Neilsen, Jr." Subject: 2.5m obslog 20010511 (MJD 52041) APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday May 11, 2001 (MJD 52041) OBSERVING TEAM: =============== Atsuko Nitta Kleinman (APO) Eric Neilsen (FNAL) Scot Kleinman (APO) VISITORS: ========= THE PLAN: ========= Shakedown, pointing model the top priority. SYNOPSIS: ========= Cloudy, windy, occasionally rainy. Opened once, closed immediately. GENERAL COMMENTS (see Problems below for details): ================================================== The TPM now reports the instrument in English, as opposed to the bit patterns presented in v2_3_4. We also note that, with the engineering camera on, watchers systems status display shows the instrument ID as being 10, where it was 0 in previous versions. A little after 3:30, the weather has calmed down enough that we can open. As soon as we open, the wind goes back over the limit, and we close again. We note that the MCP is painfully sluggish during opening and closing, only updating every 10 seconds or so. This makes it difficult to move the telescope around and see what's going on. When we are up in the control room, with the telescope stopped, the MCP is not nearly as sluggish. French wrote up a very nice bright time engineering work summary, and gave us a paper copy because he was having email problems. We will not be writing a shakedown summary until after we get a chance to do some shaking.
