Verified pointing for plate 800, star HD19445. Some data for plate 804 obtained. Took a long imager bias. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- We did a long imager bias during afternoon checkout/setup as requested by JEG. See the imaging section of the log for details. The sky was mostly overcast at sunset and since the early night plates required photometric conditions, we decided to verify the pointing for the SDSS primary standard stars on the stellar template plates as per instructions. We checked plate 800 (cartridge 1) and the standard star appeared right in the middle of fiber 11 using the offsets from the previous evening. The offsets for this plate/star are given below. Plate 800, Star HD19445 ------------------------ Offsets to get star in center of fiber 11: SOPGUI: stickyOffsets 43.0172 28.61318697816548 83.331563499184341 28.61318697816548 83.331563499184341 0.0, 0.0, 0.000000 telrun sez: 0 0 I CalibOff = 0.004784, 0.000000, 4517347092.13000, 0.001069, 0.000000, 4517347092.13000, -0.007518, 0.000000, 451734 7092.13000 Note that these offsets are exactly the same as last night's offsets for plate 519. ------------------------ After this, one of the faint galaxy plates (804) was available for observation. Guide stars showed up immediately for this plate and we obtained 2 usable exposures (although the second exposure is only good in b1 and b2) before the clouds thickened and we closed. Two hours later the clouds thinned and we got back on the sky with plate 774 (cartridge 7). We found the FK5 star but could not find the guide stars. We cleared the offsets obtained from the FK5 star and went to the field again. This time we found guide stars but the guider would not guide. Although it continued taking exposures, the guider would not issue any corrections to the position and would not provide a scale correction either. We stopped the guider and reissued the loadCartridge command but this did not help. Steph restarted her SOP session but this did not solve the problem either. We changed cartridges and were ready to try cartridge 8 (plate 571) but the clouds came in again before we could obtain guide stars and we closed again. Thus, we do not know if the guider problem was due to the cartridge/plate or the guider. We also attempted to do darks on the PT tonight as requested by JEG. However, the goStare -dark command did not work properly. Regardless of the exposure time used, the goStare -dark command read the chip out as if it were doing a bias. Pete and Steph attempted a work around by reading the chip out at timed intervals but this may be too crude for what is needed. These experimental exposures are included in the PT log and the data are available if anyone is interested in having a look. A PR (3069) was filed on the goStare -dark command. We had another axisdtime error: AxisDTime:rot (-1.1: Jan 10 00:10:56 MST) Steve Kent corrected the tccMon problem and Scot installed a new version (v1_8). We had no problems with secondary actuator A but the temperature remained above freezing all night. All 7 tapes were shipped because the imager tapes contain the long bias. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Stripe Flavor Lambda Last Begin End Frame Comments ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2865 100 O bias 162.33 -135.31 283 doghouse This was the long bias requested by JEG. ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot --------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 12575, plate -9999 ------- 23:53 12575 0.0 bias 00:19 12576 0.0 bias ----- sequence 12577, plate 804 ------- 10.4 2.8 8.5 2.8 03:07 12577 10.0 flat 03:09 12578 2.0 arc 03:44 12579 1800.0 target 04:07 12580 1176.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument getclock Az Alt Rot Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:28 3 804 1010633293 0.005035 0.001196 -0.000179 1.000040 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL4876-4881, 4888 Stays: JL4882-4887, 4889 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20:27 3 804 1.00004 -394 734 -100 -11 56.8 3.7 14 259 - 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 16:18 40 15 14 283 (WNW) 192 - mcl 16:50 39 15 7 276 (W) 249 - mcl 17:22 39 15 15 289 (WNW) 291 - mcl 17:53 39 15 14 281 (W) 293 - mcl 18:23 40 14 11 276 (W) 272 - mcl 18:53 39 14 15 273 (W) 305 - mcl 19:23 40 13 14 263 (W) 250 - mcl 20:26 38 13 12 240 (WSW) 322 - mcl 20:58 39 12 12 254 (WSW) 226 - mcl 21:31 38 12 17 269 (W) 195 - mcl 22:03 38 12 13 263 (W) 176 - mcl 22:36 38 11 9 260 (W) 236 - mcl 23:08 38 12 17 264 (W) 255 - mcl 23:40 37 12 17 271 (W) 247 - mcl 00:12 37 12 17 271 (W) 275 - mcl 00:44 37 12 12 303 (WNW) 272 - mcl 01:16 37 12 19 286 (WNW) 235 - mcl 01:46 37 12 13 273 (W) 279 - tcl 02:16 37 12 11 264 (W) 283 - tcl 02:47 37 12 7 264 (W) 264 - tcl 03:17 36 12 14 290 (WNW) 308 - tcl 03:50 35 13 11 304 (NW) 282 - tcl 04:22 35 13 8 277 (W) 355 - tcl 04:54 35 13 3 259 (W) 303 - mcl [pmt]cl = partly, mostly, totally cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 22:45 Doors open, fans on. 01:00 Enclosure off. 04:45 Enclosure on, doors mostly closed (clouds). 06:45 Enclosure off, doors open. 08:30 Enclosure on, doors mostly closed (clouds). 11:00 Doors closed, fans off.
