Return to spectroscopy or proceed with imaging depending on weather. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Between the moon, clouds, and dust we got some exposures on two plates. None were declared done however. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We opened right around the end of twilight, having taken some time to check and adjust the spectrograph focus in the early evening. It was significantly off. goSpecFocus showed pixel shifts of between 1.5 and 1.9 pixels ( when the tolerance for being in focus is a shift of less than .15 pixels ). The collimators had to be pistoned about 17000 counts to bring things into focus. See the spectro summary for details on which exposures had what settings. It is only supposition on my part but it seems that the general sub-par quality of spectro data this run was due to the focus being set at the start of the run in extremely cold conditions and the variation could simply be that on the warmer nights the data was just enough worse to make it unacceptable. This is likely the only problem outside of the night when the air was shut off and the slitheads were not properly latched. We had originally planned to train on ptvme failure recovery with Ron Rechenmacher on line remotely purposely causing failures and guiding our recovery efforts. However after thinking about it and talking it over with Ron, we decided it really wasn't necessary to be on the sky to do this training. At the time we were actually getting useful spectro data, so we decided not to do this training tonight, and let Ron catch up on his sleep. We did set up a time to do this next week during the day. Right now it is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon the 26th. 0240Z Cartridge 9 574: 10.9 11.1 9.3 2.7 6.4 6.0 7.4 6.6 ------------------- 17.3 17.1 16.7 9.3 No stars seen on slew. FK5 required. When ever there were clouds, we couldn't get target signal to compete with the scattered moonlight. However we did manage to get some data, though r2 only topped 2.0 in one exposure. 0641Z Cartridge 7 581: 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 15.6 11.7 20.1 19.4 ------------------- 15.6 11.7 20.1 19.4 We put on the cartridge in rather thick cloud. We acquired guide stars but the clouds shortly thickened to the point where guiding failed. We waited for the clouds to thin, however before they thinned the dust got too high to stay open. No data on this plate tonight. 0721Z We close. 1010Z Dust drops below limit, clouds are thin enough to make it worth trying again, so we open. 1031Z Cartridge 4 814: 3.4 2.8 3.2 2.6 Guide stars on slew. Thin clouds at the start got progressively thicker with time. Only the first science exposure had sufficient signal. 1155Z We close for the night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3061 0024Z 0156Z 100 O -105.34 -82.21 45 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 13961, plate 574 ------- collimator positions pixel shift sp1 sp2 r1 r2 b1 b2 00:57 13961 3.0 arc -14000, -11000 -1.55 -0.90 1.81 1.72 00:59 13962 3.0 arc -14000, -11000 01:21 13963 3.0 arc -14000, -11000 01:24 13964 2.0 arc -14000, -11000 01:35 13965 3.0 arc 400, -1000 -0.22 -0.53 0.49 0.79 01:37 13966 3.0 arc 400, -1000 01:45 13967 3.0 arc 2400, 3800 01:47 13968 3.0 arc 2400, 3800 -0.05 -0.01 0.34 0.34 01:56 13969 3.0 arc 3400, 4800 01:59 13970 3.0 arc 3400, 4800 -0.09 -0.14 0.37 0.42 final collimator positions 4400, 5800 ----- sequence 13971, plate -9999 ------- 02:09 13971 0.0 bias ----- sequence 13972, plate 574 ------- 10.9 11.1 9.3 2.7 03:07 13972 10.0 flat 6.4 6.0 7.4 6.6 03:09 13973 2.0 arc --------------------- 03:42 13974 1802.0 target 17.3 17.1 16.7 9.3 04:10 13975 1523.0 target 04:42 13976 1800.0 target 05:15 13977 1800.0 target 05:52 13978 1800.0 target 06:00 13979 240.0 smear 06:19 13980 889.0 target 06:23 13981 10.0 flat 06:25 13982 2.0 arc ----- sequence 13983, plate 814 ------- 3.4 2.8 3.2 2.6 10:43 13983 10.0 flat 10:45 13984 2.0 arc 11:08 13985 1201.0 target 11:31 13986 1202.0 target 11:42 13987 487.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0323Z 9 574 49.89 0.0049 50.34 0.0030 220.11 0.0063 1.000200 0539Z 9 574 -9.88 0.0049 60.99 0.0030 171.66 0.0063 1.000160 1048Z 4 814 156.65 0.0025 76.33 0.0031 -28.16 -0.0272 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- endNight rejoiced Goes: JL5170 Stays: JL5171 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:23 9 574 1.00020 -1974 -554 -100 50 50.4 4.3 10 128 - 2.6 22:39 9 574 1.00016 -1579 -258 -100 -10 61.0 3.5 15 149 - 1.7 03:48 4 814 1.00000 0 1022 -100 157 76.4 2.3 11 178 - 1.7 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 17:49 43 20 11 80 (E) 473 - Cirrus Whisps 18:25 38 21 8 91 (E) 814 - Cirrus Whisps 18:57 40 7 14 142 (SE) 605 - Cirrus Whisps 19:28 41 1 12 143 (SE) 499 - Cirrus Whisps 19:59 39 1 13 157 (SSE) 469 - Cirrus 20:30 40 -2 12 133 (SE) 337 - Cirrus 21:02 39 -3 11 136 (SE) 284 - Cirrus 21:34 37 -2 8 127 (SE) 322 - Mostly Clear 22:04 38 -1 15 149 (SSE) 303 - Cirrus Whisps 22:35 38 5 14 143 (SE) 1701 - Thin Cirrus 23:07 37 7 13 143 (SE) 949 - Partly Cloudy 23:38 38 8 16 160 (SSE) 1263 - Thick Cirrus 00:09 39 8 15 173 (S) 1532 - Thick Cirrus 00:40 38 9 15 174 (S) 2038 - Thick Cirrus 01:10 36 12 15 168 (SSE) 1197 - Mostly Cloudy 01:40 35 13 9 172 (S) 1355 - Partly Cloudy 02:10 35 13 5 164 (SSE) 1664 - Mostly Cloudy 02:40 35 14 13 174 (S) 1392 - Mostly Cloudy 03:11 35 14 8 178 (S) 961 - Mostly Clear 03:41 35 15 9 179 (S) 1252 - Partly Cloudy 04:13 35 15 11 182 (S) 878 - Cirrus 04:44 38 15 14 177 (S) 671 - Thick Cirrus 05:14 38 16 18 196 (SSW) 521 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 0140Z Doors open, Fans on 0225Z Enclosure off 0721Z Enclosure on, Fans off 1015Z Enclosure off, Fans on 1155Z Enclosure on, Fans off Stowed at 30 deg alt, cartridge 4 installed.
