:43 15230 10.0 flat 04:45 15231 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15232, plate 960 ------- 9.5 7.2 11.1 2.4 04:59 15232 10.0 flat 05:01 15233 2.0 arc 05:26 15234 1200.0 target 05:53 15235 1503.0 target declared bad 06:57 15236 1503.0 target 07:20 15237 1200.0 target 07:24 15238 10.0 flat 07:26 15239 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15240, plate 926 ------- 6.9 5.3 5.8 4.4 tonight 07:52 15240 10.0 flat 13.6 14.6 12.3 13.2 52412 07:54 15241 2.0 arc ------------------- 08:27 15242 1800.0 target 20.5 19.9 18.1 17.6 DONE 08:34 15243 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15244, plate 976 ------- 22.9 19.6 24.3 22.6 tonight 08:55 15244 10.0 flat 5.5 6.6 5.9 7.5 52411 08:57 15245 2.0 arc ------------------- 09:27 15246 1501.0 target 28.4 26.2 30.2 30.1 DONE 09:54 15247 1500.0 target 10:01 15248 240.0 smear 10:31 15249 1501.0 target 10:33 15250 10.0 flat 10:35 15251 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:19Z 5 970 172.63 -0.0033 72.56 0.0007 -9.65 -0.0315 1.000170 05:05Z 2 960 182.79 0.0002 64.20 0.0000 4.55 -0.0023 1.000100 07:57Z 8 926 -25.49 0.0016 52.79 -0.0004 158.72 -0.0212 1.000000 09:01Z 6 976 272.21 -0.0039 82.43 0.0017 96.98 0.0262 1.000040 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5351 Stays: JL5352 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:19Z 5 970 1.00017 -1678 -362 -100 173 72.6 10.6 12 123 --- 1.6 04:15Z 5 970 1.00013 -1283 -83 -150 201 71.0 12.1 16 131 --- 2.0 05:04Z 2 960 1.00010 -986 175 -150 183 64.2 11.6 18 137 --- 1.8 07:12Z 2 960 1.00010 -986 197 -150 211 55.5 10.5 17 124 --- 1.9 07:57Z 8 926 1.00000 0 1022 -150 -25 52.9 9.4 16 133 --- 1.8 09:02Z 6 976 1.00004 -394 690 -100 272 82.3 9.1 16 141 --- 1.8 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:42Z 58 35 4 88 (E) 1365 - pcl 00:15Z 58 34 2 95 (E) 1384 - pcl 00:46Z 57 34 13 200 (SSW) 1926 - pcl 01:19Z 55 36 12 150 (SSE) 2383 - pcl 01:51Z 53 36 16 120 (ESE) 2118 - pcl 02:23Z 51 36 12 88 (E) 1898 - pcl 02:55Z 50 36 13 114 (ESE) 2005 - pcl 03:27Z 50 31 14 126 (SE) 1921 - pcl 03:58Z 53 21 14 126 (SE) 1505 - pcl 04:28Z 53 19 14 134 (SE) 1439 - pcl 05:00Z 52 25 17 133 (SE) 1528 - pcl 05:30Z 53 17 17 127 (SE) 1241 - pcl 06:00Z 51 27 19 127 (SE) 1447 - mcl 06:31Z 50 28 19 125 (SE) 1455 - pcl 07:02Z 50 30 15 123 (ESE) 1451 - pcl 07:33Z 50 32 15 119 (ESE) 1649 - mcl 08:05Z 48 38 18 125 (SE) 1560 - pcl 08:39Z 48 39 15 137 (SE) 1325 - pcl 09:10Z 48 41 16 148 (SSE) 1376 - mcl 09:40Z 49 39 13 150 (SSE) 1437 - pcl 10:10Z 50 35 14 173 (S) 1286 - pcl 10:42Z 49 35 11 186 (S) 902 - mcl 11:15Z 48 35 10 180 (S) 1006 - mcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 02:30 Doors open, fans on 02:35 Enclosure off 10:45 Enclosure on, doors closed, fans off.
