Delaware) Atsuko Nittakalova Jurek Krzeshgsgrknjhhfgjfdkainski and the gourmet night regulars *According to Stashek, this is the correct spelling ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science, following the standard strategies. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Another battle to collect photons through variable cloud cover. Five plates observed, with 2 declared done. Decent signal obtained on the other three. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: Afternoon checkout went without problems, except we noticed that the LN2 autofill for spectrograph 1 had been switched to manual fill mode. We re-enabled the auto mode. A check of spectro focus was made. All 4 cameras were in spec. No adjustments made. Night shift: Mostly cloudy at sunset again (grumble, grumble). First up: cartridge 5, plate 947. At the end of twilight we were able to see the guide stars, barely, so focused. We couldn't declare this one done because of clouds, but did get some useful signal when sucker holes opened. 06:08Z Cartridge 2, plate 958. On removing cartridge 5 to mount this one we ran into a problem with the latch to cartridge 2's black side cover. See problems section. Stars acquired in guider immediately. Plate declared done after 4 exposures totaling 75 minutes. 06:43Z The 3:00 petal closed under high wind conditions. It reopened okay. 08:11Z Cartridge 9, plate 925. Guide stars found on going to the field. We could not declare this one done, but got some usable signal. 09:45Z Cartridge 6, plate 977. Guide stars found immediately on the slew to the field. This plate already had been observed, so only one 20 minute exposure was needed to declare it done. 10:30Z Cartridge 1, plate 975. Guide stars found right away. Only one 15 minute exposure could be taken before morning twilight started, but it had good S/N. EndNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 15127, plate -9999 ------- 01:09 15127 0.0 bias 01:14 15128 0.0 bias 01:44 15129 0.0 bias ----- sequence 15129, plate 947 ------- 15.2 8.3 13.6 10.0 03:36 15130 10.0 flat 03:38 15131 2.0 arc 04:09 15132 22365.0 target 04:39 15133 1502.0 target 05:30 15134 1500.0 target 05:38 15135 240.0 smear 05:41 15136 10.0 flat 05:43 15137 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15138, plate 958 ------- 18.9 12.9 18.6 13.4 06:09 15138 10.0 flat 06:11 15139 2.0 arc 06:30 15140 901.0 target 06:53 15141 902.0 target 07:11 15142 901.0 target 07:43 15143 1803.0 target 07:51 15144 240.0 smear 07:55 15145 10.0 flat 07:57 15146 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15147, plate 925 ------- 6.8 6.3 4.0 7.0 08:11 15147 10.0 flat 08:13 15148 2.0 arc 08:37 15149 1202.0 target 09:00 15150 1201.0 target 09:23 15151 1201.0 target 09:26 15152 10.0 flat 09:28 15153 2.0 arc ----- sequence 15154, plate 977 ------- 09:47 15154 10.0 flat 09:49 15155 2.0 arc 10:13 15156 1201.0 target 10:20 15157 240.0 smear ----- sequence 15158, plate 975 ------- 10:34 15158 10.0 flat 10:37 15159 2.0 arc 10:55 15160 900.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:34Z 5 947 207.12 0.0014 60.72 0.0026 44.66 -0.0250 1.000150 06:19Z 2 958 204.34 0.0017 58.60 0.0009 43.01 -0.0065 1.000150 08:15Z 9 925 -30.92 0.0017 51.25 0.0003 154.34 -0.0141 1.000110 10:03Z 6 977 276.45 0.0033 71.87 0.0010 107.11 -0.0149 1.000030 10:40Z 1 975 266.24 0.0016 63.55 0.0005 102.82 -0.0063 1.000080 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL5344 Stays: JL5345 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:34Z 5 947 1.00015 -1480 -276 -200 207 60.7 14.0 23 266 - 1.7 04:01Z 5 947 1.00015 -1480 -288 -220 212 57.8 13.6 19 258 - 1.6 06:19Z 2 958 1.00015 -1480 -260 -190 204 58.6 12.3 26 274 - 1.7 08:24Z 9 925 1.00011 -1085 131 -150 -34 50.2 11.2 18 274 - 1.8 09:02Z 9 925 1.00011 -1085 118 -180 -46 45.1 11.0 12 268 - 2.0 10:03Z 6 977 1.00003 -295 753 -130 276 71.9 10.3 11 273 - 1.7 10:40Z 1 975 1.00008 -789 360 -130 266 63.4 10.5 7 288 - 2.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:08Z 60 8 14 265 (W) 997 - pcl 01:39Z 58 10 17 243 (WSW) 1114 - pcl 02:11Z 57 12 18 270 (W) 1329 - pcl 02:44Z 57 14 17 267 (W) 1321 - pcl 03:16Z 57 14 15 267 (W) 1444 - pcl 03:47Z 57 13 15 256 (WSW) 1326 - mcl 04:17Z 55 14 16 263 (W) 1437 - mcl 04:48Z 55 14 16 269 (W) 1164 - mcl 05:21Z 55 14 16 262 (W) 1110 - mcl 05:53Z 55 16 21 263 (W) 1139 - mcl 06:24Z 54 16 16 271 (W) 1136 - mcl 06:54Z 53 15 22 271 (W) 1301 - mcl 07:25Z 52 15 10 267 (W) 1279 - mcl 07:57Z 52 15 24 271 (W) 1200 - mcl 08:30Z 51 15 11 268 (W) 1343 - pcl 09:02Z 51 14 12 268 (W) 1277 - pcl 09:32Z 51 14 9 266 (W) 1276 - pcl 10:02Z 50 14 9 263 (W) 1379 - pcl 10:32Z 50 13 8 272 (W) 1358 - pcl 11:03Z 50 12 12 302 (WNW) 1225 - pcl ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:00Z: Fans & blower on. It caught on the spindle to the kinematic mount latch of cartridge 5 as we were raising it off the cart. The latch is now bent and the cover is somewhat warped. It should be replaced. A visual inspection of cartridge 5's latch showed no damage. A PR was filed. Flat field petal closed during wind gust: ---------------------------------------- The flat field petal at the 03:00 position closed on us in the middle of an exposure during a wind gust. It was on the prevailing wind side of the telescope at the time. The wind gust was 33 mph...just under the closure limit. A PR was filed. Maybe the switch should be checked anyway.
