Support: Craig Loomis (APO). Visitors: Jim Gunn (Princeton U), Mike Carr (Washington U), Bill Boroski (FNAL), Dean Hoffer (FNAL). We note that Anders Jorgensen (LANL) arrived on his final PT obsering run before the APO observers take over the PT full time. Great cookies! OBSERVING PLAN ============== Science. Imaging as priority before moonrise, then spectroscopy. OBSERVING SUMMARY ================= Variable cloud, plus time lost to software problems. Two plates finished. Some further shakedown items completed. OBSERVERS' LOG ============== We are running with iop test version v3_50_3, which implements a few residual fixes from the last two days shakedown. If this makes it through the night, we will declare it current. We also declared MCP v5_2_1 to be current. We tested the offsetRotator wrapper for tcc 'offset calib' which worked (note this command takes offsets in decimal degrees!). The watcher server process on sdsshost got stuck in a operating system kernel loop about 14:30 MST. Craig Loomis worked hard on trying to fix it without having to reboot sdsshost, but was stumped. We rebooted sdsshost, and got all the other systems talking again by abouyt 18:00. TPM came up with slow updates on its displays. We fixed this by resetting the TPM PMSS MUX update period from 0.01 sec to 0.1 sec. This all occured before sunset, and did not lose us science time. French will need to know that while slewing the telescope using tcc during opening procedures, watcher reported a windscreen touch (at 20:17:55 MST). The murmur log reported that the alt amp aborted 1 second earlier (bad alt state ABORT_EVENT: ID_ERROR_LIMIT, at 20:17:54). We are a little confused here, as we did not notice any unexpected events while slewing, so maybe this happened just as the telescope was stopping? We later saw 'dsc_E_trcErr Windscreen touched in azimuth: CCW' at 04:03:20, during a slew to instrument change, without causing an abort. Those aside, we are pleased to report that we did not see a repeat of last night's multiple widnscreen touches. Clouds from before sunset, so spectroscopy. Plate 602, cartridge 2. Done in 4 exposures (4204 seconds). We did not find stars on first gotoField, but the cartridge was loaded with Started; Cmd='offset rotator -0.0002354' 992329263.656 0 0 I Modu="exe_BrdTelPos"; Text="287050 packets sent successfully" 992329266.437 0 0 F Modu="prt_Read"; Text="read timed out on port LTA19:" 992329268.624 0 0 F Modu="prt_ReadMatch"; Text="bad reply"; Expected="ROT +MOVE -0.0002354 0.0000000"; Received=" " 992329268.723 0 0 F Modu="axe_o_Move"; Text="command failed for ALT, ROT" 992329268.825 0 0 F Modu="axe_i_SchMove"; Text="awakened too late, adjust Tune parameters (or obj.pvtEndTime defective)" 992329269.104 0 0 I AxisStop="TTT" 992329269.202 0 5 F Text="move failed; axes halted" 992329269.302 0 5 I TAI= 4499046101.14 The (red herring) traceback from the startGuider process was: Couldn't open udp socket 30410 : Address already in use while executing "dp_connect -udp $iopUdpPort" invoked from within "set addressList [dp_connect -udp $iopUdpPort]..."
