Generally successful, certainly regarding the new time format. One plate done (7 581). ****Critical High PR (3470 ) filed against SOP regarding guiding**** Astroline test data taken in series of imaging runs. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Software state as a result of shakeup. IOP v3_72_2 declared current Astroda v14_44 declared current Watcher v2_16_0 declared current TPM v2_5_3 not declared current, but is running on the boards. Procedures v1_41 latest MCP v5_10_0 continues with same version as during last run ( new version has been cut for test in shakedown ) MOP v2_13_0 Is still test ( Eric tested it last night during the non-photometric conditions and is happy with it, but waits for someone else to test it before declaring it current. This should be done during some non-photometric time in the next dark run. =========================================================================== PR summary: No PR: The big change was the time format throughout the *OPs. The change seems to be successful in terms of not breaking anything. Observing was done with no problems related to the changes. 3221: oldMurmur.tar should be removed Still there. Back to assigned. 3373: guiderDataWindow has no exit button It does now and works. Closed. 3011: guider probe geometry to TCC The data gets to the TCC and is apparently in the inst block, but there are still problems applying the correction. Back to assigned. 3174: SOP frame number/header number out of sync on DA reboot. Still happens. Back to assigned. 3043: sopGUI button for guiderDataWindow It's got one. "He says they already got one" 3101, 3159, 3113: These cover the quartile problem in astroline. State not changed, but preliminary evidence from tonight's scans seem to indicate it is working. =========================================================================== This afternoon we ran a test of the slithead doors similar to the test of the latches yesterday. We found that the same behavior is exhibited as with the latches, namely that if the state is changed with the latch panel, the mcp can't change the state until the current is asserted from the Menu. While less critical to science, the potential confusion caused by using the latch panel, could conceivably cause someone to damage the doors if the assumption was made for instance, that instrumentChange had actually opened the doors. We should probably make it a point not to use the panel for the doors either. =========================================================================== murmur server restart problem im> cleanupMurmur Stopping murmur server /astrolog/astroda.v14_44.log does not exist, not attempting to delete it Restarting the murmur server Error: Failed to restart murmur server It actually does restart the server but gets and error from dscRun which fools it into thinking it didn't work. cleanupMurmur modified to complain but not quit if it gets an error from dscRun. It will continue on and check to see if indeed the murmur server was restarted. This change results in a new iop v3_72_1 Until the DA error is fixed this is what you will see when you cleanupMurmur Stopping murmur server The following processes are using files in /astrolog 4795181 neilsen tail -f /astrolog/iop.murmur.log /astrolog/astroda.v14_44.log does not exist, not attempting to delete it Restarting the murmur server Command to restart murmur server returned with an error! It may have failed. Trying to ensure the murmur log exists The murmur log now exists Creating link to /astrolog/iop.murmur.log from /astrolog/astroda.v14_44.log Link created Cleaning semaphores Removing all of neilsen's IPC message queues, shared memories, and semaphores =========================================================================== 3174: SOP frame number/header number out of sync on DA reboot. First attempt at spectro exposure after switching to new DA sp1> goStare -init -bias Error: Invalid state for this command Status entry is read-only Second attempt worked. ( note that this happened after both times we rebooted ) We also found that the sequence number on the first frame taken after reboot is still wrong, but only half wrong. The sp1 frames are correct. The sp2 frames are out of sync ( name 1 higher than header number ). The next frame taken is properly caught and corrected in sop. Could it be that the error seen on the first goStare after reboot confuses the sequence? =========================================================================== We installed the new TPM and started a new client. The humidity section shows up in the client, but is blank. It does show that TPM version v2_5_3 is running. Is this what we are supposed to see at this point? Is the humidity sensor actually running? =========================================================================== Watcher (v2_16_0) appears to have all times in proper UT format From Eric: Getting the new watcher installed on sdss-commish was a little interesting. We could not check it out to commish using CVS, and I resorted to checking it out on 'host and copying it over before makeing it. Somewhere in declaring it, I also managed to confuse things. It was easy enough find out what was wrong (UPS_DIR was not set properply in v2_16_0.version) and fix by editing the ups version file directly, but I don't understand how it got into the corrupt state to begin with. =========================================================================== MCP Menu (v5_10_0) is now showing the time in the proper UT format. =========================================================================== PR 3011 informTCCOfGProbes: Wouldn't run at first. Added TCC to global variables. We verified that the data is being written to the spectro instrument block Tried track/pterr=noobj with the guide probe set to fiber 10, and the TCC stopped short of taking an exposure We found that xcen in the instrument block is a factor of 10 greater than that in sop, so the TCC won't take a guider frame since it knows in advance that the desired center is off the chip. Eric found a typo and corrected it. Spectro instrument block now has the same values as those in sop. See Problems section for instrument block excerpt. Spectro instrument block now has the same info as gFiber in sop. We can now approximately put an FK5 star in the prerrprobe fiber, but we can't get track/pterr to correct. 0 0 I GPFindStar=10 0 0 I GCamCmd="doread 2.00 2 2 264.0 121.5 53.0 53.0" 0 0 I TCCStatus="TTT","NNY"; TCCPos=9.74,60.53,188.16; AxePos=9.74,60.53,188.16 0 0 I AxisErrCode="OK","OK","OK" 0 0 I SpiderInstAng = 8.199187, -0.007043, 4523576319.16000 0 0 I GCamReply='Exposure sequence failed; ppk error: Error code = 81' 0 0 I GCamCmd="findstars 1 264.0 121.5 53.0 53.0 4.7 4.7" 0 0 F Text="could not interpret guide camera reply" 0 0 I GCamReply='no pixels in star search region' 0 5 W Text="failed to measure pointing error" 0 5 : Text="pointing error sequence finished" Not sure why this is failing. What is error code 81. The frame exists and the requested region lies on the chip. Another problem is that when we are centered up on the guide stars, issue a sticky to covert the object offsets to calibration, then issue a track/pterr=(noobj,nocor) the FK5 star is about 8 arcseconds from the center of the field. However when we have the same starting conditions of centered guide stars and issue fk5InFiber, the FK5 star shows up bang in the middle of fiber 10. If the spectro instrument block has the same info in it as sop's gFiber array, why is there any difference in position for the FK5 star on the two slews? =========================================================================== Tonight's observing: Cartridge 9 574: No guide stars on slew, FK5 required. The minimum signal was 9.3 and we took enough exposures while shaking to add about 11 to that which we thought would make the plate done until we found later that the plate was replugged today and we were not told, nor had we asked for it to be. So tonight's data is not combinable with previous nights and 11s are not enough to declare the plate done. :( 05:30Z Cartridge 7 581: 15.8 28.7 22.2 29.0 Guide stars on slew. Guiding was terrible, so first exposure is bad. It was using less than half the fibers to guide. See problem section for details. The next bit of bad news is that when we looked at the plug map file being used we saw it was generated today which means that all previous data on this plate is not combinable with tonight's. It's a pity, because we were only an (S/N)^2 of 2 away from being done. We took enough exposures tonight to declare it done on tonight's data alone. 08:37Z We put the imager on for astroline testing 3063 15 N: -5 to 9.5 Heart of the virgo cluster to see what astroline will do. Moon still up, cirrus around. 3064 15 S: -3 to 9.5 Filling in the stripe. Moon down, but some thin cirrus around. Seeing good 3065 34 N: 44.8 to 48.2 M13 goes down dewar 4. Even brighter than the galaxies in virgo, and astroline seems unfazed. 3066 not a stripe: We send Arcturus down dewar 4. In about the harshest test we can imagine, astroline seems to recover after a couple frames. 3067: Bias 11:40Z We take the imager off and put a cartridge back on and put the telescope away. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3062 00:20Z 00:29Z 100 O -105.50 -103.24 28 ignore 3063 09:02Z 09:59Z 15 N -5.00 9.64 109 engineering 3064 10:00Z 10:50Z 15 N -2.80 9.60 96 engineering 3065 10:54Z 11:07Z 34 N 44.77 48.19 37 engineering 3066 11:12Z 11:29Z 34 N -10184.00 36.10 43 engineering 3067 11:31Z 11:47Z 100 O 62.75 66.90 42 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 3063 48 4 1 0.000 0.000 1079.800 0.000 -0.18418 3064 37 4 2 3.200 0.000 4.400 0.000 -0.06232 3064 71 4 3 -24.300 0.821 9.900 0.507 0.02493 3065 15 4 67 6.200 0.113 15.000 0.107 -0.02453 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- 3063 58 1 12 0.137 0.231 4.863 4.865 -0.01635 3063 58 1 11 0.505 0.541 4.767 4.768 -0.01603 3063 58 1 15 0.427 0.444 4.606 4.608 -0.01549 3063 58 1 21 0.509 0.527 4.591 4.594 -0.01544 3063 58 1 12 0.478 0.495 4.525 4.527 -0.01521 3064 46 1 18 -1.200 1.222 4.757 4.761 -0.01599 3064 46 1 12 -0.763 0.793 4.655 4.657 -0.01565 3064 46 1 17 -0.503 0.546 4.421 4.424 -0.01486 3064 46 1 19 -0.299 0.347 4.457 4.460 -0.01499 3064 46 1 10 0.011 0.217 4.437 4.442 -0.01492 3064 77 1 11 -1.118 1.131 4.483 4.487 -0.01507 3064 77 1 13 -0.664 0.683 4.560 4.567 -0.01533 3064 77 1 21 -0.334 0.354 4.578 4.593 -0.01539 3064 77 1 8 -0.001 0.091 4.650 4.663 -0.01563 3064 77 1 9 0.385 0.425 4.804 4.826 -0.01615 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 13988, plate -9999 ------- 00:24 13988 0.0 bias ----- sequence 13989, plate 574 ------- 8.3 10.1 10.9 10.9 02:30 13990 10.0 flat 17.3 17.1 16.7 9.3 (52355+54)* 02:32 13991 2.0 arc ------------------- 03:05 13992 10.0 flat 25.6 27.2 27.6 20.2 03:07 13993 2.0 arc 03:29 13994 901.0 target 04:00 13995 1200.0 target 04:22 13996 1201.0 target 04:30 13997 240.0 smear 04:33 13998 10.0 flat 04:35 13999 2.0 arc ----- sequence 14000, plate -9999 ------- 05:14 14000 0.0 bias 05:19 14002 0.0 bias ----- sequence 14003, plate 581 ------- 15.8 28.7 22.2 29.0 05:52 14003 10.0 flat 15.6 11.7 20.1 19.4 (52354+53)* 05:54 14004 2.0 arc ------------------- 06:18 14005 1200.0 target 31.4 40.4 42.3 48.4 06:51 14006 1200.0 target 07:14 14007 1201.0 target 07:37 14008 1201.0 target 07:59 14009 1201.0 target 08:22 14010 1200.0 target 08:29 14011 240.0 smear 08:33 14012 10.0 flat 08:35 14013 2.0 arc *May not be combinable with tonight ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:29Z 9 574 62.85 0.0043 41.45 0.0035 228.54 -0.0048 1.000390 03:13Z 9 574 51.66 0.0034 49.35 0.0032 221.35 -0.0074 1.000200 07:33Z 7 581 -39.87 0.0048 55.55 0.0024 147.21 0.0109 1.000050 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- endNight rejoiced Goes: JL5158-63,72 Stays: JL5164-69,73 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:29Z 9 574 1.00039 -3850 -1927 50 63 41.5 6.8 13 265 - Eric checked to see what exactly "fibers used" was listing, and indeed it turns out that those are the only fibers used in guiding. The reason that the "fibers used" list is smaller than the "good" fibers is that there is a limit to the rotation value for the fiber in the guiding code. The condition is that if the rotation value ( gFiber(gprobe, fiber#,rot) ) is less than -360 the fiber is not used for guiding. There were 6 fibers on plate 581 ( using plug map file 0581-52356-01 ) which had rotation values between -419 and -463. This caused them to be rejected from guiding and made for very poor guiding since the "fibers used" were all in the top half of the plate. Eric added a line to the running version ( in findGuideErrors ) to add 360 to any rotation value under -360. When this was done all fibers were used for guiding and it worked beautifully. If the purpose of the -360 limit was to keep fibers with no rotation calculations from being used ( I think it was set to -720 if it couldn't figure it out way back when we used a series of offsets to determine the rotation during setup in the pre-ferrule days ), we should change this because the -400ish values are clearly valid. Maybe the plate drilling/mapping which goes on these days can come up with values less than -360 which are fine. This really needs to be addressed quickly. It is a major efficiency hit and in extreme cases makes plates unobservable. Below is the list of gFiber parameters for plate 581 during the guiding difficulty. gFiber(gprobe,11,xcen) = 676.72 gFiber(gprobe,11,xmax) = 729.75999999999999 gFiber(gprobe,11,xmin) = 623.68000000000006 gFiber(gprobe,11,xpos) = 0.46048235860055559 gFiber(gprobe,11,ycen) = 452.34 gFiber(gprobe,11,ymax) = 505.38 gFiber(gprobe,11,ymin) = 399.29999999999995 gFiber(gprobe,11,ypos) = -0.30999921550866666 gFiber(gprobe,2,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,2,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,2,rot) = -423.42911854819999 gFiber(gprobe,2,xcen) = 155.55 gFiber(gprobe,2,xmax) = 187.40000000000001 gFiber(gprobe,2,xmin) = 123.70000000000002 gFiber(gprobe,2,xpos) = 0.13946434823444445 gFiber(gprobe,2,ycen) = 314.80 gFiber(gprobe,2,ymax) = 346.65000000000003 gFiber(gprobe,2,ymin) = 282.94999999999999 gFiber(gprobe,2,ypos) = -0.902660973911111 gFiber(gprobe,3,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,3,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,3,rot) = -463.42000076639999 gFiber(gprobe,3,xcen) = 159.73 gFiber(gprobe,3,xmax) = 191.57999999999998 gFiber(gprobe,3,xmin) = 127.88 gFiber(gprobe,3,xpos) = -0.66618864169944447 gFiber(gprobe,3,ycen) = 168.76 gFiber(gprobe,3,ymax) = 200.60999999999999 gFiber(gprobe,3,ymin) = 136.91 gFiber(gprobe,3,ypos) = -1.1611602315366667 gFiber(gprobe,4,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,4,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,4,rot) = -421.90345128189995 gFiber(gprobe,4,xcen) = 262.94 gFiber(gprobe,4,xmax) = 294.79000000000002 gFiber(gprobe,4,xmin) = 231.09 gFiber(gprobe,4,xpos) = -0.87749129460777786 gFiber(gprobe,4,ycen) = 461.88 gFiber(gprobe,4,ymax) = 493.73000000000002 gFiber(gprobe,4,ymin) = 430.02999999999997 gFiber(gprobe,4,ypos) = -0.46489849065333338 gFiber(gprobe,5,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,5,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,5,rot) = 74.139890074799993 gFiber(gprobe,5,xcen) = 266.51 gFiber(gprobe,5,xmax) = 298.36000000000001 gFiber(gprobe,5,xmin) = 234.66 gFiber(gprobe,5,xpos) = -0.8160471470127777 gFiber(gprobe,5,ycen) = 316.84 gFiber(gprobe,5,ymax) = 348.69 gFiber(gprobe,5,ymin) = 284.98999999999995 gFiber(gprobe,5,ypos) = 0.65216627999222221 gFiber(gprobe,6,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,6,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,6,rot) = 12.894348653200012 gFiber(gprobe,6,xcen) = 272.79 gFiber(gprobe,6,xmax) = 304.64000000000004 gFiber(gprobe,6,xmin) = 240.94000000000003 gFiber(gprobe,6,xpos) = -0.30257440490627774 gFiber(gprobe,6,ycen) = 171.66 gFiber(gprobe,6,ymax) = 203.50999999999999 gFiber(gprobe,6,ymin) = 139.81 gFiber(gprobe,6,ypos) = 1.2478790480649999 gFiber(gprobe,7,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,7,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,7,rot) = 102.4924357309 gFiber(gprobe,7,xcen) = 374.99 gFiber(gprobe,7,xmax) = 406.84000000000003 gFiber(gprobe,7,xmin) = 343.13999999999999 gFiber(gprobe,7,xpos) = 0.46567636001611107 gFiber(gprobe,7,ycen) = 466.58 gFiber(gprobe,7,ymax) = 498.43000000000001 gFiber(gprobe,7,ymin) = 434.72999999999996 gFiber(gprobe,7,ypos) = 1.0781675824016665 gFiber(gprobe,8,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,8,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,8,rot) = 11.200956456700013 gFiber(gprobe,8,xcen) = 378.48 gFiber(gprobe,8,xmax) = 410.33000000000004 gFiber(gprobe,8,xmin) = 346.63 gFiber(gprobe,8,xpos) = 0.84240905107777775 gFiber(gprobe,8,ycen) = 321.98 gFiber(gprobe,8,ymax) = 353.83000000000004 gFiber(gprobe,8,ymin) = 290.13 gFiber(gprobe,8,ypos) = 0.97803934887388888 gFiber(gprobe,9,exists) = T gFiber(gprobe,9,radius) = 24.5 gFiber(gprobe,9,rot) = 146.22463179139999 gFiber(gprobe,9,xcen) = 384.06 gFiber(gprobe,9,xmax) = 415.91000000000003 gFiber(gprobe,9,xmin) = 352.20999999999998 gFiber(gprobe,9,xpos) = -0.40059264080527779 gFiber(gprobe,9,ycen) = 174.34 gFiber(gprobe,9,ymax) = 206.19 gFiber(gprobe,9,ymin) = 142.49000000000001 gFiber(gprobe,9,ypos) = 0.29987857800172218 gFiber(haMax) = 28 =========================================================================== spectro instrument block after informTCCOfGProbes was run in sop. !
