Seeing never got good enough for imaging, so we cranked on spectroscopy, finishing 5 plates and getting exposures on two others. Done: 1 605, 2 792, 3 877, 5 878, 6 507 ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We opened about half an hour after twilight ended due to clouds ( coming to the new found realization clouds can affect the timing of twilight :). Cross-sections of spectro exposures are not showing any odd variation in focus. So whatever problem David saw from a week or so ago is not happening tonight. 0325Z Cartridge 3 877: 20.8 25.3 15.1 20.5 Stars seen on slew. Cross-sections of spectro exposures are not showing any odd variation in focus. So whatever problem David saw from a week or so ago is not happening tonight. 0514Z Cartridge 6 507: 17.6 19.2 16.4 17.4 No stars on slew. FK5 required. Rather large azimuth offset needed ( ~ 23 arcseconds ) There were no fiducial errors on the slew to field. 0635Z Cartridge 7 581: 3.1 2.6 6.0 5.5 12.5 9.1 14.1 13.9 ------------------- 15.6 11.7 20.1 19.4 Guide stars on slew. With 9.1 as the lowest signal and getting 5s and 6s on the previous plate, we took a single 15 minute exposure. Since we already had a smear and postCalibs were not required, we changed to the next cartridge before SoS was back with the results. It wasn't enough!! 2.6 was the lowest. Sigh. It will have to be observed again unless someone wants to look at the results to see if there is something besides a lack of signal giving r1 such anomalous results compared to the rest of the chips ( they are all well over the minimum ). 0715Z Cartridge 5 878: 19.3 15.5 23.4 23.7 Guide stars on slew. Seeing degraded substantially during the third exposure ( sometimes going over 3 arcseconds ) such that even increasing the exposure to 20 minutes was not enough. A fourth exposure was needed. 0858Z Cartridge 1 605: 15.2 15.3 18.1 17.6 Guide stars on slew. Three and out on this one. 1025Z Cartridge 2 792: 17.2 15.7 20.2 16.9 5.1 4.8 5.7 4.8 -------------------- 22.3 20.5 25.7 21.7 Guide stars on slew. With the exposure from last night, we only needed two to finish it. For some reason SoS didn't want to reduce the second science exposure for r1. There were no error messages, just no measurement. All the other chips had very high signal. After it went on and started reducing the next plate, leaving this one undone, I did an sos_redo for 792. It reduced everything this time. 1131Z Cartridge 4 813: 6.7 6.0 6.7 5.2 Guide stars on slew. Got one science exposure before twilight got too bright. 1215Z Telescope put away for the night. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 00:33 13894 0.0 bias ----- sequence 13895, plate 877 ------- 20.8 25.3 15.1 20.5 03:39 13895 10.0 flat 03:41 13896 2.0 arc 04:04 13897 900.0 target 04:22 13898 900.0 target 04:40 13899 900.0 target 04:57 13900 900.0 target 05:04 13901 240.0 smear 05:07 13902 10.0 flat 05:09 13903 2.0 arc ----- sequence 13904, plate 507 ------- 17.6 19.2 16.4 17.4 05:28 13904 10.0 flat 05:30 13905 2.0 arc 05:47 13906 901.0 target 06:05 13907 900.0 target 06:23 13908 901.0 target 06:29 13909 240.0 smear ----- sequence 13910, plate 581 ------- 3.1 2.6 6.0 5.5 06:48 13910 10.0 flat 12.5 9.1 14.1 13.9 (52352) 06:50 13911 2.0 arc --------------------------- 07:08 13912 901.0 target 15.6 11.7 20.1 19.4 ----- sequence 13913, plate 878 ------- 19.3 15.5 23.4 23.7 07:23 13913 10.0 flat 07:25 13914 2.0 arc 07:43 13915 901.0 target 08:01 13916 901.0 target 08:23 13917 1201.0 target 08:30 13918 240.0 smear 08:47 13919 901.0 target 08:50 13920 10.0 flat 08:52 13921 2.0 arc ----- sequence 13922, plate 605 ------- 15.2 15.3 18.1 17.6 09:10 13922 3.0 target 09:13 13923 10.0 flat 09:15 13924 2.0 arc 09:33 13925 901.0 target 09:51 13926 901.0 target 10:12 13927 1102.0 target 10:18 13928 240.0 smear ----- sequence 13929, plate 792 ------- 17.2 15.7 20.2 16.9 10:36 13929 10.0 flat 5.1 4.8 5.7 4.8 ( 52352 ) 10:38 13930 2.0 arc ------------------- 11:02 13931 901.0 target 22.3 20.5 25.7 21.7 11:19 13932 900.0 target 11:26 13933 240.0 smear ----- sequence 13934, plate 813 ------- 6.7 6.0 6.7 5.2 11:40 13934 10.0 flat 11:42 13935 2.0 arc 12:00 13936 901.0 target 12:06 13937 240.0 smear ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0347Z 3 877 134.77 0.0021 57.28 0.0009 -70.97 -0.0157 1.000160 0538Z 6 507 12.55 0.0064 58.77 0.0018 190.49 -0.0157 1.000060 0654Z 7 581 -17.64 0.0054 60.75 0.0011 165.14 -0.0309 0.999910 0915Z 1 605 180.51 -0.0001 60.07 0.0016 1.02 -0.0108 0.999810 1032Z 2 792 187.22 -0.0001 66.40 0.0018 10.96 -0.0158 0.999950 1145Z 4 813 199.29 -0.0015 74.71 0.0027 24.02 -0.0289 0.999950 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- endNight rejoiced appropriately Goes: JL5153 Stays: JL5154 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:47 3 877 1.00016 -1579 -173 -25 135 57.3 0.6 8 7 - 2.3 04:50 3 877 1.00016 -1579 -194 -25 145 66.0 0.1 3 280 - 1.9 05:39 6 507 1.00006 -591 640 -25 12 58.8 -1.0 5 345 - 1.8 06:55 7 581 0.99991 888 1861 -25 -18 60.7 0.1 12 16 - 2.0 07:39 5 878 1.00006 -591 621 -25 210 67.3 0.1 8 13 - 2.0 08:02 5 878 1.00006 -591 626 -25 216 64.6 -0.1 15 16 - 2.2 09:16 1 605 0.99981 1875 2680 -25 181 60.1 1.1 11 1 - 2.3 10:58 2 792 0.99995 493 1524 -25 196 65.3 -0.3 17 65 - 1.7 11:45 4 813 0.99995 493 1508 -25 199 74.7 -0.6 21 61 - 1.7 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:02 37 15 2 316 (NW) 851 - Mostly Cloudy 00:32 36 14 4 271 (W) 1010 - Mostly Cloudy 01:02 34 14 8 310 (NW) 945 - Mostly Cloudy 01:35 34 13 3 285 (WNW) 921 - Cloudy 02:07 33 14 6 0 (N) 895 - Mostly Cloudy 02:40 33 14 5 9 (N) 916 - Partly Cloudy 03:11 33 14 10 310 (NW) 953 - Mostly Clear 03:42 33 15 4 334 (NNW) 920 - Moslty Clear 04:12 32 15 6 303 (WNW) 961 - Clear 04:43 32 16 9 324 (NW) 818 - Clear 05:13 30 16 9 337 (NNW) 893 - Clear 05:44 30 17 0 133 (SE) 1020 - Clear 06:16 30 17 0 30 (NNE) 934 - Clear 06:49 32 18 5 342 (NNW) 865 - Clear 07:20 32 17 9 17 (NNE) 847 - Clear 07:52 31 8 11 2 (N) 683 - Clear 08:26 33 2 14 24 (NNE) 590 - Clear 08:58 34 -1 15 23 (NNE) 435 - Clear 09:28 34 -1 9 4 (N) 546 - Clear 09:58 31 5 11 58 (ENE) 494 - Clear 10:29 31 11 20 65 (ENE) 726 - Clear 10:59 31 11 14 69 (ENE) 773 - Clear 11:31 31 11 18 46 (NE) 716 - Clear 12:03 31 10 22 71 (ENE) 828 - Clear 12:35 31 4 20 70 (ENE) 698 - Clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 2340Z Doors open, Fans on 0305Z Enclosure off 1215Z Enclosure on, Fans off.
