Yes, this is an option that is present. It hasn't really been shaken formally at the mountain, but ran well when I tested it remotely during shutdown. > > In the shakedown plan, Eric said he would implement an automatic > cleanupMurmur in a cron job or endNight. Did this happen? If so, do we > no longer run cleanupMurmur ourselves? Also, will the cron job tell us if > it fails? This did not happen for the following reason: if it were run by a cron there would be a good possibility that someone doing work when the cron job "went off" might be using a murmur log, and not realize that whatever processes was using it (startMurmur, etc.) needed to be restarted to keep getting it. Imaging if someone were checking the fiducials when the cron job restarted murmur. It would appear that no fiducials were getting crossed (as the new entries would be going to the new murmur log) and nothing suspicious from the fiducializers end (grepping for tlatch would hide the "end of murmur log" message.) If cleanupMurmur is something done from a command line by an observer, others should be in sufficient communication with the observers for this not to happen. This possibility of the murmur log being pulled out from under something still being used that needs it bugs me, and Scot as well. We decided to hold off on implementing the cron job unless someone objects strenuously to the current situation. At present, it is much less painful to run from the commandline, as there is no longer any need to do anything other than just type the command. -Eric -- Eric H.
